"We used to live near Oundle 25 years ago, and were looking around to find a restaurant where we could meet friends just before the Christmas break who were travelling from Northampton. When we arrived we were shown to our table, and from the almost hostile dismissive 'welcome should have walked out there and then. In short the service was incredibly slow and poor, I ordered the blade of beef on horseradish mash with red cabbage. When it arrived I thought they had forgotten to place the beef, but on investigation I found some. It was so small I thought I had become a vegetarian without asking! My wife 's was just the same. The mash was tepid, and hardly flavoursome. In all disgraceful. Our friends meal was similarly poor. Our friend ordered the cheese board. I have never seen such a rediculously small amount of chees and heavily over priced. I could go on but hope you have got the message........avoid like the plague unless you are happy to get totally ripped off for a very poor meal. To add insult to injury they even added a service charge into the bill. Honestly i have had far better meals in both quality and quantity in my mother 's care home."

Thankyou to the chef who went the extra mile to prepare me a meal that avoided all off my numerous food intolerances during my stay at the hotel last weekend. I will be back!!!!

Beautiful historic hotel, clean and with generally good service polite staff. The reason I’ve given only 3 stars is the meagre food portions served the fact I had finished my meal before my wife’s had arrived.

Really lovely old coaching inn with masses of interesting history. Every member of staff from housekeeping to the restaurant and reception were so nice. Very comfortable bedroom and seating areas downstairs. Meals were good. If the price is right we’ll definitely return

This hotel dates from 1626 I recall and its appeal is just that. Old and charming this is quite a grand hotel, and sits proudly in the middle of Oundle. Plenty of parking to the rear of the hotel, with good access back I to the hotel. I had a room located in an annexe and it was very nicely appointed. Breakfast was excellent in the morning.

Terrible food. Hardly any selection. £25 for a chicken burger? I don't think so. There's more to Vegan life than Linda McCartney sausages, £16 for the vegan meal sausage mash!! also would have been nice if they were cooked properly. Waiting staff failed to offer us information on the food had to get management involved. Wont be coming back to this place. Breakfast was not cooked properly and I was ill afterwards.

We hadn't been to the Talbot for many years, so were pleasantly surprised at the changes they have made. We had a table overlooking the small garden area, which was very nice. We both had steak, which came with a good variety of accompaniments, including a lovely coleslaw. The staff were polite. The downside is that we were there for an hour and a half for a one course meal. We did look at the dessert menu, but as we had to be somewhere else, we decided nothing was tempting enough for another long wait. Speisekarte ansehen

We were staying at the hotel so decided to eat in. It is a nice room with a wonderful troupe l’oeil on the wall. It was quite busy with lots of business guys who were staying at the hotel, so there was a nice atmosphere. The food is solid 3 star hotel affair perfect acceptable but not top class! My wife liked her pear starter and trout main. My main of a chicken pie was slightly tasteless but all sorted by adding a slug of white wine! My only suggestion is that the kitchen stick to the description my starter of smoked mackerel pate was delicious and came with Melba toast, except it didn’t. It was served with 4 nachos. There’s no bread in nachos! I question it and was fobbed off with “I can b...

I’ve been frequenting the Talbot for over 12 years and the building is stunning. The location is beautiful but there are more flaws than positives of late. Staffing levels have fallen so poorly they cannot offer the service the destination requires. Went for Sunday lunch with friends yesterday. Was told there would be a 45 min wait as we had not booked, we could have a couple of drinks first, no problem. The actual wait was over 2 hours whilst the place wasn’t that busy. When the food actually arrived, my beef was so tough. It’s snapped in half and that’s not exaggeration. The owners either have to sell up or invest some money in staff numbers and training. This is the first time I’ve ever b...

"this was my birthday contract with the children (in their 40's go to lunch big situation, but the management is missing in action. we smiled at the typos. the menu, but it turned out to be a symptom of deficiency...view to detail. very friendly (but quite inexperienced waiting staff. great location and a very warm welcome. water came pretty fast. the starters were pretty good (3 ham hock croquettes and a panko chicken. the mains were another thing. two fish and chips very nice, good portions and well presented. burger was terrible. here is the menu description 6oz coarsely ground beef burger, candied speck, soft bevel, cheddar cheese, salattomate . the reality was a burger in a bungalow with a piece soggy salat and maybe some cheese. no speck, no tomats, no wobble so £18 for an average qualitysburger and they have to pay extra for riders! To conclude that there was at least 5 10 minutes after the other net, so we sat just wait and had to ask the waitress when it came. description • crispy confit ente bein, herby buttermilk waffel, fried due egg with maple senf dressing the reality that was inspected and watery it looked out and tasted as if it were boiled to death. the herby buttermilk waffel was chewing and certainly in a blind taste test I would swear that there is no more crumble in. to cover, it was cold. the sniffing was nicely spread in the waffles that gave them a taste. we also ordered the knochenmark from the menu. No one had said to the poor waitress that they should have been ordered to tell the diners what was going on and no. the menu. when we complained, the manager had not even come the courtesy and see us they left the poor junior waiterin to explain that the speck had not come with the delivery to the last day (one ever heard that he jumps out of the super market to buy some? and there was no excuse for the missing tomats, very badly sorry for us, so on. desserts the brownie was very nice, but the eton mess was a catastrophe. it came in a small delicate glass. in the ground a buckling of whipped cream with some slabs of stone hard meringue and some earthy with stems overfilled with some earthberry syrup. after bending the spoon. we decided to solve it by hand. I was afraid that I would break a tooth on the notched position that really needed to be served with a hammer. the only way to eat the earthy was to pick them up from the body, to bite and to eat to which time our hands were covered in sauce. on the plus side, they drew the price of the burger and Eton fair and 25% of the duck, as we had 3 glasses of wine and a koks, the bill was still over £120 without drinking money. to say that by my choice of restaurants, I would be embarrassing a rough understatement."
