"Stopped for a bite to eat on our NC500 journey. Lovely restaurant and was lucky to get the last table as all the others reserved. We had the Haggis bon bons which were lovely and well prepared. Followed by fish and chips which was delicious such a light crispy batter. Definitely pleased we stopped just for the fish and chips alone. (Sorry no photo) The waffle and ice cream was also delicious. Definitely worth a stop"

"No doubt about it, this was the best food stop on the NC500. I had the steak sandwich and my wife had the Lebanese platter, to die for. The staff were so lovely and the young lady serving us was more than happy to talk us through some of the walks we could do in the area. They treated our dog like the star customer and even took his picture for their instagram. They were pretty busy when we came in, but it was school holidays and the staff made sure we felt seen and everything flowed beautifully. Spoke to some bikers next to us that said it was the best food they had ever had , can't say we disagree!! Delicious coffee, stunning food, incredible location and friendly staff. A credit to the area and an absolute star find. Thanks so much guys, we will be back."

"The staff at this restaurant was well-informed about vegan options. We enjoyed americanos with oat milk, skinny fries, and tomato soup with a warm bread roll and vegan butter. The menu also included veggie fritters and risotto. We couldn't resist ordering 2 slices of their mouthwatering carrot pistachio cake. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo. They mentioned that they always have at least one vegan and one gluten-free cake available. Overall, a great experience!"

"what a relief. After there was a terrible experience in the medditeran luqoom in inverness (it was terrible Italian eating), this was a breath of fresh air. Those with nuts allergies will be glad to hear that main dishes and side have no nuts (not sure about deserting). the pizza was spectacular and was the perfect size. the suppe of the day was minensuppe and was great. the waitresses were fantastic. be aware that to busy hours they need a reservation. total large restaurant in wick."

"We recently returned to the cafe after a long absence due to the pandemic, and we were pleased to find that it was still open and serving delicious food. We ordered a plain jacket potato and a chilli beef burrito, both of which were excellent. The potato was fluffy on the inside with a crispy skin and came with plenty of butter. Both meals came with a side salad and homemade coleslaw, which were also very tasty. For dessert, we had caramel pancakes and cherry pie, both of which were delightful. We highly recommend the thick milkshakes as well. The staff welcomed us warmly and the cozy interior made for a pleasant dining experience. The prices were very reasonable, totaling just under £30 for the two of us. We will definitely be returning soon."

"Fantastic dinner here!!! The chili and coconut sauce for the mussels was great! I am very picky with mussels and chose to follow my waiters advice and go for the nontraditional version- worth it!! I also got the goat cheese appetizer with the onion chutney- also delicious! The old fashioned I ordered was a little crowded in the glass but tasted great. Overall, I was very happy with my dinner (both dishes I ordered were appetizers and were filling enough for dinner for 1) and I think I will come back here again before I leave Inverness."

"The service was terrible- took over 20 mjnutes to take our order and the couple who came in after us got their order taken before us. My partner got the soup of the day and scone which were lovely, however I order the baked potato with tuna and cheese and I was very disappointed. The potato was cold, under done and there was barely any cheese on it. We have been previously 2 years ago and it was BRILLIANT!! What happened? The aesthetic is lovely but the environment is not pleasant, you can hear all the staff talking very loudly!! It appeared some staff were just standing around not doing anything clearly seeing people were waiting. We even witnessed a couple taking a seat and the server didn’t even bring them menus… Very disappointed visit, won’t be returning which is a shame as their breakfast menu looks delicious"

"We visited this restaurant three times when we were here two years ago and couldn't wait to come back. It's really friendly, lovely, and cosy with the stove on, creating a great atmosphere. The food is tasty and simple. We've had two lunches here this week and highly recommend the bagels with smoked salmon and cream cheese, as well as the hummus with roasted vegetables. The paninis with brie and cranberry, and mozzarella, pesto, and sun-dried tomato were also delicious. We would have tried the haggis fillings but already had it for breakfast! The chocolate brownies are some of the best we've had, and my partner really enjoyed the millionaire's shortbread. The coffee is great too. Thank you to all the wonderful staff, we will definitely be back."

