"This pub was empty when we were passing so we called in for a coffee, which was very nice, hot and accompanied by a biscuit. My wife's latte and my Americano together came in at the same price as you would normally pay for a latte elsewhere so represented good value for money. Although we didn't sample the food we did check out the menu, which seemed typical of what you would expect in this type of establishment. However, what struck me was the food prices, which were very good. We will probably go back for food next time we are in the area because the place was clean, the staff were very pleasant and although it's difficult to judge when the staff aren't operating under pressure it did appear to me that they would undoubtedly be confident in performing the roles required of each of them and no doubt be able to deliver a worthwhile experience to the customer. If anyone is interested they were advertising for an assistant manager when we were there."

"Gosh, if you want very slow service, a dog in the kitchen, and the staff telling off the children for colouring in, then this is the place for you! We ordered a large round of drinks at 4.45 and had NT been told they closed at 5 and then weee forced out at 5.04 even insisting one of us had a plastic cup for their drink so we would leave. I knew there was a reason why I haven’t been in here in 5 years despite it being on my doorstep in a wonderful location."

"I am very disappointed with my recent experience at this restaurant. I have visited many times in the past but the quality has significantly declined. The Sunday lunch used to be enjoyable, but this time the beef was tough and difficult to cut. Additionally, the lack of heating on one of the coldest days of the year and the excessively loud music were unpleasant. We had planned to host our Golden wedding celebration with 30 guests there next year, but now we are considering going to Cassia Sambuca instead, where we have always enjoyed great food. It was also noticeable that the restaurant was not as busy as it used to be on a Sunday. Perhaps a change in management or chef is needed."

"Mr Petit is a wonderful place to sample a variety of delicious dishes from various cuisines. The portion sizes are on the smaller side, so it's best to order a few dishes to share at the table. Although we found it to be a bit pricey, we thoroughly enjoyed everything we tried. Our meal included warm sourdough bread with whipped butter, a mix of black and green olives, pork and chicken crackling, a carnivore and cheese board, sweet sticky ribs with slaw, lamb brik, king prawns, kedgeree arancini, Mac and cheese, and sambousek cheese. With a bottle of wine, our total bill came to around £90. Overall, the food was delicious, the service was excellent, and we would definitely recommend dining here."

"we were not here for about yrs so decided to stop at lunch. extremely quiet when we arrived on a Friday. because we haven't got a fan of caves, especially since Kovid arrived, we ordered mint and dumplings from the main menu. When they arrived, they were brought into the karge opposite and the chef called to come and veg. we went very hesitant and did not guess, because at this time there were quite few waiting to serve. the veg was lukewarm and inconspicuous, the mint and the emptying was in order. we will not return. we went through the winter garden and the sanitizer was empty. a once thriving place, now with mediocre eating. what a shame"

"Parked in the customer car park, went inside the venue hoping to have a meal and was turned away due to being at full capacity. I then re entered my car and searched for another place to eat as I’m not from the area, 20 minutes after getting signal and eventually finding somewhere I left. 2 weeks later I received a fine of £60+ due to not registering my car. How on earth could I have registered my car if I was turned away at the door for being at full capacity? Honestly you guys hope you enjoy your £60 : p.s. if you’re looking for somewhere to eat and not have to pay an extra £60 if the place is full, AVOID this place at all costs! Or if you have read this make sure you register your car whilst you look for another bite to eat otherwise you’ll be in for an expensive nothing :"

"We arrived as a party of 10 for my granddaughters 13 th birthday .The man at the reception was rude i said my name for the booking and he just said wait over there ...ok no problem .When we were taken to our table it was 2 different sized small tables stuck on the end of a booth .The starters came they wern't bad garlic bread and potato skins what could go wrong .Main course one of my sons ordered fillet steak medium it came rare so had to go back by the time the second one came the rest of us had finished eating ..second steak was awful like rubber how can you not cook a fillet steak .My other son and daughter inlaw went outside to smoke before we ordered desert and all of a sudden the waiters started to move there chairs swapped two chairs for a portable booth and took my husbands chair away he had only gone to the loo i said hey someone is sitting there the waiter replied yes but we have a 40th birthday party coming in we need these chairs you'll have to make do......never again will any of us set foot in here again .My grandaughter was in tears and everyone else was foaming no thanks ."

