"Simply perfect. My husband and I went for a meal for our wedding anniversary last night, the experience was great from start to finish. We were welcomed into the restaurant and asked if we wanted drinks at the bar or to go to our table. We'd sat in the sunshine for drinks beforehand so went to our table. The lady serving us was very attentive and friendly. We chose a bottle of the Italian House Red wine which was very nice. We both had mussels in white wine sauce to start. The mussels were cooked beautifully and the sauce complimented them so well, soaking it up with some fresh bread was delicious! We both had steaks for main course, mine with dolce latte and wrapped in parma ham and my husband had the surf and turf. Both steaks were cooked just how we liked and you could slice through them like butter. We were both blown away with the quality of the food and the attentiveness of the serving staff. We will definitely be returning and recommending La Perla to our friends and family."

"Attended without a reservation and seated straight away, this place is a real gem. The staff/ owner are all very professional and polite. Fantastic range of Draught lager on offer, a very extensive menu with dishes that differ to all other typical restaurants. We ordered several items off the menu including starters. We were all very impressed by the quality of the food. The taste and texture was perfect. We will definitely return."

"We were visiting Bottesford from the Southeast, hoped the previous review about cooking from a book was slightly harsh and decided to give the India Spice a go possibly the worst ‘curry’ I have ever tasted. Or rather, not tasted that is the problem, the food is not reminiscent of any Indian curry I have ever eaten. It’s more akin to a packet of Uncle Ben’s rice with some sort of bland sauce covering it. I have genuinely made better curries myself. This restaurant makes the supermarket’s own brand curry offerings look 5 star. Save your money and instead, take a short drive to Grantham where there are authentic Indian restaurants."

"Visited the Thatch with my wife for an evening meal overnight accommodation. Booked as a result of a recommendation by a friend reviews given by people who have previously visited. The whole experience lived upto expectations. The welcome from Sammy (owner) was welcoming sincere. Food was of a very good standard, service by waitress (Megan) excellent. The accommodation was both good value clean more than adequate for our requirements. Would very much recommend hope to visit again"

"while we were at a very windy wet day at eye kettleby lakes, we found that the krone would pick up in our caravan on Sunday lunch. it was very easy to order online, we both had bark meat truthahn with an additional side of black in cover, absolutely delicious, very generous portions hot when it arrived, finished with jam roly poly custard cheesecake of the day that were again beautiful. we can highly recommend this pub."

"We were recommended this pub by others and have been meaning to go for a while. On arrival the I feel the entrance needed a tidy up as first impressions weren’t that good. Inside however it was quaint and appealing. The arms of the chairs...all kept coming off when you tried to pull your chairs up to the table so definitely needs addressing. When I went to the toilet i felt it was a Shame too as it felt scruffy and the fire door inside the toilet was very dirty and needed a good paint as it made it feel generally untidy and unkempt. It’s a shame as it’s quite an attractive pub inside with the fairy lights on the ceiling. Food was ok but nothing special. The food comes out on slate plates, not on proper plates and chips etc in little baskets. I found mine very difficult to eat trying to lean over things to get to food. I would usually tip it out onto the plate but couldn’t as there was nothing to stop it going on the floor. Looked nice to serve but not practical especially for the kids. When we got there we were told they would do the kids chicken or fish Goujons or make kids portions from things on the menu. My rating is about the cost in general and imparticular the childrens food. I was not told before any costs as there was no official childrens menu. When the bill came I got charged £9.50 for each childrens main course for a 5 8 year old !! EXTORTIONATE, had I been told this before ordering I would not have stayed and gone elsewhere. So for one adult main course and two children’s meals and two children’s ice-creams a glass of Prosecco and some Coca colas it came to £60 !!!! I get two three course meals in most places we go with childrens meal deals for just over half the cost of one of their children’s meals. For a country pub, out the way I would think they need to get people back, unless business is that good they don’t need more customers. I would definately not be going back it’s far too expensive for standard pub food and there are some really nice pubs round here a lot more reasonable prices. If you are a family you need a mortgage to take your kids to eat there !!! Very very disappointing"

"Family visit, from beginning to end just awful. Table not set for correct people booked and had to squeeze into an already overly packed room, re set for the missing people was never corrected. After waiting 20 mins requested menus, after waiting another 20 mins requested order to be taken. 30 mins later, 2 starters arrived. 1 hour and 15 mins later no dinner arrived, hungry and tired of such a long wait, we all had arrangements post dinner we had to leave and just asked to pay for what we had. Bill came with alcohol on, which non of us had had (as paid individually at the bar) no apology, no let’s make this up to you, nothing.. truly gutted as booked this a month in advance for a special occasion and lack of care, detail and experience was very evident for a new ownership that clearly wanted to pack as many punters in for multiple settings rather than quality over quantity."

