"My family and I wandered in randomly because we parked outside and this was the closest restaurant. Very happy we did. My wife had the battered haddock which was made fresh. I had chicken breast stuffed with haggis with a really tasty sauce. The chicken was cooked perfectly nice and hot but very juicy. It was a thick breast of chicken as that's hard to do. My daughter ordered chicken goujons off the kids menu. I tried hers and it was fresh chicken tenders fried with a nice crispy coating. Basically very delicious fried chicken. An adult would be happy with it and I was. Enough food to satisfy any child. We had warm chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream for dessert. The cake was warm and moist. We were very happy with the experience and the service was excellent. The woman who was our waitress was very friendly and also professional anticipating our needs."

The food is absolutely superb! We had a crispy squid starter which was perfectly cooked and our haggis chicken main course was delicious.

Would highly recommend this place if you are in the area. Worth noting that is is BYOB and cash only. The food is excellent, particularly the seafood. Well worth a visit.

The sertvice and food were excellent. Just enough time between starter and main. 4 meals 2 lamb 1 steak and 1 fish all presented wonderfully and devoured in roughly the same way and each plate was cleared (except the lamb chop bones).

We visited Newton Stewart from Liverpool for a weekend. The first night we had tea at No.4 restaurant, a small cosy restaurant but was busy when we ate there. Service was prompt friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and cooked to perfection. I would...

A beautiful little gem of a place. Great food, service and value for money. Unfortunately there were only the five of us in the whole evening (Thursday 9th February) Come on Newton Stewarties support your local restaurant. This one is a beauty so don’t lose it. Delightful.

Visited whilst staying at nearby lodges. Food was nice, would recommend the fish and chips tasted very fresh! The restaurant was byob we weren’t advised of this on booking or would have brought s bottle along. It’s a very laid back place but felt that it lacked atmosphere. Decor quite dated.

Went there with my daughter and family for her birthday. Three of us had the pan roasted lamb from the daily special offer listing. Two of us had to send the food back as very very undercooked lamb. Even after the return was still fairly undercooked. The third one was borderline edible. Very dissapointed with the quality of the food especially as my daughter had been there before and rated the place highly!!

Travelling around the area and wanted a restaurant and about to give up and head back up to Girvan when we came across No 4 in Newton Stewart. Stopped and when we saw it was quiet to be honest wondered what we had walked into. No need for the trepidation our waitress was knowledgeable and courteous and soon had us at our ease. 2 x Chicken Pate's, 1 large battered fish and chips and one good size Ribeye Steak and veggies later very pleasantly replete (oh and room for a Sticky Toffee pudding that was as light as air) Very well worth the impromptu stop and if you are in the area give it a try, 5.30-8.30, Wednesday to Saturday [hidden link]

"My wife found this when looking for a place for us to spend our wedding anniversary. It sounded good on paper. It was a long and tedious drive for us though and I wasn’t sure it was worth it. I was totally wrong! This place is superb and well worth any drive! The setting is great-it has its own beach and there is a small patio where you can sit and there is a heater there too if you need it. There’s a nice lawn in front of the hotel too where those with dogs took them for a walk. The rooms are all different and all well appointed with their own en suite. The costs of the rooms reflects the size of the room and not the facilities. If you are tall like me (6ft 2) I wouldn’t go for one of the rooms in the roof as the coomb ceiling is a pain. However the thing you go there for is the food and that is sublime! It is a set menu in the evening which reduces waste and helps control costs. You get 7 courses, all quite small , but at the end of the meal you are adequately fed but not full. We were there for 3 nights and had a different meal every night. All the dishes were superb but we had mushroom soup one night and it was the best soup I have ever tasted! In fact it was one of the best foods I have ever tasted! The breakfast is very good indeed and you can order whatever you like from the menu which is very comprehensive. I found that set me up for the whole day and I didn’t need a lunch. I must also mention the wine. The wine list is very comprehensive with some difficult to come by wines in it too like Chateau Musar. On 2 nights we went with the wine pairing list which I thought was very good value, especially the cheaper of the 2 lists we had every night. The hotel is a good centre for seeing things in the local area and , despite going in November we found things to occupy ourselves for the 3 days we were there. They have various themed weekends too which sound brilliant. But the hotel is so good it is worth going to anytime. We will certainly be back."
