"I often visit the Wine Barrel for coffee as I find it a pleasant environment to relax. It has a spacious seating area which looks across the Piece Hall Courtyard. There is always somewhere to sit and most of the seating area is under cover and they do have outdoor gas heaters for when the weather is cool. Although there is an option of sitting inside. I find the service is excellent with a wide range of drinks on offer and the staff always make you feel welcome."

"We stayed at The Hobbit for a couple of nights near the beginning of August after its reopening due to covid. The hotel is tucked away on a hillside overlooking Sowerby Bridge. The room was in an annexe very modern and clean. The views over the hills were a lovely sight especially as you could sit outside for a drink and chill as we were very lucky with the weather. Obviously at this time we had to follow guidelines and the staff seemed to cope really well as it was all new to them also as the hotel had only recently opened up for business again. Breakfast was good with enough to start you for the day. We did book dinner on the first night but wasn't overly impressed. The hotel is a good point to stay for local visits. We managed to travel to Hebden Bridge and Haworth in one day and take in some of the local culture. Would certainly use this hotel again."

"I had to write a review after seeing the recent bad one. I am lucky enough to live here in Hebden Bridge, and JK's is my favorite local takeaway. JK's offers the largest selection of vegetarian Chinese dishes I have ever seen, and everything is absolutely delicious. I am a big fan of the tofu in black bean sauce, the mock duck pancakes, and the mock duck with teriyaki sauce dish. Just thinking about them in this review is making me crave a takeaway tonight! I also have to mention that the staff working there are the friendliest people you could meet; everyone is cheerful and polite. Overall, I would give JK's a 10 out of 10."

"Arrived not really knowing what to expect but chose this inn for its location as we planned visits to friends and family nearby. What a great decision it was to stay here. We were immediately welcomed by friendly staff. The inn serves excellent beer (Timothy Taylor’s which was our first pleasant discovery. The first night we also discovered what excellent food was served with imaginative touches to traditional dishes from the chef. Breakfast was equally great with very generous proportions. The inn was kept very busy with diners at lunchtime and in the evenings (certainly at the weekend and the six available guest rooms seemed fully occupied. We were glad we booked some time in advance for the four nights we stayed. So booking is recommended for diners, and early booking for overnight guests its certainly worth it. All the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, no matter how busy they were. All brilliant at multi tasking! The food on our other evenings did not disappoint, and breakfast was consistently good. The only slight drawback was an intermittent wifi but this certainly would not deter us from a repeat visit. As an added bonus we were able to top up charge our EV using a standard domestic socket outside the garage (where there was ample parking . Very slow charge but a boon before we set off again on a long trip when we left. (So if you drive an EV do pack an domestic supply three pin plug converter. Thank you to Jayne and all the staff for making our stay so great!"

"We stopped by Squeeze for a light lunch simply because there was parking available outside, and we were drawn in by the sight of someone enjoying delicious food through the window. As frequent visitors to Hebden, we have often struggled to find a spot for a satisfying yet casual lunch. The restaurant was run by what seemed to be a young couple who worked well together. We found a table easily and settled in without any issues. A few menu items were unavailable, but we were informed before making our choices. Despite being fourth in line to order, there was a slight delay in receiving our food - to be expected in a busy place with a small staff. This was far from McDonald's. We ordered the breakfast stack and a child's toastie on sourdough. Our son loved the toastie, which came with crisps and fruit. He is a hungry 3-year-old who enjoys his food, and he wouldn't stop talking about it for hours. The breakfast stacks were delicious, and they accommodated changes without any hassle. The food was tasty, made with quality ingredients, and worth the price. While some have mentioned hygiene concerns, we didn't share the same worries - after all, germs can be found anywhere. The only improvements we would suggest are poached egg options and brighter lighting in the restroom. We will definitely return to Squeeze in the future."

