"We have been to Saint Raphael many times and have walked by this little restaurant several times. We finally made a point to dine there and it was an enjoyable evening. It is tiny and you do need reservations. We saw several people turned away and this was a cool night in October not the height of the season. It is local and it is VERY French. The menu needs some research if you are not an adventurous foodie and don't speak French. I had soup which was amazing and my husband had something we had not researched - no idea what it was!! It is very casual, you pick your wine yourself from a wall of shelves of well stocked/well priced French wines. Take it to your table and they will open and pour it. Dinner was boeuf toranado which was really just filet mignon with a very rich sauce served with frites. I wish I'd ordered the lamb shanks as it seems really easy to overdue it with so many "rich" items on the menu. My only other worthwhile comment is you need to set you own "pace". If you order immediately you may find your experience feels rushed. We had very little time to relax with our wine before our starters arrived however in fairness I think you would feel most welcome to linger after dinner. (We were too full and needed to move around!) I would suggest either taking your time to order or at the very least tell them (in French as there is essentially NO English spoken) you are not in a hurry :)Desserts looked stunning and huge! 3 courses are likely impossible!! Very nice experience overall and a lovely intimate restaurant."

We went there with two adults and two kids and enjoyed a very pleasant French dinner. Food, atmosphere and service is very nice and justifies a slightly higher price. It is off the main tourist stream, just go there and enjoy

My wife found this little gem of a restaurant on Trip Advisor whilst we were staying in St. Raphael. We turned up without booking but they had a table for the 4 of us. The food was amazingly good. It's a very traditional and quite small French restaurant but well worth a visit!

Amongst many ordinary tourist restaurants in St Raphael this one stands out above the rest. Tucked away behind the station it has real character and local atmosphere. Very friendly host and an individual décor. The menu is short but has enough variety to suit most tastes although probably not for kids. Food quality is good but not gastronomic and portion sizes are very big. Certainly worth a visit.

A proper French dining experience in a small, friendly wine bar/restaurant. I had a lovely glass of red wine and lamb cooked on the bone with a beautiful sauce. The only thing I would say is, make sure that your child is willing to eat normal 'grown up' food though as there is no special options for children. Fine for our son as he is not fussy but don't go if your child will only eat chicken nuggets!

During two weeks we had dinner there 3 times. Nice and friendly service and very relaxed ambiance. They serve lovely slices of charcuterie and little grissini when you sit down. Try rosé with pamplemousse juice as an aperitif. The menu is small, but nice. Recommend the gazpacho and the tournedos or lamb shanks. Don't forget to try the local red wine Font du Broc. If you want it "frais"( colder than room temp), they normally have a bottle in the wine cabinet.

Whouldn't have walked in the restaurant as a passer by- the exterior does not stand out and it is on a very small street, but thanks to good reviews here, decided to try out.Even though off season and on a Wednesday it was full and unless a reservation was made you could not get a table. The host (who i suspect was the owner) did not speak English, but despite that he vas vibrant, friendly and somehow we managed to understand what type of ingredients were hiding behind each dish.We had ravioli starters, fish, gambas and an apple pie. Everything was excellent quality, especially gambas. We liked the atmosphere, food, service.

We are staying in St Raphael for a few weeks having been here over many years and Chez Gaston is definitely one of the best local restaurants. We had the tuna carpaccio and foie gras to start with followed by the camerones (large langoustes) and the lamb, which a lot of other reviewers have mentioned, What makes the restaurant stand out are the service and the quality of the ingredients. This is a definite cut above the many tourist restaurants in the town and I can say this having sampled many of them over the years. They make a big thing of the fact that everything is home made, from fresh ingredients and this does indeed seem to be the case. I am a big wine lover and it is also worth ment...

If you are ever in the area you must seek this resteraunt out and eat here. The ambience, the food and the staff are simply first notch. We found it quite by mistake having wondered arounf the small port town looking for somewhere to eat. Away from the beaten tourist path and away from the sea front you must seek it out. We went when it was a little out of season, so getting a seat was easy during the week, I suggest this would be hard to do during the tourist season. The resteraunt is small but quaint and has a great atmosphere. The owner was very welcoming and made a real effort to make us feel welcome. He took the time to explain the dishes on the menu to us in english and how the dishes...