"I had said that was an excellent place to eat. my friend traveled a long distance to come to lunch after I told her it was recommended. our main complaint was the bad service, drinks over the table twice, with a...Giggle of 2 different servers and no offer of wipe off the table, I told the server that I wanted only green beans on my meal, but it came with the sweetness I didn't like, 2 people couldn't work out our bill, it was a shameful and fable. After I had repeatedly emailed the owner by e-mail, I now sign my bad review that I would not have done if he had replied to my asking at a time he replied, but I had no feed back to our experience."

"Had lunch with a family member, ordered coffee, a bacon sandwich and a toasted sandwich. Good service and really good coffee. Food arrived and a bit disappointed that the toasted sandwich was not toasted ! but she did not want to make a fuss !...Fillings very nice tho but unfortunately the bread was not up to the same standard. This why a scored the food as average.There are a lot of really good bakers in the area and I would suggest that they be looked into."

"We came to the grange on seeing it on social media being recommended as caravan and motor home site well worth a visit , it certainly is , from the minute we got here we were welcomed by john and Katie the owners who checked us in , showed us all the facilities and to our pitch which is very spacious , although hard standing , being one of the larger pitches for a very small fee per night extra it also has a large grassed are too . Electric nominal charge water and grey waste disposal all on the pitch . There is an on site restaurant also a cafe and it is part of a site that also has a garden centre and a couple of small retail outlets all totally separate from the caravan park only 1 .5 miles from the town of melton Mowbray and a dog friendly, small roadway no cars to get you there , the shower facilities were all new and second to none, the place has a very relaxed feel to it but no visitors stag or hen doos and no access in or out at the quiet times later on in the evening which is for us a bonus and we do search these places out . A gift of fresh bread and a scone were brought to us as we were setting up as a gift from john and Katie nice thought and even a treat for Ollie our springer after tea . Excellent place excellent value for money and we will be back ."

"I went to this pub with my family (me myPartner and 2 kids) we were having a nice drink whilst we waited for friends to arrive until the LANDLADY! came to the bar and asked if my child doesn't like being in pub, I asked why she replied because she's crying. I said its a he and yeah he's ok, for her to then say can you leave the pub because shes crying too much. My child is a boy not a girl for a start and he only cried for 15 seconds. I was under the impression it was a family pub as we have been before and never had any problems but I've also never seen the landlady before! She had no respect at all she was really rude the way she spoke to us! She made me feel awful. There were only 2 other people in the pub at the time too! WORST PUB I'VE EVER BEEN TOO!"

"Stopped by on our way back from Leicester for coffee and lunch. Our first impressions were not great, as the staff in the shop didn't even bother to give us eye contact or say hello. The customer service was poor, especially considering there was nobody else in the shop. It's not difficult to instruct staff to make an effort and be friendly to customers, is it? However, the cafe was a different story, with attentive and friendly staff. The sandwich and soup we had were okay but a bit pricey for what we got. Overall, the experience was average, but we were hoping for more."

"we are regular customers at the flying Childers, but this was the first occasion bringing family members who have multiple food intolerances and who were very nervous about dining out. We cannot commend Paula our waitress enough she was fantastic and nothing was to much, she was happy to answer all the questions and the level of detail in regards to the possibility of any food cross contaminations was above and beyond any we have experienced else where. she re cleaned the areas where my Aunt and sister were seated and provided new cutlery, something that has never been done at any other establishment. we cannot thank Paula and her colleagues enough for making our evening a stress free and enjoyable one."

"An independent coffee shop, tucked away behind the High Street. Tables outside for warmer weather. Inside quirky, with posters etc on the walls. Great staff service. I had a lovely coffe, and huge scone, warmed as requested, with pot of butter. Lots of regulars eating and drinking there, which made a great atmosphere. I was only in Melton Mowbray for the day, and it was highlight of my day. Highly recommend!"