"Awful experience at „Wetherspoon“ in Newcastle, last night. I ordered drinks – and half a chicken, grilled roasted. That arrived within about 5 minutes – and I thought it looked funny, to start off. I pulled the plate closer – and it smelt really unpleasant. But – I was hungry. So, I thought: “Go for it!” One bite – and I nearly was sick! I immediately brought this plate of …? back to the counter. “Sorry – but we cannot refund you on that!” It was around 9 pounds. So, I coughed another 6 pounds, or so – for some sausages and chips “no – we haven’t got ketchup, sorry!” The staff was really very friendly – it was apparently “management” which had decided as above! I’ll certainly never ever enter that place again. But – then: I don’t think they’re really concerned about a single customer’s complaint! After all its only one customer…"

"Constructive criticism review for the restaurant.I have been a waitress for 4 years and my partner is a qualified chef so we both know what it’s like working in the restaurant environment. It is very busy and demanding but standards should still be kept at a high. This was the first time we had been out since lockdown so we were excited to finally have a date night. We booked a table for 2 outside- this was done easily via the briar dene’s website and we received confirmation almost immediately. The restaurant followed all guidelines in regards to COVID. The outside area was clean and inviting. When we arrived the waitress told us to take a seat and she would be with us ‘in just a minute to tell us what to do’. We waited 35minutes (we did show up 15min early than our booking time- so we gave 15mins thinking they may not be ready for us yet. Then it took me approximately 20min to flag a waitress down to see how we can order. The waitress once I got her attention was happy to tell me to download an app and put my order through that. The app was easy to use. It’s called ‘Fitzgerald’. I believe this wait could have been avoided if waiting staff were proactive and said as soon as we were shown to our seats to download the app. Such as saying‘Booking name?... yes if you’d just like to take a seat. Due to COVID we are now using an app to put orders through... it’s called Fitzgerald’ It was awkward as we were sitting there for 40 minutes without a drink. If we were an elderly couple who did not have access to apps wonder what would have happened? IN FUTURE PUT THE APP NAME ON CUSTOMERS CONFIRMATION EMAIL THEN THIS WON’T HAPPEN AGAIN TO CUSTOMERS : Reduced menu: I think that they had plenty to offer and it was sensible of them doing a reduced menu. So when we did order: our food came pretty quick within 10minutes, we ordered a brownie as well. The waiter asked us whether we’d like to wait 5 minutes or so until he brings out the dessert. In which we said yeah that’ll be great thanks. 20 seconds later the waitress brings out the brownie, then at last the drinks. Apps which I’ve used for weatherspoons prompts you when ordering a gin which mixer you would like with it. This app didn’t so I ended up with a straight gin- my fault as I assumed it must just be included instead of me having to buy a separate drink as a mixer. In future so this doesn’t happen to others if someone could put something on the app that would be fab. My partner had a fanta. I hoped waitress I would have had common sense of asking her customer who has a straight gin infront of them ‘are you sure you don’t want a mixer with that??’ At first I thought she may have had her hands full when she came to the table and that’s why my mixer wasn’t there but I thought wrong and now didn’t have the energy to catch another waitress/waiters attention. Anyways this is what we had and what we thought about it below : Cod bites and chips- Pros: cod bites were delicious. The tartar sauce tasted homemade. The chips at the top of the basket were gorgeous crisp on the outside fluffy potato in the middle. Portion of cod bites were generous and reflected the price.Cons: the chips at the bottom of the basket which made up about 1/3 of chips were very small and hard- something which was probably best not serving at all. Portion of chips was a bit mean considering most of them weren’t a joy to eat.Advice for restaurant: small side salad, slice of lemon and some peas would have improved this dish. As well as more chips. Presentation could be better Nachos: £4:50Pros: toppings tasted nice- not the best Cons: not sure why they are called nachos when really it was topped fries which weren’t very nice. Kind of just tasted like frozen fries that weren’t crispy. With tortilla crisps at the bottom of the bowl under the fries with no sauce on all piled in a small bowl.Advice to restaurant: keep it simple tortilla chips, plenty cheese, salsa, cheese sauce, guacamole and sour cream. Even if the price needs to be increased at least it will be a good experience for the customer. Basically don’t put fries in on the top of the bowl as it’s really just topped fries XD I like the idea but it’s not working for me sorry. By changing the presentation it will make it look more appetising as well. I did think at first it might have been because you’d had tan out of tortilla crispsOnion rings:Best onion rings I’ve ever tasted- the batter was delicious!!No cons at all they were perfect. Brownie: £5.95Pros: non reallyCons, cost, brownie was cold- checked as soon as it came out so hadn’t cooled down due to the weather. The ice cream was obviously just cheap- which is fine but for a £6 brownie I would expect better. The brownie it’s self wasn’t nice- didn’t really taste like a naughty tasty desert. It tasted plain and the presentation was boring. Advice for restaurant: new brownie recipe if you’re going to sell for £5.95 make it be worth it for the customer. A dessert is a special treat- again presentation!! Making it warm as well. I don’t care if it’s microwaved for a minute as long as it nice and warm When you think of a brownie you think of warm and sticky gooey brownie with a lovely chocolate flavour that makes you want to go in for another bite. The restaurant is beautifully located and has lovely outdoor sitting. The waiting staff are friendly but need to be a bit more proactive.It is outside near the coast so it will be nippy. Me and my partner were prepared and brought a blanket each and a hot water bottle. (There isn’t any outdoor heating either so definitely wrap up warm Would I go back? Not for a meal but for drinks with a side of onion rings I possibly would. 2 stars have been given as it wasn’t the worst but it wasn’t great it just has lots of room for improvement. I really do hope to hear that they have changed things for the better as the pub has so much potential. One more thing to advise would be when you make these changes and get better reviews increase your activity on social media. Possibly offer cocktails as well. Hope this review isn’t taken the wrong way it was just our honest experience yesterday. I know things can be tough with COVID- but let’s make the best out of a bad situation"

