La Petite Gironde - Speisekarte

Fantastic welcome for two poor speakers of French. Our hostess was warm and charming and patient with us. Food was made with love and we were delighted they understood what vegetarians were! Wine reasonably priced and local. A restaurant really trying to make a difference in a town that is struggling a little. Good luck to them for their efforts (we're booked in again for lunch today)!

We visited twice in summer and were thrilled with the quality of the (all) home-made food. Our best dining experience in France! Clearly a talented chef, great thought has obviously gone into creating a menu with some lovely taste combinations. Lovely, efficient and friendly front of house service and welcome, despite our very limited French language skills. A real gem, recommended without hesitation.

We ate here for lunch one day. Although La Petite Gironde does offer set menus, we ordered à la carte. We both chose the soup of the day, which was a tasty—asparagus, I think, perhaps thickened with potato. For mains, we ate salads. Mine was the Salade Périgourdine, which includes gésier (gizards), magret de canard and other stuff along with the salad. It was excellent with lovely fresh greens and a good dressing. My brother chose the warm goat's cheese, which he enjoyed.We drank a half-litre of house red and a bottle of fizzy water. We went here for an evening meal with our family (six of us). The food was all home-cooked and well presented. The menu was small but had good choices and reflected the loacal cuisine. This was not a problem and was because everything was made from scratch.They catered for children and our youngest had an excellent steak hache with fantastic home-made frites! We had a three course meal with wine. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The waitress was friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere was good and the other tables were all french customers (always a good sign if the locals are there.) Their salads were good. Be aware that if you try to find a restaurant in a smal city inFrance when it is not between noon and two you might have to starve until the next city...This fantastic restaurant, La Petite Gironde offers not only amazing,typical local dishes but it will be done with a smile and an open mind. They have the respect of their customers, truly. We met Laurence ( bringing the delicatessen from Laurent in the kitchen) and they desserve the review. Do not bother going somewhere else because somewhere else, they were absolutely not interested by new customers and I have been told in one of them that they had met their quota or done their parts for lunch time....meaning, go to hell.
