"The reason this isn't one star is Shona the waitress who deserves better than this graveyard of a restaurant. Food was absolutely the lowest quality stuff I've ever encountered. We ordered steaks that were fatty, tough and terribly cooked (not seasoned, cooked at too low a temperature) the ploughman's sharer is basically stuff from Tesco's warmed up and served with the cheapest sort of bread. We'd have brought it up but frankly it's clear your chef can't do better so what's the point. Oh, we ordered pulled pork that wasn't. I suspect it was leftovers. Not sure the chef knows what pulled pork is. Another thing while we're at it, the other guy who bought our wine didn't even bother to open it. The place had four tables on a Saturday night, and one of them was complaining about the food to the staff all night. Maybe the reason this is the emptiest restaurant in Lichfield is because it has an old fashioned menu and quality that would shame a Wetherspoons. Will never return ."

In general, this restaurant was decent, but there were a few minor annoyances such as the staff appearing distracted and being slow to serve, clear plates, or bring the bill. The wine prices were really high at £29 per bottle, which seemed excessive. The food, however, was tasty.

I decided to treat us to a carvery for our Sunday lunch. I had seen good reviews about the George so chose to go there. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. The beef was fatty and tough and the vegetables were all mediocre. Really expected better. Have had better at cheaper chain of carvery pubs!

We came here last night for a friends birthday and we were impressed with the food. We had the Kiev and cottage pie which was homemade and tasted lovely. Our starters were mackerel pate and soup and again these were lovely. It’s pub grub but made well. Service for drinks was a bit slow but the staff were friendly.

Booked for Sunday carvery at 2pm, probably too late as the salad starter buffet was a diminished tired looking mess, although we were offered soup. The carvery was still very fresh and enjoyable. There were plenty of staff on but they ignored us most of the time.We could not get any ones attention for the bill, so decided to attract their attention by walking out, this did work. This was our third visit this year, but decided we wouldn't go back again.

We visited for dinner 17.02.24 What a lovely meal we enjoyed. The food was delicious, it was presented well, served hot and tasted divine. We could tell the ingredients were fresh and of good quality. Special thanks to our waitress Lilly, who was polite, friendly and made us feel very welcome. She took our orders and our requests, nothing was too much trouble. She was attentive to our table ensuring we were served and cleared after each course at just the right time. Thank you all, we will be back again soon.

I recently had a reason to complain about a previous Sunday lunch, but I was pleased to find that the Manager, Simon, had taken my comments on board. I had mentioned that green vegetables are a necessary component of Sunday lunch, and this time they were included (unlike the previous occasion). However, I was still slightly disappointed by the cold starters buffet as there was no smoked salmon, pasta or rice salads, and the prawns were small in their containers. Nevertheless, the main dishes made up for this with delicious, tender, and generous servings of meat and poultry. We did not try the desserts, but they looked appealing. I will definitely return if the high standards are maintained....

Overall a good visit to The George. We were in Lichfield for a concert at the cathedral. Even though we live locally, my wife booked us in for an overnight stay with breakfast the following morning. We had dinner before the concert, and initially we were despondent when the waitress told us there were several items on the menu that were unavailable. However, the choices we made sausage and mash lamb hotpot) were very nice, so no complaints. Self serve breakfast the day after was very good with plenty of choice of continental and cooked. We have been to The George many times over the years, usually for a glass of wine after a mooch round town, and it’s always a pleasant experience. This time...

To start, the restaurant was uncomfortably hot with many closed windows. It would be beneficial to open them, even if they are fixed shut. Additionally, we requested a wine menu but none was available. It would be helpful to have handwritten copies available for customers. When inquiring about a child's option for the carvery, we were informed that there was none. It might be considerate to offer a discounted option for children under 5. In terms of the food, the cabbage was overcooked and the mashed potatoes had a crust. There were limited vegetarian and fish options available. Despite some setbacks, our server was kind and helpful. Overall, the experience could have been improved with some...