"beautiful garlic tea balls, olives and pommes. the first time that we have visited, pleased to say that it was a beautiful experience. the restaurant was very quiet with just a few other customers, but well designed and the environment was quite clean - so customers can use the opportunity for handsanitisers. the staff was friendly and polite enough while serving our food. the main course was delicious, I had pulled grill chicken pizza and my tante had margarita- beautiful thin crust and they could say everything was freshly baked. the best part of this meal was the desert. the keksteig with vanilla ice cream should die. only something to improve could decrease the prices of the menu. everything was very expensive, but there was no mistake with eating."

"We wandered into this deli on Saturday as our first choice establishment had no seats. We were not disappointed; we were impressed and wondered why we had walked past so many times previously.My husband tried pimped poached eggs which bore more than a passing resemblance to eggs benedict and I had Heuvos Rancheros which had a real spicy kick.The food was freshly prepared, portions were a good size and was really enjoyable. "To be honest, we were somewhat disappointed in our visit meal and it was no where near as good as the carvery style sunday menu we thought we were going to get. There was not much choice at all for starters or desserts on the 'help yourself ' part and there was a shortage of desserts, only 2 to choose from a plain cheesecake and yogurt pot type desert. Also, no spoons available for the soup or deserts. The Sunday lunch itself was quite standard, nothing special. I enjoyed the beef but my husband wasnt impressed with the processed turkey he got. Staff were pleasant enough but we cleared our table of both starters and mains ourself as no one seemed to want to take our used plates away do we ended up putting them onto another table or on the bar! Only positive was that I had purchased a voucher so instead of £50, we spent just over £25. I most certainly wouldn 't pay full price for what we got and wont rush back for sunday lunch. Very disappointed as our kids loved it last time with the choice and especially the ice cream machine but this has all been changed and not for the best."
