"I spent a lovely month living in Oaksey. I found the Wheatsheaf on day one and visited once or twice a week for the duration of my stay. By the second visit, at which I enjoyed my first meal, my dogs and I were made to feel like locals. Carol, Ian and their team are so warm and friendly. My visit on 20th October was to meet friends for dinner. I was a little late and by the time I 'd got there, my friends were deep in conversation with Carol. I walked in and was welcomed by an old friend, which was wonderful. I didn 't get the young woman 's name, but she remembered some of the stuff I 'd wittered on about in my previous visit and asked me how things had gone. I spent a lot of time on my own in Oaksey, working, but moments like this made me feel recognised . And it felt authentic; these guys genuinely like people! The food here is delicious, with a good range of options to choose from. One of my 20th October friends is a pretty severe coeliac and she was able to enjoy a dish that met her dietary needs. Some key indicators for me of good cooking were in evidence here: pasta is al dente, vegetables (notably broccoli) has a crunch and isn 't soggy. The meals themselves take a little while to come, which is suggestive of things being cooked fresh rather than being re-generated. I 'd add that they seem to keep the beer well here. I like a pint of cask ale if I can get it and I had nothing but joyful flavours from all the pints I enjoyed. It 's worth making a trip here if you 're in the area and looking for an intimate, friendly pub-based meal."

I’ve eaten at most of the pubs in the area and this Sunday Roast is the best I’ve eaten! The beef is cooked to perfection. (If you’re vegan or vegetarian, they do have some cracking alternatives too!

Had a lovely catch up with an old friend at this fabulous country pub. Really friendly staff , great food and well priced throughout. The Tim Taylor is as good as you’ll find anywhere. Great to find a locals pub which is as inviting to visitors as their usual guests. Will be back.

Really friendly welcome when we arrived. Great atmosphere and the food was exceptional. Nice selection of starters and puddings. We all opted for Sunday Dinner, two had beef and two turkey. Good selection of vegetables and plenty of meat. Meals were really hot and very enjoyable. Would certainly visit again. Speisekarte ansehen

The Wheatsheaf at Oaksey opened again on Thursday under new management. Went round for Sunday lunch, choice of lamb, beef, pork or chicken. We went for the lamb….very good sized portions! Followed up by homemade apple crumble and custard (delicious) and a chocolate brownie. Recommended for food and friendly attentive service!

It’s re opened under new management and it’s been worth the wait! The food is great everything from a cheeky bowl of chips to a Sunday lunch or fine steak is available. Fantastic vegetarian food and they are very accommodating on allergies and preferences. Thursday is steak night and there’s a quiz and bingo on a Sunday evening. A great vibe, warm welcome, and a proper village pub again. Hurrah!

We had dinner tonight here, we are based not too far away and so glad it’s reopened. The new owners have made it feel like a really friendly local pub! It’s great to also have a menu with more than just the traditional Cotswolds offering. We had the jerk pork and brown stew chicken both were really really delicious. Being Londers getting Caribbean food in the countryside is an absolute winner. Can’t wait to go back! Great service, brilliant quality produce and a lovely atmosphere. Speisekarte ansehen

Went for a meal with friends, their pie was cold, the fish cakes inedible, to the point where my friend couldn’t even finish her meal. I had the salmon with mash potato for £18.95 and what I received was the tiniest bit of tail end fish, I mean it was smaller than the palm of my hand, and my mash potato was non exist as they bought out sautéed potatoes which were greasy and quite frankly gross. The food was warm ish. No one even came over to check if we were happy with it, so couldn’t even query it with staff and they aren’t even busy. Not happy over priced, underfed and completely dissatisfied DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. I could have bought my entire meal from Iceland for half the **** price....

We were a group of friends staying at Lower Mill Estate and wanted a walk to a local pub instead of using onsite restaurant. We had been advised, on phone , twice , that it was walkable. We were all fit and healthy, so gave a it a go. We ended up walking for an hour , on dark country roads with no footpath and felt in danger of our lives. We arrived at pub ready for a warm meal and had pre ordered food from a menu we were sent which in no way reflects one on website. I had garlic mushrooms, four fried mushrooms, mayo and shredded iceberg covered in some kind of dressing. Others had bread an olives, white pitta bread and tinned olives. The chicken burger was like something served in school can...

"We stayed here ten years ago and thought it was wonderful and worth every penny. We were so excited to return, but really Disapointed. The grounds are lovely and we were pleased with our room. The children loved the outdoor space and the pool What really let us down was the food and service. There was no luxury here. The family dining choices were poor. The children's meal was bad one had fish gougons and sweet potato fries which were very salty. The other two had pizza, the small was served as half a pizza, the large was a conventional round shape. Both were shop bought bases (cardboard) with grated Cheddar on the top. Something I would not feed them at home let alone expect in a supposedly high end dining. My husband's steak was chewy. My main, whole plaice with creamed potatoes, the potato was served in a ceramic dish and it was cold. It was taken away and then took ten minutes to return by which point I had eaten the fish. The food was incredibly expensive considering how poor the offerings were. The next day we ate a very late lunch in Bath so we would not have to eat at the hotel. The breakfast buffet area had some nice items but was really understocked and allowed to run to empty. The staff functioned but not at a steady rate, we found the service slow and the staff disinterested. Such a contrast to our previous visit. The person in charge we found sullen and felt as if our presence was an inconvenience. When we walked through to the dining areas we would hop out of the staff'so way for fear of being bulldozed. When we left the receptionist was polite but did not ask if we enjoyed our stay. A week later I had an email to complete a survey and nobody got in touch despite the same feedback as given here. Very dispointing. Lovely room and surroundings but poor food and poor attitude from staff. Last year we stayed in a hotel that cost 65% less than Wooley Grange and had a much better experience."
