"Oh, what a day we had at The White House for my auntie’s 88th! It was pure magic, right from the off. The team there couldn’t have been more welcoming, making us all feel right at home in the heart of Scotland. Now, let’s gab about the food it was out of this world! We started with gluten free fish n chips, and let me tell you, it was as good as any chippy by the sea – crispy, golden, and just packed with flavor. The venison steak and beef short rib? Cooked just how you’d want them, tender and full of taste. The gluten free burgers were a hit too, so juicy and well seasoned. For pudding, we had these scoops of ice cream, smooth as you like, and an apple crunch cheesecake that was simply to die for. But it was our server, Anastasia, who really made our day. She was a wee star – always there with a smile, quick with a recommendation, and knew her menu inside out. I barely noticed our water bottle was empty, and whoosh, there she was with a full one. That’s service for you! The atmosphere in The White House was just as warm and inviting as you’d hope for. It felt like sitting in a cosy wee pub in the Highlands, with all the charm and friendliness you’d expect. So, if you’re ever in the mood for a meal that’s as satisfying as a wee dram on a cold night, head to The White House. It’s not just eating; it’s a proper Scottish experience, full of heart and soul"

"I've eaten here before today and I knew from this experience that the portion of food on the all day breakfast is vast. I'm not sure why there is not the option of a small breakfast when there is a regular and a large. The regular has two of each item and I understand that the large breakfast is three of each item. Would a small breakfast of one of each item not be an option? I'm raising this as today I saw huge amounts of food being left on peoples plates and being dumped. While the owners don't seem to mind this because the customer has paid for the food, surely now we are much more aware of waste and the environment would the small option not be viable for the customer? I also observed the issue of not having a machine for card payments and only taking cash. There are two small signs informing the customer of this. One is stuck to the far right of the ice cream counter and directly behind a seat in which a customer was sitting, obscuring visibility and the other very small sign is on the right of the entrance door. Today an overseas visitor to our city ordered a varied and profitable amount of food and drink at the counter. His companions were sitting outside. Once his order was placed he attempted to pay with his card and was then told that it was cash only. The gentleman went back to his companions outside and I could tell by the confused looks on everyone's face that this was not something they wanted to do. The gentleman then came back to the counter and cancelled the order. Why are the staff not informing customers when they are presented with the menu of this very odd and outdated practice before the customer orders their food. So many customers had to go and find a bank to get cash clearly unaware of this practice until attempting to pay their bill. The food tastes lovely and we had a really nice girl serve us but signage must be larger and more visible re cash only."

"As a local, we are so lucky to have such a wonderful and unique place to enjoy such incredible food, incredible in many ways. From a tiny galley comes the freshest most delicious food you can ever imagine, packed with flavor and produced with genuine passion, you can almost taste it before it even hits your mouth! The seafood in particular is excellent and fresh, delivered every day from Orkney, the once home of the lovely couple who run Oakwood. The various sauces for the fish are rich being packed with a mix of butter, cream, wine and fresh herbs. All vegetable's and potatoes are fresh, don't expect frozen food here. There is no other place on earth to enjoy and appreciate quality food. The surroundings are stunning and quiet, no road traffic, just the odd small boat or canoe paddling along the canal. Not been since August 2020 due to lockdown, but my tummy is pulling me back. If the weather is good, eat outside with a canvas of greenery singing birds and a mild breeze shaking the trees just enough to provide the distinctive and beautiful sent of Highland woodland. This place has the finest and freshest food in the Highlands, while most restaurant's cook food, Oakwood creates a completely unique experience with a mix of phenomenal food, great hosts and the craic is always grand. One final point, feel free to bring your own beer or wine, glasses are provide free of charge and always with a smile!"

"Love this place. I were here 5 times and i completely love come here. It is a small restaurant, with not big tables and chairs with dim lighting. On every table stay fresh flowers. At the evening plus nice candle. Play eastern nice music. Attention! If you want come here, you need book table. All tables can be occupied. Were here tuesday evening, here were very noisy. So if you need more quiet and nice atmosphere, come here in a day. I managed to try several dishes and liked them all. All were vegetarian. I ordered: Halloumi casserole, halloumi and vegetable shish, babaganoush, aubergine shakshuka, camomile tea. All starters like babaganoush and aubergine shakshuka served with warm pitta bread. I choose from menu berry tea, but it is no more available so i have got camomile tea. Halloumi casserole served with fresh salad and couscous. Halloumi casserole a lit bit spicy but very tasty. Salad served with fresh piece of lemon. For me in salad too much vinegar. Couscous served with tasty herbs. If you order just drink and main dish, it is served without pitta bread. Bread you need order extra. Halloumi and vegetable shish served with bulgur pilav and fresh salad. Halloumi cheese were some burned, so it is a mines 1 star. Babaganoush and aubergine shakshuka were awesome. Very very tasty. Nice staff, delicious food and an overall pleasant atmosphere make this place one of the gems in this city. Thank you very much for this nice experience."
