"The entire meal was an exceptional experience, started with sitting at the bar and enjoying one of their great selection of in house cocktails I’ve never been to a restaurant where staff have gone through the menu step by step even coming out with a board of cuts to show the quality of their produce we really appreciated it Lewis (sorry if I’ve butchered that). We went here for an anniversary meal so when getting to our table we’re greeted with a lovely card congratulating us which again was a first. The food was excellent, great selection of steaks and sides, I would say that if you’re going as a pair then 3 sides is likely enough to share between you. At the end of our meal we were brought complementary ice cream cones which was a welcome surprise. Service couldn’t have been improved, all staff were friendly and attentive. Would highly recommend this to anyone, many thanks to the staff for a great night, looking forward to our next visit!"

"Booked ahead of a stay in Chester after searching for the best restaurants. The only availability was two stools in the window but I’m so glad we took them as it provided a great spot for people watching. We just had some olives to start and they were amazing (a Spanish queen olive called Gordal). We shared the paella for main which is made fresh to order. It was really very good, washed down with a French gin called G’vine which was new to me (and I have tried a lot of gin). I was impressed that the G&T was served in a small glass rather than the huge stemmed glasses which drip condensation due to the massive amount of ice. Finally we shared the baked cheesecake which was very rich and nicely accompanied with a fig jam and strawberry. This restaurant is not cheap, however the food was great quality, cooked fresh and the staff were lovely, so definitely worth it. The decor is low key and very clean. I think the price reflects the location and I would definitely recommend it for a romantic meal or celebration."

"This used to be our favourite pub in Chester, and we have stayed here twice. However we 've been out of the country and thus not been here since 2019. It is not the same. Went for an evening meal. Beer (brewed on site and admittedly very good was £5.50 per pint which is about £1.20 £1.30 over the odds for this part of the country. Very limited menu with fish and chips at £17.95 (again ridiculous price locally . We had decided to 'suck it up ' (we had booked, after all but then they told they 'd run out of chips! How can a pub run out of chips? Admittedly manager(? was politely apologetic. It 's a city cente pub and was very quiet at 8pm on a Tuesday evening no surprise. A place to be avoided until they improve their menu and drop their prices by 20 30"

"We booked this Toby Carvery in the morning online by chance as it's an area we haven't been to before and we were travelling back from Wales to home,A lady who served us was called Hannah was most helpful,Our first observations with this lady was how she greeted us on our welcome, took us to our table, got our drinks order and took our order for our meals and explained what we needed to do when we wanted to go up to the carvery, Throughout our stay which was approximately an hour she was always within reach for any requirements we needed even though she seemed very busy she had everything under control with other diners too,Throughout our time spent in this Toby carvery what caught our attention was how much energy the young lady had in keeping a lot of diners satisfied whilst also showing a happy and positive attitude herself towards all visiting guests well done and if management could pass our gratitude onto her,"

"marco pierre white is one of the best steak houses in chester. Top-class food and a diverse menu. the Scotch eggs were my favorite starter on the menu. Trust me, good ponsh scotch eggs are really hard to find. the schlossbriand steak was incredibly good (it is a sharing court, but they need to bring a friend.) a thing that mpw stops getting a 5-star rating, are the prices that live in all fairness to the call of a first class restaurant in a very beautiful hotel. would definitely recommend if they don't make it out for something very decent eating."

"on the drink card it only shows alcoholic drinks that I find angry to be honest. I asked the waiter for non-alcoholic drinks that they were great, but I think they should put all the drinks on the menu they sell. I came to fry with the family. there is a vegan option to fry,' the wellington. no vegan sites. a vegan dessert. the wellington was nice. with the roasts the sweet comes in separate bowls/plates, so we help ourselves instead of coming on the teller. what they brought was not enough for all of us, so we had to ask for more. they brought more and they didn't accuse us either. I think it was little pricy for what you have. there is only a vegan dessert option. on the main menu it seems more vegan options, but it could be even more. it seemed quite loud from the kitchen to scream and the staff was nice, but quite busy. there are quite a lot of stairs here, I notice everyone up or an accessible toilet, maybe I missed them."

