"I should start by saying that I have been a regular Kwong Tung for at least 20+ years and until today I have never had any cause for complaint. Normally I collect my order, but today (for once) thought I would try delivery. The lady who answered the phone had a great deal of difficulty locating my address despite the fact that it is a local village and I had given her the postcode. She Kept breaking off my order to talk to other customers in the shop. When she finally came back to me, the bill was significantly more than I expected. I suspect that an extra delivery charge beyond the stated £1.50 had been added because she was unsure sure of my location. Despite this I decided to proceed. I was then told that she could give me no idea of when I could expect delivery. When I suggested 1 hour or 2? I was told no idea. At this point exasperation and irritation was beginning to set in, so I said would it be easier if I collected this? Her reply was “You could have told me that in the first place” She then disappeared again, at which point I had had enough and hung up. I can appreciate that Friday nights are busy, but this was not at all customer friendly, not to say **** rude. I can put up with a lot, but not a bad attitude and manners. Given that there are 2 other excellent Chinese Takeaways in town I would suggest that they remember that they are dealing with (and trying to keep) their customers If they find delivery so difficult and a hassle, then don’t do it. Sorry to say that it will be a long time before I go back to Kwong Tung."

"We recently celebrated our wedding at the Ashbrook arms in October 2020. Sean and Roszita were very welcoming accommodating, particularly as we were scheduling the wedding less than 10 days before the date (Due to Covid levels changing! Our guests (21 adults 2 children enjoyed a drinks canape reception, while we took several photographs on the grounds of the hotel. Our photographer was delighted with the ample locations for shots including the courtyard, walled passage, Green house, river, resulting in many fabulous shots! Our speeches were held before the meal in the initial dining area before proceeding to the conservatory for our 5 course reception. We were blown away with the standard of food, and choice on the menu. We hadn’t had time to schedule in a meal or tasting in advance, but we were assured by friends and family that the food was good! In addition Sean catered for food intolerances with ease as the Bride had some dietary requirements. The conservatory was the perfect room for an intimate group, and made for a very elegant dining space with the assistance of a local florist . On the night there was only our wedding party staying and we enjoyed the run of the hotel with a leisurely breakfast the following day. Everything about the day was relaxed and comfortable. We would highly recommend the Ashbrook Arms as a wedding venue for any couple planning a small wedding."

"Apparently The Black Swan has a Michelin Rising Star and is a AA rosette restaurant in so our hopes were high for a great evening meal. Sadly we were hugely disappointed as we paid through the nose for some very pretty but completely flavour free food.We started with the free range Free-range Chicken Terrine with Pea Mousse, English Quails Egg, Peas and Crispy Bacon and the Pan-fried Mackerel with Mackerel Fritters and Warm Pickled Vegetables. Both dishes were extremely well presented but, and it is a BIG but, they had little or no flavour. The Chicken was utterly devoid of any flavour at all, in fact, the only item on the plate that tasted of anything was the crispy bacon. The fish dish was little better, it was amazingly flavourless, the best item on the plate was the warm pickled vegetables. So onto mains… I had the Line-caught Wild Sea Trout with Crab Crushed Potatoes, Samphire and Sauce Vierge and my guest ordered the Slow-cooked Belly of Old Spot Pork with Roast Apples, Fondant Potatoes, Bacon and Thatcher’s Cider Foam. Once again the presentation was faultless but the portions were very small. The trout was overcooked and served on a bed of completely tasteless Samphire, the potatoes were over salty and the Sauce Vierge was again utterly flavourless. And this pattern sadly repeated itself for the pork, which was extremely greasy and once again was devoid of any taste at all.I have no idea how this establishment had managed to impress the assessors at both Michelin and the AA; this will remain a mystery to me. Maybe the chef was away when we visited? Who knows? But on the strength of our experience here, I’d recommend giving The Black Swan a wide berth."

"The Jolly has had a mixed history, not all good, but the current landlord is really trying to make a go of it. It retains the aura of a village pub, dark beams, rough walls and small rooms, the bar and a small restaurant area. We visited on a weekday evening, two couples, looking for good food and a swift pint or two with wine for the ladies. Entering the fairly busy bar we found a table, enquired about food and bought a round of drinks. The ladies had red, it came as small bottles of Javk Rabbit, no proper bottles yet, I suppose they're get measure of their customers needs, a pint of Fosters and one of John Smith's.. they had a guest ale Timmy Taylor's, but it was the fruity one, not my taste. Food ordered, into the restaurant area, 6 tables for 4, starters of battered prawns, very nice. Onto mains, ladies on the really nice Steak and Ale pies, gents a burger with bacon and cheese, and first and chips. The chips were proper home made one triple cooked), the pies were individual made to a recipe Jamie the chef has used for years ...don't change it mate, it's perfect. The burger again hand made no bought in frozen junk here), the fish fried to perfection. Everyone was very happy with their meals... did I say the burger came in a proper bun/roll/bap none of that sweet brioche rubbish! Into the beer garden to allow food to settle there's a servicing hatch/bar there too), for another couple of reds and a lager, lime and soda for me...designated driver. In conclusion, food great, service great, surroundings a work in progress ...but its early days, we wish them well and will be back for another of Jamie's meals."
