The food at this restaurant was exceptional - generous portions served hot and catering to every palate. The breakfast was also of a very high standard, prepared to order.

The menu is limited, but offers simple, high-quality dishes. I decided to try the homemade meat and potato pie, which tasted just like a home-cooked meal. The staff were very friendly and provided excellent service.

Stopped for a late lunch. This place is more like a hotel bar than a restaurant. Good for drinks, but the food is typical pub grub and the wines we wanted were out of stock. I liked that the menu was small. More chance of things being fresh. I had the burger which was great. Mark, who I'm assuming is the manager was absolutely lovely a real credit to the place. The decor needs stripped back. Get rid of all the drapes and the gahstly carpet. And the endless images of red coats shooting people is a out dated and bordering on offensive. I know the history of the place dont care no one needs to see loads of illustrations of people being shot at by soldiers of the empire this is 2020!

We went to the Garrison for a meal in the bar. The waiting time was 40 mins but at least we were told that when we ordered. The salmon was very good as was the scampi and chips. However, I would warn against choosing the steak and ale pie. The pastry was soggy and the meat was chewy, like trying to eat old shoe leather! I think that it would be an idea for the chef to eat one of the pies and then decide if this should still be on the menu. I had two bites and then just gave up. The chips and peas were fine. All the staff are helpful and friendly and the surroundings are pleasant but quite dark due to the nature of the old building.

I booked here for my Christmas Day lunch and will give it full marks. When arriving we were handed a glass of sparkling wine , the tables were very nicely dressed and we were not all ushered in at once, we were booked in in intervals which made it better all round. The food was one hundred percent , I loved the belly pork starter and we all had a liqueur with our cheesecake dessert then we had mince pies and chocolate bon bons. We finished it off with tea and coffee in cups as big as soup bowls. I've had Christmas dinner in some top hotels and paid a fortune but it was never as good as this. So,before writing a review on here, I did email the Garrison 7 days ago. But since nobody has bothered to reply or apologise, I have decided to go ahead with my review. I was in charge of organising our work xmas party. As I have attended weddings, christenings and funerals here and always had a great meal, I recommended The Garrison to my colleagues. Unfortunately I spent most of the evening apologising to the other 43 guests as the food was definately below its usual standard. We’ve been going to the garrison for a few years the food is always great and the service was always faultless the last two visits one on a Sunday afternoon and one on a Friday night everything set off ok then I think who is the new manager thinks you can’t hear him through the masks made the young waitresses working with him feel like everything they were doing was wrong and when they did as he had barked at them the service went down hill. He made us feel that uncomfortable his behaviour to young girls trying to learn a job that we left as soon as possible. He needs to concentrate on his own skills before trying to teach others. Been here many times and the food is always good, never had a bad meal yet. This Christmas instead of all the hassle of cooking a Christmas dinner we decided to eat out. We chose the Garrison because it is guaranteed good food and value for money. The four of us were made very welcome as usual , the Christmas decorations looked lovely without it being over done and the service was fantastic, well done staff. The tables looked immaculate with the beautiful white tablecloths and centre decoration, all the bookings were spaced out which made it better all round for everyone including the kitchen..