"We visited for a friends birthday on Saturday night and were excited as we've been before and it was fantastic. On this occasion, our drinks took over 20 minutes to arrive, we weren't served our food until we had been there for over an hour and the service was generally very poor. At the end, we asked for the bill only to find that service charge had been automatically added (the there was only 5 of us dining! . We asked the waitress why and were told that it was an accident and it wasn't compulsory; we felt that this wasn't fair as some people may have paid the service charge without realising. We were also told that the evening had been a shambles in the kitchen and that there was no manager on the shift. It was such a shame because the food is so good here and the service shouldn't let the place down."

"We came to Cheshire on a trip from London and popped to the Cheshire Cat for an evening. The pub has a really nice atmosphere and is really cosy. The pub is well decorated and has comfy chairs which are nicely spaced out between tables. On the first night we just had drinks and were impressed by the really friendly, attentive staff and reasonable prices. They have a lovely selection of gins and tasty beers on tap. We came back for a second night and had a three course dinner and was once again impressed. Lovely hearty food which left us full up and satisfied. The only downside is that we can't have this as our local in London"

"First time we have been to Hickory's in Chester, quality of food was excellent I had the Rump Steak which was the best I have had for a long time, cooked to perfection. The Onion Rings are absolutely massive, but not greasy or full of batter, just right. Hickory's in Rhos-On-Sea next."

"We Have just left the black dog incredibly disappointed after traveling there for my partner’s birthday. The food was terrible and the service was even worse. We were greeted by a very miserable waitress who didn’t even properly turn around while telling us she’d be with us in a minute. Once we ordered our first round of drinks we were not asked… More"

"This restaurant is fantastic. The food and portion sizes were excellent, and the prices were very reasonable for such amazing dishes. We will definitely be returning multiple times. The winter Negroni was like a boozy cherry bakewell in a glass, absolutely delicious. On average, you can expect to spend £20-£30 per person. The food, service, and atmosphere all receive a perfect score of 5. Highly recommended dishes include the Pepperoni Pizza, Meatball, and Fettuccine Alla Carbonara."

"first visit last night and we had a brilliant time. the staff is great, very friendly and helpful. I asked if they had a wee they did not serve, and the waiter suggested an alternative that was perfect. my partner has a heavy nut allergy and although we mentioned it on a waitress, it had been clearly communicated among the employees, as another waiter was aware when he talked to us about desserts. our meals were deicious and portion size is good for the price. we will return!"

"amazing plant food. plants based full English and a piece banana cake for one of us. beautiful and amazing! oyster mushroom and some other mushrooms on a piece sourded with a basilikum and garlicdrizzle, avocado as side and the sweet kartoffel hasch as side. totally amazing! all with a carafe clean cold water for a pfund. employees and customers were amazing. clean toilet, smells big, dyson hand dryer, load toilet rolls, just for the case! always a good sign when the toilets are clean and tidy. the restaurant has a large ambiente, clean, chairs and small tables also outside. wow! Sound system was really decent, bass module hidden somewhere and really shows the bass tones of the choice, especially the reggae, treble not too high, so it was easy to hear each other and still listen to the music in the background. recommended by a friend and visit and the meal worth."

"We were seated at our table and, after 20 minutes, we were offered drinks while we waited. The menu is extensive with plenty to choose from. My partner ordered the steak, which was cooked to perfection, while I opted for a selection of tapas. They definitely offered more than just a bite! I initially thought the portion sizes would be small, but when the dishes arrived, the servings were very generous. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. To top it all off, we were served the largest slice of cheesecake I’ve ever had! The service was impeccable, and we felt well taken care of throughout our meal, without being rushed at the end, which was lovely. Thank you for making our anniversary weekend even more special!"

