"Very busy Friday night. Although booked, we unfortunately arrived at the same time as about 10 other people (I think we were just unlucky). A bit chaotic with staff trying to find tables. We were sat on a table without cutlery and not given any menus. However a wonderful female waitress noticed us and apologised for the situation and got us drinks and menus. The food arrived in good time and was delicious. Both our starters and main courses were excellent. We would definitely return. Lovely atmosphere. Much bigger inside than it looks from the front. Lovely restaurant with a great choice of food. They cater for all dietary requirements. We were celebrating our engagement and my sister had secretly rang ahead. Not only did they serve the champagne she ordered, but they decorated the table and added us to their evening list of special occasions. Delicious food and great service. "Due to bad weather found this little surprise in Grange over Sands. We decided to have lunch in Grange found Thyme out on Main Street. What a find the welcome was warm and helpful the menu large enough for anyone. We had the hot Mexer feta in honey omg has to be tried to be believed no words can do this dish justice we also had the calamari beautifully cooked crisp outside but sooo tender inside the Greek salad was also delicious. "This restaurant is amazing, I couldn't stop myself from taking photos. The pub meal was one of the best I've ever had. The gnocchi and sticky toffee pudding were arguably the best I've ever tasted (not eaten together). We are only in the area for a few nights, but we might come back tomorrow!"

"My husband and I visited the Royal Oak during our honeymoon in the area. The pub had a cozy atmosphere and the staff were friendly. We were excited to try the pie of the day and spoke with the owner/landlord about ordering the last 2 pies. Our drinks, including a Big Sur IPA that my husband enjoyed, were served promptly. Despite the pub not being very busy, we waited over an hour for our food with no updates from the staff. When we inquired about our order, we were told that it had not been sent to the kitchen. We decided to leave, feeling disappointed, and ended up back at our hotel eating chips at 10pm. It was not the romantic evening we had hoped for. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 2"

"Called in as it was the first pub that looked welcoming, after coming from Chester, visiting a nearby garage to test drive a car. Was really glad to have found it. Melissa Jo was kind enough to find me a table to dine alone where I wouldn’t feel too uncomfortable; something most restaurants overlook but it was really appreciated. The food was great and Melissa Jo ensured I had what I needed and was able to settle up quickly before being on my way. A great experience, I’ve already recommended the place to colleagues who live nearby. Hospitality is still suffering the after effects of covid, with many places unable to recruit good people. I’ve experienced this in too many eateries of late. However, Melissa Jo was a fantastic asset to The Pheasant and seemed to enjoy her work which was a joy to see in the current climate. Thanks for a great meal and outstanding service!"

"Sunday Lunch at the Ilex had been recommended and we accepted a 1:30 booking as it was full for 1:00 starts. The ambiance is very pleasant and the service too. Prawn cocktail looked good with salad from the Hall garden, but the prawns were bland. Roast beef from lauded local butcher Higginsons looked good too, on top of a pile of vegetables and with Yorkshire pudding beside. The meat was more than a challenge for our teeth and even for the serrated knives, beans less than al dente and Yorkshires chewy too. A lot of our food went back, and we accepted the offer to charge us for one main course rather than two. Would the sticky toffee pudding lift the ending? No, not really as it was on the dry side, and the sauce couldn’t lift it enough. When Sunday Lunch is so competitive, the Ilex needs to live up to the standards of the delightful Holker Hall that hosts it."
