"We have used this place since the 90s and we had our local friends group there for Christmas Dinner here 2022. My husband had a message pop up advertising £25 for 2 drink 2 meals and urged us to go down. I urged him to phone and check, was told 'yes I 'm sure that 's everything on the menue ' booked tonight (wed) and went down. Was taken to the outside (slightly outdated) dining room for the meal despite offering the bar area, reason we did that was because waitress was already muttering 'can 't do 6 things at once ' in front of us. We sat and when someone (not waitress) asked our order we ordered drinks and asked if everything was actually on the 2 for £25 deal (again) server said he would check. Server came back with a word document with what was/wasn 't on deal not massively impressive given the FB promo. We felt a bit embarrassed at this point as he 'd been gone a while. Ordered 2 beyond burgers checked fries were on the menu as all the word doc. said was 'beyond burger ' and previously its come with different chips due to no meat contamination. 45mins later food came (this is a 1/2 empty room I can 't call it a restaurant). Waitress literally dropped plates and shot off. I flagged her to ask for another drink, she left and we looked at burgers that looked quite greasy and had cheese on. Bearing in mind we have ordered and had these burgers before which are advertised as vegan we were surprised at cheese. Couldn 't check menu as we were just shown a hasty word doc. When the waitress returned with drinks we asked her what these burgers were, she came back saying meat; we asked to cancel order as expecting vegan. Male server came back v defensive and quite patronising 'they are meant to look like meat it 's veggie hence the cheese vegetarians can eat cheese '. Then went. At this point we were both embarrassed and upset; hadn 't been asked if we needed any extra sauces/sides. Had to wait a further 5 mins before someone else appeared to say we would just pay for drinks and leave food. £23 spent for drinks and poor service. As we left the restaurant the glass collector who took our plates was very verbal into the kitchen 'look they 've not touched it ' and the male server was seemingly angry when we went to the bar to pay for drinks. The barman that served was very polite which shows its not all lost but the service was poor and its put us off as locals which is a real shame."

"Our cottage owners where we were staying at Byre Cottage Mandy and David recommended Woods Kitchen. They had left a lovely hamper in our cottage for us upon arrival from Woods Kitchen which included scones, jams, and fresh foccoci bread/ half an artisan loaf.Managed to book in for a Friday night at Lovely welcome from the team and we were seated towards the rear of the venue facing the garden and huge double patio doors. Lovely ambience...fairly lights and new vintage decor. My Dad and I are coeliac and there was a fantastic selection of meals that could be adapted. Our girls aged and made friends with the table next to us. Our dog was welcomed and he was a good boy under our table.Food ....huge portions quality food. Good value for money. My husband had the ribs and was given huge racks. I had the vegan curry. Am not vegan but fancied the butternut quash and aubergine curry. I was given a good thick slice of GF bread and rice accompanying it. Didnt need the new potatoes in it too. I would have made up with added chicken in there!! Mum had the halloumi burger and the kids burgers too. Fantastic thick fresh and hot chips. My Dad had the chicken. We both were able to have a pudding. Apple Crumble. Very yummy. Well worth the money spent. for of us. adults and two children. My husband had the knicker blocker glory....I would say this was the only thing that was a little disappointing....because it was basically a can of fruit cocktail upended in his sundae dish with two scoops of icecream and a tonne of swirly cream. Our girls wanted the brownie but it was all gone so they were substituted with a cupcake from their front of house chilled cabinet which wasn't a bad thing! It was just abit cold rather than room temp.Thank you for having us. We really enjoyed our meal on our last night. We enjoyed the hamper left for us in our cottage. Godshill is a beautiful village."

"Don't think the new cafe is as good as the old one and the last few meals I recently had here were really poor. Came in few days ago and ordered poached egg on toast which looked nothing like the picture on the menu which was 2 slices of french bread with avocado and poached eggs. I basically wanted the same but without the avocado. The lady who served me said it would be 2 slices of white toast so I asked if I can have it on french bread like the one on the menu and she said no they only have white or brown sliced bread so asked for brown bread as it appeared I didnt really have much choice here. When it arrived it looked more like 2 very small boiled eggs on bland looking brown bread and the yolk was not soft like poached eggs should. This is such a simple meal so how can they get that so wrong. Also the veggie breakfasts always come warm but on a cold plate so you either have to shovel it down or take it back to be heated up which I don't like having to do, especially when it's every time I order it. Also can't believe its gone up from £4.99 to £6.99 and portion still the same which includes only one small mushroom, there should be at least a handful to justify the extra £2. Can the manager please sort this out as there are lots of bad reviews about the food and the service and with a star rating of only 3 it just about says everything really. Think will go elsewhere from now on, very poor standard indeed "
