Good choices on menu with variety to suit all tastes. Helpful and friendly service. Food was well cooked and well presented.

Not bad if you stick to the basics, but don't expect gourmet food here! The dishes we had were all a little tired, which is a shame as Lanouaille is in an area stuffed with wonderful local ingredients. There is no excuse for not serving the freshest vegetables or the best meats.

With temperatures in the high thirties I found a suitably shaded table to try their 12 Euro plat de jour. Excellent avocado starter followed by delicately cooked fish course, cheese and dessert followed. Service wasn't with a smile but in those temperatures? I've read other comments but the meal seemed fair value to me. The tour de Dordogne cycle race whizzed past as I dined, adding a frisson of excitement from fellow diners.

As it was Saturday we could not have the 12euro menu de jour and chose the 19euro menu. I have to say that the steak we had there with pepper sauce was one of the best we had during our month long stay in France. It was pink, extremely tender, really tasty and I would recommend it to anyone.

For 45 euros or 58 euros (master suite) you can stay in this simple but hospitable auberge. You will have a comfy bed, great house cleaning service, kind auberge owner, simple but good breakfast and a good shower. By no means a luxury hotel but for what it is trying to be - it is a perfect place for a stop off. Nearby you can try the delicious food and lovely views of the restaurant at the Base de Loisirs in Rouffiac - without a doubt the nicest restaurant in the area. Speisekarte ansehen
