"We were recommended this pub by others and have been meaning to go for a while. On arrival the I feel the entrance needed a tidy up as first impressions weren’t that good. Inside however it was quaint and appealing. The arms of the chairs...all kept coming off when you tried to pull your chairs up to the table so definitely needs addressing. When I went to the toilet i felt it was a Shame too as it felt scruffy and the fire door inside the toilet was very dirty and needed a good paint as it made it feel generally untidy and unkempt. It’s a shame as it’s quite an attractive pub inside with the fairy lights on the ceiling. Food was ok but nothing special. The food comes out on slate plates, not on proper plates and chips etc in little baskets. I found mine very difficult to eat trying to lean over things to get to food. I would usually tip it out onto the plate but couldn’t as there was nothing to stop it going on the floor. Looked nice to serve but not practical especially for the kids. When we got there we were told they would do the kids chicken or fish Goujons or make kids portions from things on the menu. My rating is about the cost in general and imparticular the childrens food. I was not told before any costs as there was no official childrens menu. When the bill came I got charged £9.50 for each childrens main course for a 5 8 year old !! EXTORTIONATE, had I been told this before ordering I would not have stayed and gone elsewhere. So for one adult main course and two children’s meals and two children’s ice-creams a glass of Prosecco and some Coca colas it came to £60 !!!! I get two three course meals in most places we go with childrens meal deals for just over half the cost of one of their children’s meals. For a country pub, out the way I would think they need to get people back, unless business is that good they don’t need more customers. I would definately not be going back it’s far too expensive for standard pub food and there are some really nice pubs round here a lot more reasonable prices. If you are a family you need a mortgage to take your kids to eat there !!! Very very disappointing"

A good selection of dishes would definitely recommend the prawn pork bites starter, so tasty. If you are ever nearby, pop in for sure!

Lovely atmosphere, Really enjoyed the food. Just need hot plates for hot food. Seafood needs to be hot or cold not in between. Would recommend and will be visiting again.

we are regular customers of the wheel and would evaluate both the eating and the atmosphere as excellent. the manager takes us from home personally in his people carrier, so we can all enjoy a drink.

This place has been up and down over the last few years, but the sunday lunches are excellent. Spent a few quid on changing the inside and its warm welcoming and the food is really excellent now. Not cheap, but enjoy every time we go....Could do with better wines but overall superb.

I have visited the wheel quite a few times over the years but nothing prepared me for my visit yesterday. £8 for a starter and not a main available under £13. Don’t get me wrong, the food is good but it’s not that good or...different from many other pubs in the area. £15 for fish and chips is just greedy. Good pub but this latest move takes the **** to be perfectly honest.

convened for Sunday dinner in this lively rural location. the series came from a menu and not from the traditional Sunday roast, although this was also available. we had all sunday roasts, four cattle, a pig and a chicken. the food was well cooked and the portions were abundant. service was fast and pleasant. beer from recognizable breweries were well kept and delicious. the parking lot is around the back of the pub, although most seemed to park on the road

We haven't visited The Wheel for some years, but were walking in the area and decided to go for lunch. Saturday lunchtime, and there were only two other customers who were just finishing their meal when we arrived. Our order took a very long time...to arrive, despite the lack of other diners, and whilst the food was fine, it was expensive for what you would expect to pay in such a grubby pub. There was a layer of dust, stained tables, floor that hadn't been thoroughly cleaned in a long time, although it was reassuring to hear that the kitchen had had a makeover in the last week and was therefore likely to be clean, We were recce-ing this for a future visit with a group of walkers, but decide...
