"We booked this restaurant after reading the reviews while touring Scotland what a disappointment. When we arrived we were shown to a table straight behind the door and as it kept opening and shutting it blew a massive amount of cold air in. As both parents and staff allowed 2 young children to go in and out every few minutes it got a bit much. We were given the menu and told specials were on the board. No description or recommendation. Also they did not say the board also goes over the top of the fish on didplay. I had crab claws to start the mayonnaise was lovely and what I could get out of the claws was nice but I was given no instruments to get into the claws and they were not broken enough for them to just pull out. I ordered the turbut for main as did my husband it was a small fillet with the skin correctly removed but it was loaded with garlic butter sauce you couldn't taste the fish for the garlic. Also which was worse I don't know what they did to the top of it but it was yellow and like thin rubber. We had to peel it off it was not good. I didn't complain at the time because I am not used to having a fillet of turbut. When I have had it before my husband and I have shared a turbut presented whole at the table. I have only written this today after speaking to some friends who said i should put something on because there had to be something wrong for the top of the fish to be yellow and leathery. You might guess but I won't be going back."

"First of all if you want food in iona your options are limited to this bar or one of the two hotels. We chose the bar as we stayed in the rooms opposite. which I highly recommend: Sadly they stop orders at 1900 and meals are a limited selection with no menu and only a set few to offer that day . In our case Fish and chips Mussels Scampi Vegan nuggets No childrens menu available The Barman Ross took our order dourly and made us feel rather unwelcome: sadly. He seemed much more keen to shut at 1900 promptly. As our party was split between the campsite and the rooms we ordered quickly as it was 1800. Two of our party sat in the dining room. Food was fast 1810 but … our party wasn’t complete. We asked them to wait which they did with good grace and when our party was complete, the two girls Siobhan and Tracy served us our meals cheerfully and politely. Our food was tasty and hot. Fish was tasty and the scampi was crisp and flavorful. Chips were served as sides between two people, rather than with the mains. There was more than enough to go around : During the time that we waited for our meal, Ross was observed putting the umbrellas down on the outside tables whilst guests were sitting there. I don’t expect that made them feel welcome either.. maybe he was having a really bad day?? All being said, the food is tasty but rather expensive for what you get."

"This is a pleasant little Hotel, although at first we had trouble finding the car park (its up the side and round the back. And we had abit of trouble finding the entrance. We thought with the Carpark being where it was at the back of the house, there might be an entrance to the hotel there also. There wasn't! After trying every back door in the heavy rain carrying suitcases we had to walk down the hill and around to the front of the house to find 2 doorways. Check in was swift and easy. Our room was lovely and warm and modern. The shower room looked as if it was recently refurbished. Towels were tired looking and thin, the bed was comfy enuf, but the pillows were flat and not up to much. Kettle tea bags etc an biscuits were good. The walls are very thin, we could hear ppl chatting in the next room. We stayed for dinner, it was nice but not worth £18 for fish chips, very over priced for pub grub quality! The service was good tho and quite speedy. The breakfast was included for our 1 night stay, I had a full Scottish breakfast, it was such a letdown as it wasn't freshly cooked, everything was reheated (microwaved) dry, the bacon was like cardboard, mushroom so dry they had shrivelled up and were like rubber. The potato scone was dry and stiff as a board, I couldn't cut it with a knife, nor the bacon. And talking about knives, the strangest shaped handles that were already awkward to use let alone trying to cut a stoating breakfast. The haggis black pudding was just a greasy flop on the plate. The poached egg was edable as it was cooked fresh. The orange juice was dilute juice. There was fresh fruit salad that was nice an Croissants too. For a visitor experiencing their first Scottish breakfast it was a real let down. All in all it was a cosy clean hotel, but not the cheapest for what we got, and I'd defo avoid the fry up ooft.. Also worth mentioning the front door of the hotel stays unlocked all night unstaffed, it felt abit unsafe as anyone can walk in from the street, even if there is a small camera, who's sitting up watching that all night? No one!.. So cosy room, but overpriced food horrible SCOTTISH breakfast fry up (with no toast) let this place down and spoiled my experience. I didn't complain as I couldn't do with the drama first thing in the morning. But I won't be returning."
