"On a couple of short stays in the 10th Arrondissement in May 2017 we had occasion to eat at least twice in this conveniently located Restaurant/ Bar which had indoor seating that opened onto the sidewalk and additional outdoor seating. The word "Relais" refers to an eating establishment along the lines of a country inn, way station, or coach house where travelers might stop to rest and get something to eat and drink. "Un relais routier" in today's modern parlance, for example, refers to a truck stop or transport café, and this relais is appropriately situated near two train stations, as was our hotel. Thus it was fairly convenient for us to just hop over and sit down for a relatively quick bite to eat. The service was fairly prompt, friendly, and accommodating, and the first meal I had there was of steak (entrecôte classique) and fries with a side salad. The steak was done "medium" as I had requested, and although it was a bit on the thin side, it was well marbled with fat and thus quite tasty. My wife ordered a different cut of steak which was thicker, also done "medium", and a bit leaner, and thus it seemed to have considerably less taste than mine although it was a bit more expensive and probably healthier. Our salads and the pommes frites were quite good, and this encouraged us to come back again during another short visit to Paris where we stayed in the same neighborhood. The second visit went not quite as well, mainly due to my overly adventurous gastronomical curiosity. The French are noted for making some less-than-foodworthy items not only palatable but quite delicious (like frogs' legs and snails), so I thought I would try an item on the menu that I'd never had -- "chitterlings sausage." I thought chitterlings, or "chitlins" as they are often known, were like scrapple (which I really like), something made from pork snouts, hearts, that sort of thing, but I discovered they are entirely different. First, chitterling sausage is loosely packed so that when you cut into it, it falls all over the plate. Second, it is made of pork small intestines cut up into strips that look like wide noodles and retains the rather slimy texture of same. Third, the whole dish smells and tastes of what I can only describe as urine. After two brave bites, I was done. I surreptitiously wrapped most of the remainder up in a thick paper napkin and put it in a paper bag I just happened to have -- my wife didn't even notice -- and slipped the whole thing into a pocket in my travel vest. I disposed of it all when we left the restaurant. So this particular meal was a failure for me, but I'm not sure how much of its fault lies with the restaurant -- how appetizing can one make chitterlings anyway? By the way, I gave this restaurant a 4-bullet rating because a 3-bullet rating would mean only "Average." In actuality, I thought this restaurant was "Good" and I would go back to try something else, but I don't think I'd give it a full 4-bullet rating "Very Good" quite yet."

I went to lunch in this restaurant at 5:00! So continuous service what is far from being the case everywhere to bet. Very nice service. The dishes had to be excellent at noon, but probably warmed at 5pm, the back of the cod and the pasta had lost their "soupleness".

I was not overly impressed with the onion soup with which I started. It was OK, but nothing more. However the confit de canard with garlic potatoes was first rate - a simple dish, but well executed. Dessert Charlotte) was pretty good too. The menu here is pretty limited, but what is on offer is good.

This place looks like nothing special from the outside, and when I went (early evening) I was the only one dining. But the welcome was warm, the service friendly and speedy, and the tasty onion soup was hot hot hot ! Confit de canard with garlic potatoes and salad was really excellent. And all at a very good price. It's not haute cuisine but feels (and tastes) genuinely French. I'll definitely return whenever I'm in the area.
