"My husband had booked dinner for us to celebrate my 75th birthday and was told that if the weather was nice, we could dine from the a la carte menu outside, as we had done on previous occasions. However, when we arrived, we were informed that outside seating was reserved for wedding guests only. We were seated in the Camellis restaurant, which was initially very quiet. We were given a set menu and when we asked for the a la carte menu, we were told it was not available. Unfortunately, there was nothing on the starter menu that my husband could eat, and the dish I ordered was not to my liking. The main course was okay, but the portion was quite small. We decided to leave before dessert, as it became too crowded. We were extremely disappointed with how our evening on June 19th turned out, especially since we had been looking forward to it for some time. If it weren't for the considerable deposit we had already paid, we would not have stayed for the meal. Although we had always been satisfied with our dining experiences here in the past, we will not be returning."

We were lucky enough to be given a gift of afternoon tea. The voucher lasts for 12 months.

We were invited by a friend to afternoon tea here just recently. A previous experience was poor and this was no exception.

Everything done with perfection, great details in the cakes and everything served during the afternoon tea. The house and the surroundings also look amazing.

My friends and I recently enjoyed a delightful afternoon tea at South Lodge. Despite having visited a few years ago, we were pleased to find that the service and food quality were still exceptional. The staff did a great job of accommodating a vegan option, which was both plentiful and delicious. Special thanks to Callum, who provided excellent customer service and made our experience even more enjoyable. We can't wait to visit again in the future.

Today we had a really delicious Afternoon Tea. Our previous experience back in February was totally different which put us off, however we returned today and so glad we did.We were seated in a beautiful lounge and served tasty sandwiches, three fresh scones (plain, fruit and cinnamon) with cream and variety of jams, interesting selection of cakes and hot coffee!! More sandwiches, scones and coffee were offered too. The staff were busy, but polite and helpful. The hotel is in a lovely setting.

I was given a voucher for my birthday from my son. So obviously my husband joined me one wet afternoon in August. Although we have been to south lodge several times for evening meals and have always said that it was 1st class but oh dear what an awful afternoon tea! I asked if I could have a ham sandwich without mustard and the waitress said no the sandwiches were already prepped. Not customer friendly! I have had several afternoon teas at other establishments and never have been refused for a sandwich to be made and to be honest the truffle egg rolls with onion powder were disgusting! The only good part was the scones with home made jams. Not what I expect from south lodge Speisekarte ansehen

On arrival, a waiter left 2 menus and disappeared. He returned and asked us ‘what we wanted’. My daughter was puzzled. I knew about the choice of teas but hadn’t explained this to her. In fairness, I didn’t think it was my job! I said that we would also like the wine. On pouring it into my daughter’s glass, he poured it so fast that it fountained over the top and went over the table. It was mopped up with my daughter’s napkin she was told that a fresh one would be brought. It wasn’t! Next, we each received 3 tiny sandwiches and the waiter didn’t know what was in the battered savoury; he thought it was cauliflower. My daughter confirmed that it was. We were told that we could have unlimited r...

Ive had a voucher for over 2 years now due to covid and the team were great it letting me keep pushing it! We finally visited the week before Christmas just gone and what can I say. I was apprehensive after reading some reviews/lack of reviews however it was 10/10. Service was impeccable, the food was moreish and stunning (the sausage roll and egg brioche were our favs! and the fact its unlimited sandwiches make its all the better! The sweet treats werent all to my taste but are they ever all exactly what someone would like? But they looked beautiful and you could tell there was a lot of work and effort that went into them! The atmosphere was delightful and we had stunning views of the garde...

"My mother and I had been following the Masterchef Pro comp ' last year and were really keen to sample some of the winner, Tom Hamblet 's, food. We travelled a 4 hour round trip for the experience. We don 't eat at fine dining restaurants often but we are foodies. Firstly, the setting of the restaurant is very lavish and comfortable with warm low lighting. That said, the dinner experience was a little too dark for my mother so that 's something to think about if you struggle with eyesight and low lighting. The service was friendly, attentive and speedy/efficient. The food: I 'll start with the dessert because that was a real pleasure for us. We both loved the flavours of Tom 's end of series winning dessert so the meal ended on a high (we ordered the Olive Oil sponge with lemon curd). I recommend not ruining your palette with the overly sweet petit four that are placed in front of you following dessert unfortunately ours were more sugar flavoured than any other identifiable flavour. Our starters and mains were very VERY underwhelming. They arrived looking beautiful, neat and tidy but failed to deliver on taste. I had wanted the celeriac themed starter but the waiting staff told me the vegan/veggie starters and mains were created by their head chef and not Tom. That was disappointing as his 3 month residency was the reason we 'd visited the restaurant. We ended up both having the lobster starters after the waiting staff recommended it highly as either a starter or an additional dish to share. The claw meat was minimal and tough and the foam mousse took centre stage on the plate. Whilst the plate had lots of textures to it, we felt it was unbalanced and generally with no 'wow ' to it. We enjoyed the coffee and rye bread with butter and pollen/fennel that came prior to this thought. I ordered the Guinea Fowl as a main after the waiter described it as a gamey, dark and tender meat. I feel like a better description to someone that hasn 't had guinea fowl before would be 'it 's like a chicken breast with a different flavour '. This is what arrived in front of me and I actually found it was quite dry and not dark at all! I would never have ordered anything that resembled chicken breast anyway so I felt ill informed about my choice. I also thought the girolles were overwhelmingly tart. I didn 't enjoy my main. Mum 's Hogget was nice but average for her too. Last comment I 've never in my life paid £6.50 for less than 1.5ltrs mineral water beware! I don 't care how much money you have it 's water!!!"
