"When we arrived at 7.30pm, there were 4 people in the restaurant. It was empty. We got sat down and the waitress took our drinks order, staff very polite. The salad bar was horrid, The Bread was all dried hard, The roast potatoes were dried out and hard, The garlic mushrooms were all dried and formed a skin on top, they looked terrible. The black bean dish was not edible. We did complain and asked for fresh food as this was not edible. The staff were very apologetic and did make us fresh potatoes, etc, and did explain that because they were quiet it was not replenished. However the food which were out were not checked or stirred and should of been taken away binned. As this was our first time here and seeing all dried up food was not a good start. The meat selection was however good, and could not fault the times they were at our table, We had to slow down eating as we couldn't eat what we had before they were back around. As the staff were very friendly and really nice we paid the Service charge. But, Unfortunately we would not return."

"Superb food probably the best I have had for years. The chef is fantastic all the flavours just flowed together. Great decor, spotlessly clean and great service. The fact that they are booked up for months speaks volumes. Thank you for a fantastic night. Update 2.3.22 new chef, second time we have had the pleasure of her cooking, fantastic,very different menu to last twice we have eaten at The Secret Italian. Can't wait to go again. Thank you very much. Returned 15th November 23. Superb evening meal the fixed menu has been tweaked since our last visit as good if not improved. The new layout is lovely. The staff were lovely very very friendly. Love the Secret Italian."

"Before my walk I went into the cafe to but a Cappuccino. Lots of chatter going on between the girls behind the till before they decided to attend to the customer. I asked for a large cup yet the two young girls served me a small cup. I looked at them, held my drink in the air and said “is that large”? One of the girls said straight away in an abrupt manner “you just said cappuccino”. I thought the comment was rude, dismissive and an attempt to absolve herself from making a mistake. She was clearly a young girl with a poor work ethic. Hopefully she will learn in future how to treat a customer. As I walked out I responded.. “this wasn’t my mistake here girls. I did ask for a large cappuccino” to which they looked at me gasping with open mouths as if I had just walked in with a shotgun. I’m not really upset about the drink. What grinded my gears was that the young girl tried to say it was my fault. Will probably get coffee again there but might take a more direct, no nonsense attitude with the staff."

"This was our first visit and we went for the early bird, my partner had 2 courses I had 3 and paid extra for a steak, when we got our bill they had charged us £4.95 each for the veg and £5,95 for a dessert which we queried, they knocked the dessert money off as it came in our offer but on the menu it says chips, veg or salad it should say chips or veg or salad we know for the future but when you go to Miller and Carter they always ask if you have been before to explain things perhaps they should do the same. The front of house guy is miserable and doesn't talk unless you are a table full of women then he sits down with them, not that I want him to sit with me but a smile or is everything ok costs nothing. I will go again as it was a nice meal."

"We went for our first visit after a recommendation and we wasn’t disappointed . The service , the choices , perfect summer special cocktails and the quality Sunday lunch all made the visit a delight . The staff was attentive but not intrusive .. The food , we both had the beef , was cooked to perfection, fresh potatoes and veg all served in warm tureens to help yourself were for us a perfect pairing . I had a glass of the house Malbec this surpassed what I excepted, temperature , quality liquid made me require a second glass , and the second glass didn’t disappoint either . We chose the 2 course option so a desert was now offered , but to our delight we was offered a pause , no rushing , just relaxing . I chose the cheese board , served with for me a treat , quince jelly ! , the second desert was sticky toffee pudding , gone very quickly … Coffee , good quality coffee too rounded off a perfect treat .. The experience was a total bill of £87 which was great value to us .,, We have chosen to rebook for an evening meal as we set of on our holiday in September .. We both can’t thing of a better start to our chosen adventure .. Well done team Beatson House"
