"visited with my wife on a Saturday night. I have booked a table about their website that was easy to do and received the confirmation quickly. first impression. we went in and were immediately greeted by the staff and sitting immediately, the restaurant is very small maybe 6 tables in the front room (not see the rear room) and 1 chef. the decor is simple but pleasant with quiet music in the background. the menu had a great variety, especially as there is only one cook. this has not, however, influenced the time it took to bring out our food. I ordered the prawn cocktail. that was massive! this was by far the largest brantee cocktail I've ever met, it was also very tasty, with a good mix or garnel, salad and sauce. if something is too big for a beginner. for the net we ordered the surf and turf and lamb shank. the filetsteak was ordered medium rare and came out to perfection with a very large garnish cooked up. the lamb was delicious, the meat just fell from the bone, eating everything was very well presented to a real creditworthiness for the chef. to dessert we decided to simply share some ice cream that is all made in the house. again it was delicious and I would visit again only for the ice garden! inexpensive I feel that £75 is a little expensive for 1 starter, 2 netzen, 1 dessert and a few drinks, but served for the quality and quantity I would pay happy again. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to everyone, I will definitely visit again! many thanks for a wonderful meal."

"Been several times (not by my choice) food mainly average. Specials on the board have been the same for years. Most dishes are cooked by chef Mic, I 'd say nothing is freshly prepared. Service is bad, it is like being a customer upsets them and they take it out on you. Last time myself and a friend went we were told we could have a table if we were quick as they were busy and had a booking on the table they sat us at. But then ignored us and served everyone around us, took ages to bring us our drinks. we watched the table that sat after us start their mains while we were waiting for our starters, the owner lady told us it was to do with the chef timings and intricacy of each dish (our starters were calamari and Bree, both out of a freezer bag) when our meal was over we tried to signal to the waitress for the bill but she also ignored us for nearly 20minutes, by this time my friend was ready to flip the table and kick off. Thankfully he didn 't and both agreed we will never return to this restaurant Edit: Everything I have written here is 100% my experience, not written for another establishment. No porkies, just facts. Your response confirms how you treat people who have spent money in you establishment. The brie starter is not on your menu anymore, congratulations on finally changing your menu, it was on the board as brie/camembert. Would you like another of my experiences in your establishment? I came in to book a table on behalf of my Aunt, I explained that as it was a particularly hot week that could we possibly have a seat near the door and my aunt would need a bit of space as she is a larger lady, you said absolutely, no problem at all when we turned up for our booking you sat us in front of the kitchen, my aunt said about going home for a Chinese and you laughed, it was not a joke, she was angry, yet we stayed, half way through our meal you moved us from the seat by the kitchen to the table we had asked for, and served us burnt pizzas. Edit: your responses to my experiences show your attitude toward customers. Both instances are 100% my experience, as are other reviews that I 've posted. We did voice how we felt at the time but were shrugged off or laughed at like we were joking. I only reviewed now as google popped up and asked me to, no other reason."

"We stayed at Ellenborough Park over the bank holiday weekend and I can only assume this was reflected in the room rate. Because we paid £450 per night for two nights, which would’ve been no problem if the experience was truly as described “a 5 star experience”. However the reality was far from it. The room was at best a 4 star with dirty net curtains, limescale on the taps, marks on the walls and blinds held together with cable ties!! The common areas were dirty, the carpets in particular were covered in crumbs throughout and there was just an overall lack of attention to detail. We headed to the spa which although small seemed to have a few nice facilities. However the jacuzzi looked dirty, with grouting missing, and tiles lying loose around the edge drawing attention to the fact that many were missing. We decided to visit the outdoor pool which was much worse. Again tiles missing at the entrance to the pool, with wet and soiled sun loungers and dirty plates left out. So we gave up. This left us little confidence in the dinner reservation we had booked for that evening so we cancelled it and ate out in Cheltenham instead. The breakfast was also an inelegant service with staff rushing around crashing plates and spilling tea over the table when it was served. We also witnessed a stomach churning exchange at breakfast where someone requested a replacement sausage (for an undercooked one) it was reluctantly brought out on a small plate and carelessly rolled onto the diner’s main plate for consumption. The reception staff were friendly and the exterior of the house and grounds are beautiful. The hotel has a lot of potential but unfortunately it overpromised and under delivered across the board. Had we paid closer to half of this amount, and the hotel rated appropriately as 4 stars I would not be writing this, but for £900 it was extremely poor overall and we feel ripped off. It goes without saying we will not be returning."