"Went to The Secret Cafe today as it has been quite some time since we were last there. My Mrs had been browsing on Her Chromebook and some review came up about The Secret Cafe and She said was it the same one we had visited some time ago and if so, we need to go again and check it out. The weather today was quite wet and Her indoors suggested we might go today for a bit of lunch so we left a damp Wyke and went over to a very wet Luddenden Foot to pay them a visit. I had already checked the Menu out online and had decided I was going to have the Beef Chilli with chips and a pitta bread, however when we got there the lady that came to serve us pointed out the Specials menu and I clocked the Gammon, Eggs and Chips with Mushrooms and Tomato, so immediately changed my mind (as I am quite partial to a bit of Gammon). Sorry to be boring but we both ended up with the Gammon and two pot of tea. While we were waiting I was watching some of the items coming from the kitchen and said to the Mrs I haven 't seen anything small come out of there yet A full English Breakfast past, flippin 'eck and then a couple of rather large sandwiches in large teacakes and some baked potatoes with ample fillings past our table so I had a pretty good idea what to expect and I wasn 't disappointed. A young woman brought our tea 's and after a while brought the lunch plate which consisted of a nice piece of grilled Gammon a good portion of chips, topped with two fried eggs two large slices of grilled tomato and a good helping of mushrooms. Gammon was properly grilled, the chips were delicious, fried eggs were fresh (the whites were almost meaty, that 's when you know the eggs are fresh and the yolks still liquid, perfect) and a good portion of sweet mushrooms, what 's not to like there. Both of us were highly delighted with our food and enough tea for two and a half cups each, perfect lunch. Lunch for two of us cost 22.00 which included the two pots of tea. Bargain!! The place was quite busy (I 'm not really surprised) however I was surprised at the reasonable prices and quality of the food, so keep it up Guys, you are doing it right. Lastly the staff were pleasant and helpful and on a final note we are going to have to go back to try the Chilli and one or both of the night do 's. It could be Pie Night or the Gourmet Evening possibly even both, so watch for the next review. Thank You to all at The Secret Cafe, the secret 's out"

"Impressive! Haven’t been to the Spring Rock in a few years, so consequently wasn’t sure what to expect. Fortunately we managed to get the last table and started off with the Vocation ‘bread butter’ and it was a great pint. Both of us ordered the fish chips, we were not to be disappointed. The food was outstanding, no frozen chips, tinned peas etc. The fish was huge and cooked in a beautiful batter. We should of fasted for 24 hours prior to this visit. Added to this, the waitress explained that we were entitled to a free bottle of wine. All for £30.00!!! We will certainly be dining here again… with a larger party ."

"First time in this delicatessen cafe its was a really nice welcome warm and cosy atmosphere ace chairs nice food good today's specials loads of staff. So I went for the turkey stuffing pigs in blankets cranberry sauce sandwich and lentil and bacon soup, oh and a latte. I had a little wait for my order but got my latte straight away on a bit of wood cool. They didn't seem to have one person sorting the order as they had to ask which soup it was again and then the sandwich was ready then the soup was waiting. But I got them soup was excellent on a bit of wood cool! The sandwich had bacon sausage stuffing cranberry sauce but no turkey in it, it also had thin flat lettuce in it which in all honesty didn't fit right in the sand which. I mentioned this they sorted it out I got some turkey and a cake fir my inconvenience which was great. I'm going again Brill might take the wife lol. Please like my review if it helps."

"We went into this town centre pub purely on spec as we needed somewhere to eat quickly and near Piece Hall. We were treated like royalty we were the only diners and we had total attention from the chef /owner. We had a lovely generous sized prawn cocktail followed by scampi and chips with salad. The chips were proper home cooked. We had an absolutely lovely time there with friendly people and really good food. Give it a try if you're in Halifax ! Highly recommended"

"Nice little restaurant in Hipperholme, the beer is Menabrea which is a decent Italian lager. The early bird menu is excellent value and difficult to ignore if you want pizza or pasta. I had chicken liver pate starter which was good. The mains were a long time coming afterwards but worth the wait for the pizza which is hand rolled and full of flavour. My partner had a vegetable risotto dish which had no seasoning whatsoever and could easily be mistaken for a packaged rice with some veg mixed in so a little disappointing. We were in no hurry to get away but nonetheless the service was a little unattentive although friendly when it was there so no complaints on the staff in this regard. Would happily visit again but wouldn't rush back immediately."

"We were in Yorkshire on holiday and I always associate W.Yorks with good Indian food, so we fancied a takeaway at our holiday home. We went for the one which Tripadvisor said was the better one in the area, which was Tamanna's. Efficient telephone service. Delivery on time from chatty driver (who may have been the owner, I think). Food was excellent. Good portions. Tasty. I probably over ordered as I forget Northern portions are so big, so some of it was served as side dishes for dinner the next night. The only problem was they delivered the pickle selection but forgot the poppadoms. I can forgive them as it was good."