"Lets not get territorial my fellow dwellers of Mancunia. We must unite in golden triangular formation with our Pudlian and Chestonian brethren. Together we really are the best region in the country!!! It is thus without a hint of territorial superiority complex I present to you 1539. Look, fact of the matter is, as much as I LOVE Madchester, I 'm a sucker for a visit to Chester and the Pool. It takes me back to our Roman adventure of a trip at school. I have a soft spot for Chester and all it has to offer in its cute little Roman package. To this day I reserve numerous ganders a year wondering the walls of Chester with friends or family to collate my thoughts or share the peaceful nature of the activity. As I do so, one of the images that hover in mind is that of Chester Racecourse. Being not much of a gambler myself I am oblivious to the excitement of racedays, the restaurant attached however is right up my avenue and it is this restaurant that I finally present to you fellow yelpers on this fine tintin snowy day. If I had a pound for the number of browny points I have gained for taking the lady somewhere different for a candle lit dinner I 'd have decent pocket change for a meal here!! The place ooozes va va voom and the glass-fronted restaurant boasts a panoramic view across the racecourse, which is serene even in the winter. The summery months of July and August are perfectly made for the outdoor decking area offering al fresco dining. While it is contemporary British cooking being served here I don 't for once hold it against them. For while I am more inclined towards other worldly cuisines 1539 does serve up grub to my liking. The spiral staircase to the Ruinart is something that will really impress your dinner guests here, as I 've pleasently found in the past. I 've been told its the oldest Champagne House in the world exclusively producing premium champagne since 1729. While majority of you will find this to be irrelevant, frankly I don 't particularly care much either, however history does intrigue me oh so much as you all know. The roof is bang on for pre/post dinner drinks though I wouldn 't say so at this particular juncture of the year, with us going through a North pole faze in the UK. My recommended course of action would be arrival Sunday mid-morning for a walk around the Chester wall concluding at 1539 doorsteps for a spot of Sunday Lunch. At a rudimentary £25 per couple(2 courses) expect a decent helping indeed. Being an avid fan of the Pomegranate , there is a salad which has plenty of it as a starter as well as pear, pistachio and Pant-Ysgawn goats cheese. Good old fish n chips for the main should be rounded off by a nice Vanilla panna cotta avec fresh berries at which point you 'll be good to go for the 2nd leg of your Chester wall walk to the car. That 's just me though, make your own schedule for your visit to Chester and 1539, you will not regrettez pas! Chamon"

"Having been to the Grovesnor before and enjoyed great service and food I was so disappointed by how far it fell short on this visit when we returned with friends. On arrival there was no one at either desk to great us. The restaurant was barely a third full so no excuse of being busy. I had booked a table weeks previous for dinner to find on arrival the table only half laid. Instead of asking us to wait at the bar and providing a drink while this was rectified, we were ushered to sit down and the table laid around us. The was a poor start to an increasingly disappointing evening. Drinks were then offered. My partner asked to taste the beer that was on offer for the evening and we were all served our drinks. However, AT NO POINT DURING THE EVENING did anyone return to find out if he wanted a full pint or something else. For reasons I will outline below, there was no opportunity to get a drink for the rest of the evening so we all had one drink and he had a thimble full. We ordered starters; again fine and the starters were delicious. However, less than 5 minutes later the mains arrived. I asked the staff to take the mains back to the kitchen as we were still eating but they just stood there….we literally had to push our starters to one side to make space for the dinner plates. This is clearly totally unacceptable. We ate as quickly as we could so the food wouldn’t become cold with nobody checking on us, offering drinks or in fact any input at all. Every other table receives copious attention. I just couldn’t understand it. By now we had been in the restaurant for about and hour with three of us having one drink, one a shot glass worth of beer and a rushed meal. Clearly we wouldn’t be ordering pudding and coffee on this occasion. Their service charge was, eventually, removed from the bill but only after asking just leading to embarrassment all round. It seems the staff were totally oblivious to the woeful service that was provided that evening. I very rarely write negative revises and I am just so disappointed that a lovely evening was ruined and cut short. I’m afraid we won’t be returning."

"We went to try out the new vegan options. Nearly all the vegan options have chilli. Do they think all vegan food needs chilli to make it tasty. I had one of older vegan pizzas that doesn't have chilli. The pizza was ok, could have more cheese to be honest. The dough balls were ok. The staff were ok and friendly. There are number of vegan options. I didn't enjoy the food that much, it was just mediocre."

"the best place for kebabs and fried chicken. it is close to the university of chester. it is usually overcrowded by students and home delivery orders. love their 2 pieces chicken meal combo. Huhn is beautiful and juicy. also their kebabs are great. they also offer sides. a must."
"The food was delicious. There was 11 or 12 of us so we had quite a few different things and nobody had a bad thing to say about any of their starters,..."
