"visited with my wife on a Saturday night. I have booked a table about their website that was easy to do and received the confirmation quickly. first impression. we went in and were immediately greeted by the staff and sitting immediately, the restaurant is very small maybe 6 tables in the front room (not see the rear room) and 1 chef. the decor is simple but pleasant with quiet music in the background. the menu had a great variety, especially as there is only one cook. this has not, however, influenced the time it took to bring out our food. I ordered the prawn cocktail. that was massive! this was by far the largest brantee cocktail I've ever met, it was also very tasty, with a good mix or garnel, salad and sauce. if something is too big for a beginner. for the net we ordered the surf and turf and lamb shank. the filetsteak was ordered medium rare and came out to perfection with a very large garnish cooked up. the lamb was delicious, the meat just fell from the bone, eating everything was very well presented to a real creditworthiness for the chef. to dessert we decided to simply share some ice cream that is all made in the house. again it was delicious and I would visit again only for the ice garden! inexpensive I feel that £75 is a little expensive for 1 starter, 2 netzen, 1 dessert and a few drinks, but served for the quality and quantity I would pay happy again. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to everyone, I will definitely visit again! many thanks for a wonderful meal."

"I think I have been spoilt abroad because in Berlin and Vienna, I not only had some of the best Italian food I've eaten outside of Italy, but I also had two of the best restaurant experiences I've had in my entire life, full-stop, out...of any kind of restaurant. When you find such an Italian restaurant, you want to go back, but sadly Berlin or Vienna is a long way to go just for Saturday dinner! Fast forward to a little getaway to the West Country, and we found ourselves next door to the pretty town of Tewkesbury so booked Salerno based on the great reviews. Being half-Italian myself, I am always going to be highly critical of Italian food, but I must admit that all the dishes eaten were very nice...we had a Caprese and Antipasti for 1 for starters followed by a Margherita pizza and Rigatoni Salmone for mains, all very tasty, decent portions and well cooked. The affogato finished my meal off nicely. This was all washed down with a lovely bottle of Lo Zoccolaio Barolo, which at £46 was a fair price for a premium wine. So far so good. Now, I accept that the restaurant was full and busy, and there are Covid concerns but my downside came from the service experience. While it is clearly a popular local restaurant and has a great reputation, whenever I go to an Italian restaurant they always pick up on the fact that I'm Italian, the obvious giveaway being my name when I reserved the table and when I first arrive there. I also expect engaging service at any restaurant, so that I feel loved and like I can have a bit of banter. And finally, as is so typical of an independent Mediterranean restaurant, the fun part comes when they offer you a free shot of something, whether it be limoncello, ouzo or grappa! Ultimately, it's the little thank you, that frankly costs a business around 50-60p at most, but gets loyalty and happy clients every time. Even a couple of shots of espresso would suffice which again would cost about 20-30p in total to the owners! Far be it for me to tell a business how they should run, but times are tough for any business, and it's these tiny little touches that differentiate a business for me, and frankly these are touches which could be integrated into the menu pricing anyway, just add 25p to each dish and nobody would even notice! Honestly, the service was cold, not especially attentive and frankly just disinterested...they didn't do anything wrong, and I'm still giving a 4/5 as the food wine was great and the atmosphere was nice because the place was full, but it still erks me overall as great family service is what Italian restaurants are all about, and if you don't have that, you may as well be a rubbish, soulless Prezzo or Pizza Express. Would I recommend the food here...absolutely! Would I recommend dining here or would I return myself...sadly no!"

"A return visit for us that was so utterly disappointing in so many ways. I shall start from the beginning: 1. The waitress wanted to take our drinks order before we had even sat down, I asked her to give us a few moments to get settled and lol at the menu. Said waitress then completely forgot about us until we flagged her down 20 mins later. 2. Our toddler daughter has severe food allergies. I’d read online that you can ask for the allergy binder to see what allergens are in each of the food items. We received this binder without fuss, and ordered her a children’s meal that was safe to eat. When it came time to order dessert, we asked the waitress (different lady who was now serving us) for the binder. She went away and came back a few minutes later and told us there was no such binder. We explained we had already looked through it for the main, so it absolutely does exist. She went away again and came back, saying her manager wouldn’t let us see the binder as the information is out of date. I was absolutely horrified. Our daughter had already eaten her main meal that we had ordered on the basis that the information in the binder was correct. FOOD ALLERGIES ARE NOT A JOKE!!! 3. After placing our food order, we waited an hour and 15 minutes for it to come. We had asked for our daughters meal to come first, as soon as it was ready. This didn’t happen, we had one very hangry toddler on our hands. There was no apology for the serious delay in our food being served. 4. My brother ordered a burger which was so overcooked and burnt, it was completely inedible, he managed to eat a quarter of it before giving up. He took it out of the bun and it was so black, it looked like a lump of coal. My mum ordered the pork roast, the meat was so fatty it made her feel ill, and put her off the rest of her meal. No one ever came over to us to check how our meal was. They also didn’t ask how it was when they came to take our plates. 5. When we asked for the bill, it was taken to the wrong table, who said it wasn’t their bill, but that they were ready to receive their bill. The server then went on to serve those customers, and never bothered to bring our bill. After dealing with the large party who wanted to split their bill about 10 ways, we eventually managed to flag the waiter down, who nonchalantly said ‘oh that’s whose bill it was’. We’d been waiting at least another 20 minutes. My family had travelled 2 hours to visit for lunch, to celebrate my birthday. The whole experience left me totally embarrassed that I’d picked such an awful place to take them and I couldn’t wait to leave. After this absolutely dire experience, we won’t be back."

"My friend and I were walking the Cotswold Way and had called into the tourist information centre and they recommended this place for lunch. It was fairly busy but only one person in front of me at the counter. My friend took a seat and I waited at the counter to order. I was then told very abruptly to ask my friend to move from the table and sit on the 2 seats in the window. I was told the table we had chosen was for 4 people! My friend moved to the window to find the seats were high bar stools. We had been walking for 10 miles and the thought of sitting on high stools did not appeal. So my friend found another table which was 2 seats which looks more comfortable. The very rude Middle Aged lady serving caused a scene by shouting across to my friend telling her not to sit there. She then pointed to the sign and very rudely told me I am supposed to wait when all I had done was stand and wait to order. We just gathered our things and walked out. They obviously didn’t like the fact we were walkers and had rucksacks taking up space in their small cafe area. I was very shocked and can honestly say I have never experienced such bad customer service. Fortunately we found a lovely bakery round the corner who even though they were busy found us seats and we had a delicious lunch there. I would avoid this place like the plague. I was not surprised to read very similar reviews of this place. It seems they have no idea how to serve people!"