"After being recommended to us, we booked for Sunday lunch with friends whilst staying locally at a nearby caravan site. First we were ushered quickly to our table and told that someone would take our drinks order when were seated, this would you be bad but none of knew what beers and ciders they actually sold. Once seated we waited 10 mins for a young inexperienced waitress to take our drink order. Unfortunately she didn't know what they sold either so we opted for the normal boring lager to make life easy (even the real ale drinkers did this). Each drink was delivered individually with quite some time between them then one drink didn't arrive so a trip to the bar was needed to ask where it was ! Once perusing the nice looking menu was over, our oder was taken. We never waited long for our starters and we all agreed that they were lovely and very tasty. This in mind, we were all looking forward to our roast dinners. This is where it all changed....we were not informed that the beef was served rare and had I have been a vet I suspect I could have got the breathing again!! I could have managed rare as a one off if it were succulent and not like chewing on an old leather boot. Others in the group had turkey which was fine however the sausage wrapped in bacon was putrid and tasted off. We were served vegetables in a deep bowl wih various veg in. Unfortunately we didn't know what was in there until we dug to the bottom. As it happened the veg on top we didn't like so we asked for the bowl to be taken back and presented in a more appropriate way. It came back in a flat server still mixed up ! One small boat of gravy was presented between 6 of us (all gravy lovers) so much of our time was spent asking for more or asking for better presented veg. I felt sorry for the waitress but I suspect it was a lack of training from management which made the poor girl look Inadequate at her job. The landlady attempted to be polite but was clearly disgruntled by us sending the veg back and requesting more gravy. We will not be returning and wish we had stayed on site for Sunday lunch in the clubhouse!"

"Called in for the first time in a number of years. I heard it had reopened after closure during 'lockdown ' and the Covid period, so, with a friend decided on a re visit. Called in on a Thursday lunchtime. Not busy but a full menu including a 'Specials ' board was available. A warm greeting behind the bar led to a couple of drinks and perusal of the menu. Lots of choice we settled for sharing a selection of Tapas dishes coupled with two glasses of House red wine. Tapas was generous in portion size and delicious in taste. Plenty of tasty morsels for two gentlemen enjoying a light lunch. Service was excellent and the decor conducive to a re furbished country pub. At one time it was a favourite of ours and we will certainly be back in the near future to experience a 'proper meal '."

"We tried to book for Christmas lunch last year but it was fully booked, which says a lot in my book! We were successful this year and what a treat it was.. The restaurant was clean, festive and very welcoming,as were the staff. We were shown to our table by a very courteous young man who pulled the chairs out for us and placed a napkin on our knees, offered us the drinks menu and recommended an alacaholic or non alcoholic cocktail to go with our lunch. A lovely thought which proved to be a lovely accompaniment to our meal.. Our waitress brought us ice cold water, delicious appetisers and fresh baked warm rolls, followed by either soup or terrine, both of which were superbly presented and very tasty. The main course of turkey with “all the traditional trimmings”, was hot, well cooked and delicious and went down a treat. To finish we had Black Forest trifle and Christmas pudding.. The waiters and waitresses were friendly, efficient and attentive without being obtrusive throughout our meal. All in all, a very pleasant start to our Christmas Lunch Season! We sincerely hope that all the catering “students” pass their exams with flying colours. Well done all of you.. Josephine and Brian"

"I required 2 rooms in or close to Scalford for myself and a colleague to stay before a days staff training. Looked about, there were vacancies in Scalford, but not that I could accept. I opted for the Tollemache arms, purely on reviews by previous guests. I was not disappointed. The people at the Tollemache arms are in a service industry and they get it, they provide a service, with a smile, easily, nothing is too much. They are just nice. From the initial phone call to make the booking, to the reception on my arrival, to the evening meal, and a really wonderful packed breakfast. All good, better than good. Phoned and booked direct, really helpful from initial contact, with if we 're closed when you arrive just call us, we 'll be there and we 'll let you in . I was allocated room 4, overlooking the beer garden, a quiet room to have in winter. Ample milk and coffee sachets, tea bags, and 2 biscuit packs supplied. The bathroom is big, the bedroom fine. Supper. A warm dining room, nicely laid out. They had a party of 20 in for a Christmas party, so our dining time options were restricted, and we had been told that, so being reasonable, it was not an issue. It 's not reasonable to go in at any time and demand everything, immediately! My, fish and chips, was good, really, seriously good. My colleague had the burger. I had a tase of the burger. Next time, I WILL have the burger. Please note that breakfast is served FROM 0730. We were due to start work at 8, so sadly missed out on a cooked breakfast. The optional items for that were numerous, really sadly, we missed out. Fair enough. If we needed breakfast at 0500, it wasn 't on. Anyway, we were offered and went away with a packed breakfast in a bag. Ham and cheese salad sandwich, crisps, bottle of fruit juice, and a large slab of chocolate cake. The ham was sliced chunks of ham off the bone, sliced red onion, cucumber, lettuce, mayonnaise, delicious. I don 't comment on decor or the plumpness of cushions. I stay away on business a lot. No matter how fancy a room or the decor or the facade, if the service or attitude of the staff or proprietor is wanting, it blights the stay. The Tollemache Arms and the staff is, are, a little gem, tucked away in the middle of nowhere. When I next work near Scalford, I will look to stay here again. If I look for a weekend break in or around Scalford, I would look to stay here. Happy to have found this place. I wish them all well."