"This cafe is located in the most endearing street in an exceptionally pretty town. I wandered around the town before stopping here desperate for a cuppa. I ordered tea and noticed that there was apple crumble on the menu. I ordered a piece having no idea how generous the serve would be. The tea was served with a ginger nut bikkie. So , soon I was teary… my grandmother great) used to make bikkies just like these… and the crumble reminded me of her apple pie… my English Grandmother born in nearby Worksop had left England in 1924 and managed to take a bit of home with her to Australia and share it with her grandchildren. I thanked the poor lady owner, who seemed genuinely perplexed by my tears no more than myself) … I thanked her for bringing such a poignant memory alive. So for me … this small cafe was something special."

"I really enjoyed The Page when it opened. It had a great atmosphere with an excellent book collection, an interest in cocktails and hard liquor and seemingly good intentions. I took another artist friend here with our notebooks, to sit and have a cocktail in the company of great literature but was very disappointed. The books are no longer there. Instead replaced with fake plants and a TV screen. The music was unbearably loud and aggressive transforming the atmosphere to somewhere I would consider as an adolescent teenager. The drinks were nice but everything tarnished by the horrible atmosphere. I would have recommended it when I first went but definitely not now. I prefer a good drink much more in the company of jazz or even some experimental electronica than thrashing rock music for metal heads. Marry the vibes, it was all so confusing. I'd have to turn the page rather than go again. Not until my nerves are soothed...."

"We called in for breakfast, as it looked like a really nice place with beautiful surroundings. We were so disappointed and I wish I’d checked the reviews here first. I had ordered eggs benedict and the yolks were rock hard, bacon was bone dry (like it had been sat there for hours and hours! and rather than English muffins, it came on a piece of sourdough toast, half of which was burnt and half of which was untoasted. Assuming the bread could only fit half way in the toaster! Service wasn’t great either. After we had paid and were leaving, only then were we asked if everything had been ok, to which I explained it was disappointing. We were advised they’d “let chef know”."

"We have had bacon butties sat outside filled with quality bacon. We have sat inside for breakfast. The full breakfast was delicious but the eggs Benedict was divine. Today we went back for lunch....homemade soup and a sandwich was real quality but the star of the show was a burger and fries. Outstanding. "Our first visit to this restaurant unfortunately turned out to be our last. The service was incredibly slow, both in the line to order and in waiting 50 minutes for our food. Our order was simple - a breakfast and scampi - but the scampi came without the peas we requested. By the time it was returned to the kitchen to add the peas, it had gone cold. Additionally, we found it odd that we were asked about condiments after the food had been served, leading to the waitress having to retrieve small packets of salt, pepper, and vinegar from the kitchen. This seemed like a waste of paper, time, and energy, when simply having salt and pepper shakers on the table would have sufficed. Despite the friendly service, the lack of staff or experienced employees made for a less than enjoyable dining experience. With many other customers experiencing long wait times, it was difficult to simply leave after paying upfront. Overall, the restaurant seemed well-equipped with tables and customers, but lacked the proper staffing to provide a satisfactory dining experience."

"My wife and I visited Shibden Mereside Cafe today for a light lunch, it was our second visit in three weeks. Last time, we were seated in the extended area as it was busy. The food and staff are generally good, but we were put off when staff started clearing up and stacking chairs on tables while we were still eating. Today, we arrived early and sat in the extended area again. At 2:15pm, a staff member came in and started cleaning, lifting chairs onto tables. One customer asked what time they were closing and was told 4:30pm. This made us feel unwelcome. I hope the manager reads this review and addresses the issue. I may return in the future, but not in a hurry. It was disappointing and unacceptable."

"I inquired about gluten-free options due to my coeliac disease, and I was absolutely impressed by the staff's helpfulness and knowledge. They were well-informed about cross-contamination and mentioned that they prepare gluten-free dishes separately, using different utensils. They also noted that gluten-free bread is not toasted alongside regular bread, which I appreciated. This is the first time I've had a server in the UK recognize oats as potentially containing gluten and a source of contamination, which made me feel very safe dining here. There was a great selection of options, and the staff were incredibly friendly. The nachos were delicious and came with generous portions of sour cream, guacamole, and salsa. I also enjoyed a chai latte that was equally delightful. I would be more than happy to return for another meal—thank you!"

"Nice cafe inside , ordered a panni , sandwich arrived which i have say was very nice , HOWEVER, the sandwich came with a bit of salad and 3 crisps ! i asked if it was possible to have a few more crisps and it was refused , i was told i could by a full bag if i required more crips, by what appeared to be the manager, HOWEVER on the way out the same person was observed washing a bowl of prawns which were placed in a dish in a sink that was labeled and designed for hand washing only, were the prawns still frozen, who knows ? but why would you put a dish of prawns in a sink for hand washing and leave the tap running ? maybe the cafe could let us know ?"