"What an amazing place! The size of a cafe, with the food quality of a really nice restaurant. The smoked salmon salad was just gorgeous, and plentiful! And they do a great selection of quiches, soup, wraps, baked potatoes, paninis and they're DOG FRIENDLY our mutt enjoyed a dog's ice cream. Perfect and luxurious lunch spot for travellers."

"We tried this a couple of times. One as a small group of 3 (two adults and a child) and one as a larger group. First night was a busy Sunday dinner service so the service was a bit slow but it was busy so you can account for that. The food was fantastic the Sea Bass and the special of Oatmeal crusted herring were faultless and we fed this back to the group and arranged a follow up meal later in the week. The second visit was memorable for different reasons. We were shown to our table and looked over the options on the menu. Two of the party ordered the duck, one serving wasn't edible as the fat was still raw and chewy with the orange sauce being warmed up marmalade and not appetising to look at. This was returned to the kitchen but no offer of a replacement and this was still charged onto the bill. The fish curry was tasty and good portion size but the poppadoms and rice were stale. Overall I don't want to be too harsh here as we did have a very enjoyable meal on one occasion. Staff were friendly enough but understandably busy. It's worth a try but maybe stick to the fish and other specials."

"Had a first class meal in the Norse Bakehouse when we visited. We all ordered something different of the menu and everyone was delighted with their choices. The pizzas were incredible and easily the best we have had, so fresh and tasty. When it came to the desserts we were also far from disappointed. Not only was the food delicious, the atmosphere in the Norse Bakehouse was lovely and all the staff very welcoming. Sad that we have only just come across this restaurant before the end of the season cause if we had made a visit sooner we would have been more than regulars. Thank you again. X"

"We arrived in Kingussie for a mini hol mid lunchtime, as we drove the high street the eye catching sign caught our attention so we dropped our bags and headed back, Hubby was happy you still had cooked breakfast on, kids menu had plenty of choice and my chicken tikka panini was full of flavour"

"The food at this restaurant is fantastic and the service is excellent. My family of four had a great experience with the new menu, offering plenty of options to choose from. The drinks and cocktails were delicious. We enjoyed the pork croquettes, tomato soup, and salt cod fritters for appetizers. The portions were generous and everything was very tasty. The cod fritters were a bit salty, but that was to be expected. For our main courses, we had chicken, duck leg, seafood linguine, and mac and cheese. The food was all delicious, especially the flavorful linguine and the mussels. The service was top-notch and the portion sizes were satisfying. While a bit on the expensive side, the quality of the food made it worth the cost. The panna cotta was also delicious. We indulged in desserts as well, with the huge sticky toffee pudding being a standout. Even though four people could easily share it, we ended up ordering three desserts because we were in a relaxed mood and feeling like indulging a bit. We were visiting and staying in the village and would definitely recommend this restaurant to others in the area."

"Nice enough pub and very welcoming bar person. Booked this primarily for food as the website showed a reasonable selection of pub grub. Arrived and no sign of anyone eating (with hindsight, 1st red flag). Ordered our drinks then led through to the restaurant an adjacent Turkish restaurant called Lale with extortionate prices. Ordered fish and chips at £17 a head the worst I 've ever encountered in my my 57 years! Limp carcass of a fish with oven chips and salad a ramekin with a bit of dry lettuce and chopped pepper. Only tartare sauce was in a little plastic sachet. AVOID AT ALL COSTS."

"visited here 27/9 it was late 2.30 and she closed around 3.00 questioned suppe, but was only available tea, coffee and tablet bakery. I was tried by the short brot, I shouldn't have been that there were two fingers of walkers wrapped in plastic around 2.60. The...cheek started cleaning the table with about five minutes. we got the note and went to pay, only then came three types not carrying masks looking for food, just to say that they could only get suppe and a sandwich. we are not coming back. charlie"

"We visited Caffè Cardosi hoping to have lunch but were disappointed as everything we asked for from the specials was finished (by 1230) and the usual menu isn't very exciting (sandwiches, toasties, baked potatoes). Our waitress was excellent, friendly and couldn't be more helpful, even advising us on how to get to John O'Groats. Eventually we all got something to eat (they were quite busy but it took for ever) 10/10 for our waitress, whose name was Hannah, if it wasn't for her we'd have left, but only 4/10 for the whole experience."

