Auberge du Val au Cesne

From the moment you arrive you are made to feel very welcome. A walk through the gardens to our room was like something out of a fairy tale it is really pretty. We had booked a half board which was extremely good value for...money but think when we come again we will take advantage of the a la carte menu. It is very easy to find this beautiful place and we will certainly return next year

we received a warm, friendly reception and were shown in our table on the very nice ground floor restaurant. the menu was full of regional specialties and the child's offer on chickens and kartoffels was delicious. we enjoyed our lunch and the children loved walking. in the garden meet the ducks and chickens. the way from the autoroute on the way back to the tunnel. we will definitely return.

We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and the children loved wandering...in the garden meeting the ducks and hens. Worth the detour from the autoroute on our way back to the Tunnel. a traditional looking auberge, which looks like it can resist the time march confidently. we arrived on a Sunday evening, starving, missed the lunch earlier on the day. the dining room is traditional and formal, but not unfriendly. we enjoyed the pre-dinner mouse...bouche, did not try to dedicate the delicious baguette before our main courses came, tornados and refugees, with a guide to a cauliflower-based dish. everything was delicious. we couldn't resist the cheeseboard a fantastic selection of cheese. desserts were probably the weakest part of the experience, but still good. service was very attentive, but friendly.

The food we had was excellent. As we were on half board at the auberge we were not offered the a la carte which would have been nice (and paid the difference) but just given a couple of choices for the courses. But the food...was well presented, well cooked, hot and delicious. The fresh bread with the butter from the farm across the lane was lovely. The meringues stuffed with mango sorbet and chantilley cream were to die for!! Dining room an experience with lots of quirky bric a brac all around. Lovely open log fire gave a homely feel and for a very bad evening weather wise with deep snow the restaurant was busy with local French people so a good sign. Auberge du Val au Cesne comes up No. 1 under hotels in Yvetot, out of two. But why isn 't is No. 1 under restaurants? I doubt the the burger joint which is at the top comes anywhere close to this imaginative cuisine, except perhaps in...price. So, if you want to have a wonderful four-course dinner for 27 euros, Val au Cesne is only 5 km from Yvetot (follow the signs from the roundabout at the Leclerc supermarket). And since the Auberge has 5 quaint bedrooms, stay the night if you have wine with your meal. This is a great jumping-off spot for exploring inland Normandy, and the farm-like setting (donkeys, chickens, caged birds, dogs and a friendly cat) and charming hosts make it worth every Eu...

Once again, I have to say that it is always a really good sign when you visit a restaurant and find the same people in charge years after years ! With the same professionalism ............ L 'Auberge is one of these local restaurants where food is...not only a business ! Very friendly welcome from the owner, lovely romantic location and an excellent menu du jour that a few other restaurants could easily copy ! Traditional French dishes (mainly Normand style with crème), a large selection of wines (some can be pretty expensive though), home cooked bread and salty butter of the best quality to start. a cozy, black irradiated room with open log fire that shared the room, set the scene for our dinner. the table, beautifully laid with tablecloth and linen serviettes was a tasteful setting for what is considered a pleasant, if rather fill meal. after a long journey our ricard aperitifs were well received, as were the “Amuses Bouches”. madame and I were in our choice of the escaped ones; a typical French dish of tete de veau, kalbs zunge and sweetbreads served with a delicious sauce ravigote. it was a generous part and my ess mate would have preferred a smaller portion, especially as she had chosen a main course of guinea fowl. my turbot on sorrel sauce proved to be easier option and nicely c...
