"We ate a late lunch here as a family of 4 last weekend. We were in a bit of a rush as we had to catch a train, and the food did arrive very quickly. I think to pay £9.95 for a halloumi wrap with salad is a bit on the pricey side and would’ve expected a few fries to be included at that price. The souvlaki salad and grilled chicken mayo sandwich were both really over-seasoned unfortunately. On a positive note, the staff are very polite and helpful."

"Took 1hr 20mins to get main course after starter. Potions getting smaller as service went on proving kitchen incapable of coping with number of covers. The main we recieved was almost child's potions with virtually no meat and very soggy coliflower. Staff very unhelpful as they were being put under undue pressure. "Wonderful meal on a Saturday evening when we were staying in the area for the first time. A very welcoming atmosphere when we arrived: lots of family groups with children, all clearly enjoying their food. Service was very friendly and efficient. We shared an antipasto platter for a starter all good, and my only regret was that I hadn't ordered a plate of the arancini all to myself. For mains, we had various pasta and pizzas all very good (especially the spaghetti carbonara), and a cut above anything similar that we've had for a long time. For sweets, the tiramisu and affogato tia maria were delicious. Lovely meal, and lovely too to see an independent restaurant so busy and popular."

"Food and beer were excellent, service attentive and friendly. No real issues at all. Used to go to the Squirrel for family lunches after walks in Penn Woods but hadn't been for a while. The refurbishment seems to be a relatively simple makeover rather than a huge upgrade, but it all works very well. The pub feels warm and welcoming, the food is more interesting than before and all in all it's a really good step forward. Food wise there were 5 of us and we had a reasonable selection from the menu pork belly bites, parsnip and sweet potato soup, crispy gnocchi, avocado and crab pot, butternut squash and sage ravioli for starters. All were excellent and were eaten in full (always a good sign). The only comment was that the chestnuts accompanying the ravioli were served cold maybe better to be seared a little? For mains we had trout, the buttermilk chicken burger, mushroom pie and spiced aubergine dishes again all very much enjoyed. Drinks were good also decent Tring Brewery ale well conditioned and poured, and an interesting range of non alcoholic cocktails we did try the Seascape but thought it was a bit bland. All in all an excellent Saturday lunch!"

"My husband is a steak lover and I’m a vegetarian with coeliac and I was really pleased seeing an allergens menu with plenty of options! We visited on a Monday which had a bring your own wine deal. Our waitress Daniela was incredible with noting allergens and we were given complimentary bread to begin; some of the softest and tastiest GF bread I’ve ever had. For mains I had a beyond burger which was great however the bun was a little cold and smaller than the burger which kept slipping out. I also had the creamed spinach was excellent! For dessert I got the creme brûlée which was served in a martini glass and my husband got the warm pecan pie which he absolutely loved. Overall I had a fantastic experience here; the service was brilliant, food was great and the setting and atmosphere was perfect for a date night."