"There were six of us in our group and we opted for the Sunday lunch with starters, including a kids meal. As a self-proclaimed foodie, I appreciate when someone puts time and thought into creating good food. I enjoyed the roasted cauliflower and miso soup starter, it was great to see an underrated vegetable used so well! The venison carpaccio and calamari were also fantastic. The beef and venison roasts were cooked perfectly and were very tender. The crispy kale and rainbow carrots were delicious. The Yorkshire pudding was perfect and the gravy was rich and flavorful. Overall, we were thoroughly impressed with our lunch. The kids meal was also excellent, featuring a homemade burger with cheese and crispy fries. We paired our meal with a very nice Rioja. I skipped dessert, but the crumble and brownie that the kids had looked amazing. The brownie appeared fudgy and indulgent, I regret not ordering it for myself! The chef at Badachro is clearly talented and it shows on the plate. The staff takes pride in their work and it truly shows. I wish I lived closer to Badachro so I could visit more often, it's probably the best pub/restaurant in the area. I highly recommend a visit here."

"I visited Oran Na Mara twice this week. I’m not sure what came over me really. I always have the bacon and egg sandwich on a visit here. Without fail. Until now. Something snapped inside my head I think, and caused me to abandon all my usual protocols I think I stick to “the usual” as I know how delicious it will be. And I couldn’t bear to risk disappointment by leading myself astray and making an off piste choice Yet this is exactly what happened. The gentleman owner was quite certain that it would be the aforementioned usual, as he, with a flourish, tapped his biro on his order pad and said “Will it be the bacon and egg sandwich?” to which I replied, with the faintest hint of a quiver in my voice, “no I’ll have the full breakfast please Andy” Naturally Andy was sure I was joking. Or had been drinking. Or both. But I wasn’t. A similar occurrence happened on my return visit when I ordered the burger, with cheddar, bacon, and pickled gherkins Both were equally delicious and I now have three firm favourites from the menu. On my next visit I feel sure I will revert and at least choose one of those three. Equally, I may go completely giddy and take a further step into the unknown It’s always lovely food at Oran na Mara, and superbly presented. Along with great coffee, good banter and lots of lovely birds to view (on the bird table and feeders! including a ‘new to me’ bird this trip a siskin a beautiful yellow/green finch The wife and I travel from Melvaig and back to visit, a round trip of 42 miles. Booking recommended"

"Visited when in the area as it was dog friendly. The dog was welcomed in and brought biscuits by Robbie which is great to see. Pie's we had were top notch , tasty , bursting with filling and quick service. Good range of drams and other drinks , great value for money. Will be back. Worth a visit to this dog friendly pub for an honest straightforward meal with some good banter."

"We arrived for lunch without a reservation and were accommodated in the bar rather than the very busy restaurant fair enough. we got drinks fairly quickly and ordered food which duly arrived. Hamburgers and scampi were fine not too much to go wrong with what is after all pre prepared food. The poached salmon on the other hand well, let's just say it hadn't been poached recently, in any sense of the word. Poached salmon should be warm, moist and flaky. I was presented with a solid lump of cold flesh with a couple of bits of skin hanging from it. I literally had to prise lumps off it it was like digging clay. It was barely edible cold, tough and chewy. The salad wasn't particularly appetising either with a pile of various lettuces, some sprigs of pea leaves, a couple of half tomatoes and, in the place of the advertised baby potatoes, a separate plate of five medium tatties cut in half. Never mind the quality, feel the width. I did raise it with the waiter who smiled as he apologised and hastily disappeared. I also raised it with what I took to be the manager. She asked, rather curtly, what was wrong with it. I told her but didn't get any warm feeling that she gave a damn. Anyway, I paid the bill. They can put it towards a cooking class for the chef."
