"I normally visit Starbucks but in the interest of supporting local businesses I visited this cafe on Friday and had their jacket potato special which is advertised on the A board outside. I visited on Monday and ordered food off the menu, the menu also advertises 30% off for NHS staff which the waitress processed for me on the Monday. Today I visited and the lady taking my order informed me the jacket potato special was unavailable although advertised on the A board outside. I proceeded to order off the normal menu, showed my badge and asked to receive the 30% off for NHS staff. The lady serving me was unable to use the calculator to work out how much it would cost so I helped her, paid the bill and sat at a table. The lady approached my table to inform me I owed her money as it should have been 20% off for NHS staff, not 30%. I showed her the menu which stated 30% off and told her I received 30% off on my previous two recent visits. The lady insisted it had always been 20% off and walked off to the kitchen. I could hear her discussing the situation loudly in the kitchen and didn’t appreciate her behaviour, tone of voice or attitude towards customers. I went to the counter and asked for my money back as I didn’t wish to sit in the cafe and eat any longer. The lady told me she didn’t know how to process a refund to my card and shrugged her shoulders and blanked stared at me. I demanded my refund to which she gave me my refund in cash. Although it was only a dispute between a difference of 10% discount I won’t be visiting again. The advertising is incorrect on the menu and rather than this be acknowledged and corrected, I experienced such bad behaviour from a lady which seemed like she was the owner. I’d rather visit Starbucks and pay more for my food and be treated well than visit this local business and be treated badly."

"After not going into this place since it changed hands ages ago I took my partner in one day to enquire about gluten free food being available. They were in the middle of being refurbished and they said when it was done they would have the biggest working kitchen in Wigan. Also that they would have an EXTENSIVE GLUTEN FREE MENU. So we waited... And not long ago after being gifted Christmas money I suggested going to sample the food there. I rang up, talked to a lady who verified that what I had been told about having a decent number of gluten free options was true and to come in to try. We were informed when asking the staff about these options upon arrival there were tons and all clearly marked out on the menu... After sitting down with our drinks we discovered this was TOTALLY UNTRUE. I asked again if they had a separate menu for this as the only thing labelled was VEGAN and VEGETARIAN options and they apologised saying that one of the staff would show me the dishes (that were not marked on anything as she ate gluten free as a preference) and there were TWO MAIN MEAL OPTIONS. Possibly two starters as I recall. The starter was good, the main which consisted of steak and homemade chips was rather bland. I didn 't finish it. My partner had the Beer Macaroni with Cornbread and was also very disappointed... It was like cake in texture I could see it myself (he said it was sweet and cake like in taste too) and was covered in garlic (this wasn 't I don 't think stated on the menu nor usually part of Cornbread in general)... I was willing to give it a try even though the information given about the vast gluten free menu was not at all true and looked to be confused with vegan/vegetarian food hoping that the food would be good but it really isn 't anything great. I was gutted to have used my money on this as other great restaurants in town that always deliver great quality and many options for me were all open at this point and I wish I hadn 't been totally misinformed into going to the Oak. In future I will go in for the odd drink but not for food. Nor would I recommend the quality of it... PLEASE, for goodness sake train the staff in the difference between gluten free and vegan food options as you really could ruin someone 's night out and waste their time and money. Such a shame as I have through many many years gone here for gatherings and social occasions. Hope someone finds this helpful."
