"I made a booking with the restaurant based on the menu but when we arrived we got a completely different menu due to Covid and being outside am guessing...but this should have been stated on the website! The bench sitting was not expected as well as i had not been to the restaurant before, was not comfortable at all. I also rang in advance to find out if there were outside heaters as i was bringing kids, was told there are gazebos and heaters only to find no gazebo's with limited heaters spaced out randomly between tables. The food was served in take away boxes and wooden cutlery, so this was uncomfortable to eat. Food and drinks took long to be served and we waited ages for the bill. To conclude, we will not be going back."

"we haven't been with shepherd and dog for a while. we had visited friends and decided to try again. we were a table of four, we ordered our food and waited, and waited and waited. there were two empty tables close by, which were occupied after a few minutes. after some considerable time, both tables were served by us. we complained to the waitress and she went to the kitchen and came back and told us that the reason why the other tables were served first was one of the tables their appetizers had been served and the other table had cold food. I can fully understand the starter scenario, but I am not sure that lasagne and chips are classified as cold eating, although it was a “side salat. After minutes, two of our plates arrived, but we had to wait five minutes for the other two. unnecessary to say we will not be back in a hurry"

"On arrival the pub had quite a few locals in and the restaurant also. The atmosphere was brilliant!!! So lovely to see all the locals back and mixing again Service was spot on. The staff who served us were knowledgeable about the menus and took great care of us even though they were extremely busy! Food was just phenomenal and I can assure that we will be back for more!! Lovely to see the owner mixing with all of his customers All in all it was awesome to see the village have a pub back again with reasonable prices and great atmosphere... lovely to have the heart of haughley back"

"I saw on Google for Sunday roasts near me, the Magpie Combs Ford came up, we went in pub got a nice greeting from owner/staff and some locals, nice selection of beers, ales, apple wine on tap, frying come in small, medium and large, a local jokes have the big, then you don't have to eat til Tuesday. We have made ourselves for medium-sized, generous amount of meat with the choice of beef, pork meat, gammon between us all had 3, they were delicious and tender, then you have roasted pipes, roasted potatoes, filling, then you have about 10 vegs to choose from, the cauliflower/Brokoli cheese the sauce was so good, all the vegs cooked only perfect, then socen The Desserts list is also great, we had Belgium waffle and Marmelade Poly view photos, the Custard was so creamy. We have booked in advance, would definitely recommend this. Thank you to the Magpie, my only regret is that I am not a local because this is definitely my local pub if I did. Will be worth the trip."

"Utterly fantastic food ,best carvery I've had for years .Staff very helpful ....doing the best they can in cramped conditions ...Table booked at 1.30 finally got seated at 2 20 ran out of time for afters (car park closes early on Sundays Shame for us and them as they lost the sale of 13 afters ! Feel sorry for the staff ...as I always try and give a fair review .It was utter chaos entering people everywhere juggling for seats .We expected it to be busy as it was Mother's Day .....but this was another level .The first course we had was fantastic ! Well done Chef and serving staff !"
