"Great little pub in the middle of nowhere. Tortuous country lane to get there but well worth it. With family stayed locally for a week and ate here 3 times out of 7 nights. Without doubt the best food we had all week. The main attraction is the steak pie....also the steak pie, and more especially the steak pie. Without doubt the best, absolutly the best pie we have ever had anywhere. It would win awards. Perfect pastry (top and bottom) full of succulent meat (no sludge), gravy to die for. I think you get the picture. I hope the same ladlord and landlay are still there and they continue their great food. Especially their pies."

A cosy, warm pub on a very cold and icy evening. Friendly welcome. Food was excellent. All home cooked and great value for money. Will definitely be back.

Nice old pub. Good selection of NA beers as well as regular beers. Food was nice enough, but my wife was disappointed with the fish finger ciabatta. There didn't seem to be wifi or mobile phone coverage either, at least in the garden. Speisekarte ansehen

Current owners have done a great job smartening this old pub up. Cosy and warm. Service was excellent with very friendly lady looking after us, a party of 12. Lovely home-cooked food, we all enjoyed the evening and were made to feel very welcome. Many thanks.

Delightful pub/restaurant that we are lucky to have as one of our locals. Menu is small which means it’s all freshly cooked, with plenty of choice and good size portions. My friend and I had the fish pie which was delicious, hubby had tagine. It’s a little hidden gem. Speisekarte ansehen

Had Sunday lunch and was very satisfied with the roast beef and all the trimmings. Summer pudding dessert was lovely. Good real ale (Hobson's) Only downside was that we were stuck on our own in a room, so no atmosphere. Pub is in beautiful countryside and worth the trip.

A tremendous Village Inn I visited in a group of 9 friends for dinner Everything was excellent The staff were friendly attentive and efficient The food is homemade and was agreed by all to be really excellent and served quickly and piping hot There is a good selection of beers on the bar and a good wine list. We shall be back!

"Beautifull hotel, I guess one can call it trendy , but I just don 't understand how they can justify the price £130/night and that most of the time will go to £160 as they run out of entry level ones. So I guess the answer is there because people pay for it! But let 's just make some relevant comparisons Birmingham Grand literally in the heart of the city, brand new, 5* hotel, with all recently decorated rooms to the highest standard is £135 15 for breakfast. Needless to say rooms are air conditioned, fully equipped and genuinelly very posh. Hotel has lifts, has porters and the service is top notch. The Lion is barelly 4* just for trendiness alone, but the actual quality of furnishing is closer to 3*, has no lift and you will be lugging your bags up and down mutiple flights of stairs (and I mean multiple like 8 going up and down) trought narrow corridors to mediocre room (nothing wrong with it just mediocre) which isn 't even air conditioned. Sorry, I just don 't get it. That said restaurant is good fully fine dining if you are into it. Althought in my oppinion it doesn 't fit into the rest of the hotel. So it is ~3.5* hotel which is very youghtfull and trendy and then you get 5* fine dining with very tiny portions for the dinner (which is not criticism of restaurant, it is very good on it 's own). In conclussion I just don 't get what niche this hotel is filling, who stays there and why. The price for the rooms should be £75 95 tops. Shreesbury is not exactly prime tourists destination either (at least shouldn 't). But it seems it is working out for them, I just would not recommend it, I would not stay in it again and it is definatelly not worth the price. Neither in isolation, nor in comparison."

"Open since 1970 and located on Mardol, one of Shrewsbury’s oldest streets @thecurryhouseshrewsbury serves locally sourced ingredients married with traditional spices and chillies from the Indian subcontinent, a match made in heaven. 5 5 Recommended Price No better way to kick off proceedings but with popadoms, chutneys and fresh onion salad. On to appetisers and there are so many tempting dishes to choose with many of these exclusive to the curry house. Our first time trying Pani Puri. A sweet and spicy hot street food snack filled with chickpeas and tamarind sat on a bed of crunchy, nutty Bombay mix. With a building but pleasant heat, definitely something everyone should try. The quality and freshness of the seafood was exceptional. Spicy king prawns were huge and cooked to perfection. Charred on the outside for flavour but juicy and meaty. Trio of King scallops were beautifully tender and of a good size with sweetness from the tamarind liquor. Lamb rogan Josh tender lamb shoulder in a medium hot ginger tomato and onion sauce. A strong take on a traditional favourite of ours. Fresh from the Tandoor a generous mix of marinaded chicken, lamb, king prawns and a chargrilled lamb chop. The Tandoori deluxe massalla sauce was the perfect blend of sweetness melting into a subtle heat which brought the dish together perfectly. The curry house takes traditional dishes and flavours from the Indian subcontinent and elevates them to a level beyond expectations. Thank you for our invite to share the exciting menu created with passion and creativity. If you are looking for a curry house with a difference this is the place for you. #theshropshirefoodies #foodblog #foodstagram #shrewsbury #shropshire #restaurantreview #foodjournal #foodblogger #instafood"

"Fantastic range of small dishes and meals for lunch and dinner. The menu ranges from scandi to oriental, so something for everyone. The menu is clearly marked with allergens, including what meals can be adapted. The chicken is halal and vegan and vegetarian options are plentiful. The cocktail and mocktail menu is great and they do one of the best espresso martinis in Shrewsbury. The decor is modern and comfortable and there is plenty of space. As a wheelchair user, I can get into the ground floor and to a table. The outside seats are up a small step, but the whole front of the building is a retractable wall of windows, so I can still get the feeling of eating outside in good weather. The service is friendly and knowledgeable about allergies, the menu and the wine list. The staff are helpful and unobtrusive. The only difficulty for me (hence the 4 star review) is that the accessible bathroom is next door, in their sister bar, Libertine. Unfortunately, libertine isn't open the same hours as HotRS, so I can only use it at certain times. The ladies does have a lock on the door, so staff have cleared the ladies toilets, which allowed me to take my chair in and lock the door. I had to walk a couple of steps to get into a stall but my chair was safely with me. Of course, there is also no alarm cord, but they stood outside the door so would have heard if I shouted for help."
