"A group of 15 walkers went to the Axe Compasses for a mid-week lunch. Everybody enjoyed their lunch and the cozy wood burner, which made for a rewarding finish to our walk. The interior of the pub is rustic and charming, the service was excellent, and I heard several positive comments about the quality of the food and the choice of beers. The two-course lunchtime menu is very reasonably priced. In addition, most dishes on the a la carte menu include the choice of a smaller portion. The pub is tucked away in the historic heart of the lovely village of Braughing, opposite the Church Green, yet close to the A10 and the A120."

"Found this place as was looking for somewhere half way between two locations so literally just put a pin in a map however we were not disappointed. 8 adults for Sunday dinner, service was fantastic, the portions were very generous, in fact the Crayfish on the Caesar Salad was too generous. The quality and quantity of the meat on the roast dinners was excellent nothing was too much trouble and the staff were delightful take a drive and visit this place it’s worth it"

"Wow, what a great find. The pub/restaurant is brilliant. Excellent food and service. Great menu and a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. Dog friendly in the bar, with plenty of room between tables for our two large Labradors (there are only three tables so you need to book). I cannot praise the staff highly enough, they make you feel you are one of their regulars. The food is all home made (including the chips), fresh vegetables. It was so good we have been for a meal twice in a week. Well done to you all."

"Set in the lovely quintessential English village of Brqughing in Hertfordshire, The Golden Fleece is all that you could wish for in fine countryside dining. The pub is situated on the B1368 with adequate parking and a lovely garden and patio area. Inside the roaring inglenook fire welcomes you on cold winter evenings and the bar is friendly and comfortable. Excellent choices of real ales and the choice of wine and gins is exceptional. We booked late on a Saturday for six of us and were seated in the spacious restaurant. The food was not delivered quickly an indication that everything is freshly cooked to order. My venison steaks, cooked rare to my liking, were lovely with a superb sauce, lovely seasonal vegetables and everybody else’s meals were equally excellent. And, I just love the beers here. Well worth a visit."

"We always come back to Pearce's for the charming ambiance, friendly staff, and tasty food. This time, we tried their afternoon tea and it was fantastic! The unlimited drinks included were a nice touch and they were able to accommodate vegetarian needs without any hassle. It was honestly much better than some high-end, expensive afternoon teas I've had. The store itself is delightful and overall, it's a wonderful place to visit!"
