"Chose this place mainly because they are dog friendly and also the photos on the website looked nice. I called and the gentleman who I think is the owner was very friendly and suggested we could just turn up as it would be a little quiet tonight. So we did and he was just as lovely in person. First impressions were great. They allow dogs in the bar area which is just as lovely and cosy as the restaurant itself. All the candles and light music made the ambience perfect. However it did feel cold in the room where we were sat but when I asked if it was possible to light our fire in the room we were told no it was too late in the day to do so. Not such a big deal but I do think having both fires lit on such a cold day would be better. The food was really delicious. Good menu choice also. The owner was fantastic and the service and welcome he provided was excellent. The only reason I gave a score less than excellent is the waitress that served us didn’t seem to be very hospitable or genuinely happy we were there despite us being one of only 2 tables. She just made us feel that after our main meal she wanted us to get the bill. We stayed for dessert anyway but when I asked for the hot drink list she replied with well we do tea and coffee that’s it and also a little abruptly. We all felt that this place has so many positives but maybe in future the waitress could just try to be more like the owner and be more hospitable, welcoming and friendly. Maybe it was just an off day but regardless it was a shame as we all felt this spoilt the place a little. However I can say if you are looking for a lovely country pub that is dog friendly, has great decor and delicious food this is a good place to go."

Popped in on a whim- stayed for dinner. Gem of a place. Lovely tea- we had fish chips and steak and ale pie. Went down a treat. Lovely landlady-Jill. Had a great chat. If you’re out this way- pop in. Worth it.

We stayed in Bedale but decided to drive over to Snape, good choice! This is a super old traditional village Pub with excellent food and hand pulled beer. We both had very good starters and mains served by friendly helpful staff. Highly recommended.

Always use this pub as a half way point in a long journey. I had the burger with sweet potato fries and it tasted amazing. I asked for garlic mayonnaise and the lady who served us said they didn’t have any but would make some for me. fantastic service and attentive staff!

What a fabulous place! Jill is the perfect host. Food is delicious (try the steak pie or fish pie! and breakfast fills you up for the day. Lovely seating areas inside and out. Great rooms with generous hospitality tray. Locals very friendly too.Good location for the Dales and the Moors. 10 mins from the A1.Give it a try you won’t be disappointed. I’ll be back soon, thanks Jill!

Having extolled the virtues of this pub since first visiting in 2016, we were really looking forward to our repeat vacation in Snape and eating again at the Castle Arms. Sadly, on the 2 occasions we attempted to eat there this week, the unfriendly waitress gave the impression that she would have preferred it if we had not interrupted her busy evening. In fact, on the 2nd occasion, we were left waiting nearly an hour to place an order and we were offered nothing to tide us over in the meantime, not even a friendly smile. In the end, we gave up and left, hungry and disappointed. What a huge disappointment after having looked forward to our return visit for 2 years!

Five of us stayed for two nights and had dinner one evening and enjoyed breakfast on two mornings. The landlord, Ian, is very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The pub itself is quite quaint with seating areas near the bar and the restaurant in a separate room. There was one fire lit in one of the bar areas but its effect was quite limited so the place did not feel very cosy. Our dinner and breakfasts were good and portion sizes were generous. Our bedrooms were located in an annexe building separate from the pub itself. The bedroom my wife and I occupied was small and cramped with a tiny en-suite bathroom. The hand wash basin was very small, barely adequate. The room itself was very warm...

My family (along with our dog and I visited the Castle Arms Inn based on the reputation of a previous visit by my parents.Unfortunately, it felt like there needs to be a brush up on the basics of customer service. The young lady on front of house seemed pleasant enough regarding our request as to whether we could have a table. As there were four of us, there wasn 't a table available at the time. This, in itself, wasn 't the issue. The issue was with the bar manager/owner whose attitude gave the impression of, at best, couldn 't be bothered with our request or, at worst, smacked of not wanting myself and my family to be there. As somebody who works in the customer service sector, I have an appr...

"We arrived here for a 2 night stay for a wedding (Fri sat night). PROS: Lynsey the manageress she 100% makes it so fabulous. Lovely, welcoming, looked after us brilliantly. Due to some staff shortages, she was doing what seemed like 10 jobs at once! We ate on one of the nights food was delicious! Great service tasty food. Breakfast was also spot on set us up brilliantly for the day ahead on the Saturday! The Willow room which we stayed in was fab ideal size, lovely cosy too! The whole 2 night stay was extremely reasonably priced the place itself has a great feel about it like a big cosy house! CONS: If you like total darkness, take an eye mask for sleeping as the rooms can get really bright from the early hours. Also, depending on the room, it’s on quite a busy road so can be quite nosy it would be worth having earplugs if you like a quiet surrounding. Due to staffing, the bar doesn’t stay open that late, so be mindful of this, they will however put drinks in your room if you can’t make it back in time for the bar closing. Taxis there are no local taxis, so arranging transport to the wedding we were attending was a nightmare which we didn’t account for! Luckily after 6 different phone calls, we managed to get sorted. The only gripe I had was the confusion over the bill if you decide to charge things to your room, the bills aren’t itemised so it’s difficult to keep track of what has been charged. There was some confusion on checkout over what we should shouldn’t have been charged for, so definitely choose to pay for any extras outright to avoid any confusion or uncertainty before check out. Other than that, it was one of the nicest, most personal stays we’ve had out in a long long time. This was mainly down to the Manageress Lynsey who is fabulous at her job really does make it feel like home makes you feel super welcomed relaxed. Thank you lynsey for really making a stay a one to remember."
