"Everyone at the restaurant was very nice but I thought the head waiter was old school, aloof, and un-attentive unless you spoke French. The restaurant is old but has been renovated with an old charm. Fortunately, the hostess was very nice and checked on us a few times. Also, a young man took our order that was very polite and helpful. The house Terrine de Foie Gras was excellent. We both ordered the Fillet de Boeuf cooked rare the way the chef recommends but I was disappointed in pieces we received. They were both end pieces, one from the thin end and one from the thick end. Although we ordered them cooked the same way the thin one was much rarer than the other. The end was very thin and then got thicker, I do not know how anyone could cook it properly. At these prices I don’t think they should be serving cuts like this. (I hope it was not because we we’re Americans. My wife did enjoy it though. The woman next to us order the Filet medium. It was well done and looked ruined. I think she should have returned it. The boeuf came with a generous portion of sauce. The sides were very good. Puréed white potatoes and sweet potatoes. String beans, and a huge plate of frites that were delicious. Overall a very hearty meal. We have been to Paris at least 10 times and are very polite. Most people are friendly and welcoming but in this case I felt like the head waiter was intentionally rude. Everyone else there was great. Between that and the cuts of meat we received I don’t know if we will go back. There were a lot of English speaking people there that I think had similar experiences."

"I will preface this review by saying that while we are Americans, we live in Paris and are accustomed to pretty brutal service, but this was on another level. While the space, food and neighbourhood are all lovely, the service was unbelievable. We made a reservation for 9:30 and arrived to a fairly busy Saturday night. We were a few minutes early and grabbed a seat at the bar. The energy in the restaurant was chaotic, frantic and disorganized. Our cocktails were pretty good, although on the pricy side. The hostess working the door was visibly flustered and not particularly warm or welcoming. I don't really fault this poor girl, as seemed to be on her own. Once we were seated at our table, it was about twenty minutes before anyone acknowledged or spoke to us. In fact the two guys who sat down next to us at the bar while we were waiting AFTER we did, were already eating their appetizers. By this time, I was losing my patience, but the menu looked promising and we were hungry. Finally - a waitress came over and took our order. We ordered some drinks, a starter, some sparkling water and some pizzas. First to show up were our pizzas. We told the guy dropping them off that we still hadn't had our starter and he looked confused. By this time, we were starving so we just took the pizzas. My cocktail and water still hadn't shown up, and I assumed they had simply been forgotten as well. The pizzas looked good and they were delicious. While we were eating our pizzas, a cocktail that looked like the one I ordered was dropped off at an empty table next to us. A few minutes after that - the girl who initially dropped it there, handed it to me and explained that the tables were out of order and this was actually my cocktail. At this point - I was beyond frustrated and I just said "whatever" and took the cocktail. As we were eating our pizzas, the man who dropped off our pizzas brought our appetizer. At this point we were so over this place that we told him we didn't want it. As we finished our pizzas, we had been there for almost two hours and just wanted to leave as soon as possible. I've never let poor service or bad food ruin an evening, but this was getting close to it.The waitress offered dessert and while I am a dessert junkie, we declined and she even offered it for free - we still said 'no thanks'. She apologized and told us that the tablets they use were at fault for the mix up. To sum it up, this place has everything going for it. The food, the ambiance, the cocktails are all great. BUT, as we know - the service is what makes a meal and this was some of the worst I've ever encountered. I'm pretty easy, but it was just one thing after another. Do yourself a favour and try some of Paris's other great Italian places. Baffo in the Marais is wonderful as are all the Big Mamma places ( Pizzeria Popolare, East Mama, Ober Mama ) are all great!"
