"we had one standing on the back of the restaurant, but we found it very loud, yes it was a whole house, but we think we will not sit there again. the menu was so hard to choose, but we had garnelen gamberatti for...Starter, which were beautifully presented. the main thing were pizza, calzone, wow a Calamari court! we also had a common green salad. all very tasty. one chose a desert of his favorite a tiramasui that was slightly delicious. for drinks we chose a dirty martini that I always have here, we had 2 bottles of red wine. the waiters were attentive so a good night and a festively enjoyed by all!"

"Such a beautiful building and gardens, with a unique history and atmosphere. It feels picky to point out small things which aren’t quite right when clearly its a privilege to stay in such a place, but given the prices and the standard of the competition, expectations are high. There’s nothing really wrong with any of it, but too many small details end up making you feel a bit underwhelmed. On the positive side, the building is stunning and the gardens are immaculate with views out over Muirfield golf course and a lovely rural quiet with birds singing etc. Welcome was friendly and attentive. Our room was in the old building, so clearly you don’t expect straight lines and perfection, but the decor is a bit tired, the windows stuck closed, it was overheated and the room amenities basic for the price not even a particularly comfortable bed. The country house hotel feel downstairs is nice and obviously in keeping with the house so a bit old fashioned it’s hard to find somewhere to sit where you don’t feel overheard and overlooked by others. Again nothing really wrong with the meal in chez roux restaurant, but it was dull fancy menu titles don’t really cover up some pretty straightforward food, though it was well executed and the wine list similarly full of safe recognisable names at a pretty heavy markup. Breakfast was similar, and not even that well done overcooked eggs, slightly stale pastries and a long wait for the teas and coffees. All quite conservative I guess maybe it works for their target demographic. Service was OK, but the pleasant facade didn’t really translate into a seamless experience and maybe they are, like many places, overstretched. Underwhelmed."

"The Goose on the Green is a delightful little cafe in the charming little village of Gullane. The cakes are delicious the caramel shortcake is so thick and gooey it is served with a fork! Coffee was fine too. A little bit pricey but to be expected in Gullane. Service was good and friendly. Dog friendly too. Vegetarian options: There are several vegetarian options available. Wheelchair accessibility: There are no steps so wheelchair access shouldn't be a problem."

"We had booked this restaurant the previous day ahead of our overnight stay in the hotel next door and upon arriving we were clearly the first customers of the day. There wasn 't much of a welcome however we were just pointed to our table and handed menus and asked for drinks. Sure. that 's what you want but a Good evening, welcome, how are you this evening? wouldn 't have gone amiss though I must say I 've been to a few Indian restaurants where the 'welcome ' is much the same. Anyway, onto the food. Despite a rather lacklustre chicken kebab starter (it was fine, just chicken without any particularly flavoursome masala the main course of Sarisha Murgh was tasty and good although the supposed mustard flavour didn 't come through at all. The naan breads were good though thinner and more authentic than the usual massive ones you get. We also had dal tadka on the side which was ok very much a homestyle recipe and not the tastiest I 've ever had. All in all it filled us well however. The service was fine, if not exactly friendly and the interior is fairly spartan but for a village the size of Aberlady it 's good to have a choice of eateries and an Indian one at that. They just need to work on their welcome and perhaps also not charge £1.10 for poppadoms (plenty of restaurants will give them for free while you wait! . It 's Bring Your Own Bottle too."

"Really enjoyed our overnight stay here in this beautiful Inn. We also enjoyed an evening meal in the bar and breakfast. Staff- we were welcomed by John who was friendly, efficient and very helpful with info about the local area. The staff in the evening and at breakfast were also super friendly and helpful . Food !!… I was shocked to read a couple of recent reviews as the food was faultless! Our evening meal was lovely, very tasty , well presented and value for money. There was equally a good choice of wine and other beverages. Breakfast was equally as tasty and delicious, we were definitely set up for the day . So thank you John and team we will definitely return when in the area ."
