"Firstly I want to say the food we had at the Farmers Arms last night was very good and I have no issue with the quality. However the experience we received from a staff member was unacceptable. I booked a table for 4 two weeks...ago as I knew it was bank holiday weekend and it would be busy. I also completely understand the pressures our hospitality industry goes through at this time of year, living locally. I arrived with my friends and waited to be allocated our reserved table. It’s was extremely busy (as expected) and the man behind to bar and a lady that worked there were clearly having issues around tables already. Eventually I was spoken to and I advised I had a reservation. Unfortunately he could find my reservation either on the sheets of paper he had or in the diary. He apologised as said he would sort a table. He showed us to a table and asked if it would be ok. We said it was fine. There were only 3 chairs at the table and so I turned round to take one of the chairs from the empty table behind us. The lady wearing a yellow dress, came storming over and shouted “don’t take that, that table is reserved”. I explained we had also reserved a table and she shouted back “this table isn’t reserved” pointing at the table we were about to sit at. My friend then tried to explain we’d been asked to sit here and she screamed back at the top of her voice “don’t speak to me like that, I don’t have to take this”. To say we were completely dumbfounded would be an understatement. She stormed off, came back with a chair and plonked it down. So we sat down at which point she returned with a condiment set and almost threw it on the table and walked off. We had been to the Farmers Arms a couple of times before but pre Covid. I couldn’t remember if we previously ordered at the bar or not but no one explained that was how we ordered. We just had to find out ourselves. To be honest, if it hadn’t of been bank holiday weekend in the height of the season, I would have walked out there and then but finding availability elsewhere would have been almost impossible. I can honestly say I have never come across such an obnoxious person working on a restaurant/pub in Cornwall before. I worked with the general public all my life and you never speak to customers in that manner no matter what pressures you may be under. I know over the last couple of years we have had some undesirable holidaymakers in Newquay but it doesn’t excuse the rudeness she showed to us for just trying to get the table we’d reserved. We could have been unpleasant as it was their mistake not reserving the table correctly but we accepted things do happen. Sadly there are not so many good pubs that serve proper “pub grub” anymore, but The Farmers Arms will not be one I will return to anymore. To add insult to injury, the “reserved” table behind was never used and we didn’t leave until 10pm. Maybe all along that was our reservation "

Lovely pub in St Colomb Minor where my great great grandfather was born. Very popular. Glad I arrived early but gave up my table for a couple of later arrivals as soon as I finished eating. The Sunday roast meal was huge. But the knives...were blunt and I struggled to cut up my meal to eat it. Lovely setting. Kay Glanville

I recently revisited this pub after my last visit in 2019 and was pleased to see that they have made improvements. The pub now offers great, inexpensive food compared to other restaurants in the area. The meals were served hot and without any complaints from anyone at the table. have seen a few times and always well. only for the record we are locals not leavers, but were treated very cold. luke warm eating, hard kartoffels and the worst cauliflower cheese ever. Maybe it was reheated Saturdays eating, we noticed that eating came around. Other tables that plucked hot with steam. we just felt involuntary, even the mermaid was cold. Now, if a business is doing so well in the current climate, that it can choose and choose who wants in their space and do not want, well done and hope that they survive this winter!

The restaurant feels like it is tucked away in a small village that has been surrounded by the bustling town of Newquay. It has the charm of a village pub but is located in a lively city with plenty to see and do nearby. The food is excellent and the prices are very reasonable. We went for lunch and it was quiet, but I imagine it gets busy in the evenings. I wish we had a place like this near us. It's nothing fancy, but if you want good food without spending a fortune, this is a great option. I almost feel bad writing about it, as it seems like a hidden gem enjoyed by locals who prefer to keep it to themselves. Can't blame them for wanting to keep it a secret. Speisekarte ansehen

Visited on a Saturday evening it was getting busy when we arrived and unfortunately they were short staffed. Quite a selection of beers and drinks to choose from. The menu was looking good I had the ale pie that was really good kids had lasagne...all made on the premises. The wife ordered the ham and eggs which came out with alot of fay on and what looked like just very thick back bacon this wasn 't what we were expecting so called over the waitress and she took it away and was happy to replace with something else so brilliant opted for the bangers and mash of which the sausages were top notch, but prior to this the owner I believe came out to say there is nothing wrong with that dish we sel...

We visited this pub last week and found out there was a magician on the day before. We then saw on Facebook that the magician was back on again the week after so we booked in for a meal. The meal was fantastic, the staff...were so friendly but we have to say when we were driving back last night we were all absolutely buzzing over watching the magician and our conversation was all based around him and his magic. Even at breakfast this morning my wife put her hands in her head and I thought something was wrong but as I asked her she said how on earth did he read my mind so accurately.
