"After having traveled all day, my husband and I decided to relax with a high tea at the Rose Lounge. The tea, scones, sandwiches, and pastries were all excellent. The portions were VERY generous. Our server, Tessa, I think, was courteous, charming, and attentive. The harpist was really talented. This was a 5 star experience. Coming from the states, where there is almost never any ceremony around a pot of tea, and if there is it usually involves only women, I found it fascinating that the harpist and I were the only women in the lounge. Also, the group we were with later in the week used the lounge as a place to relax in the evenings. It is an inviting setting to enjoy after-dinner drinks...read more"

We enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea with the pleasant ambiance of a harp in the background, sandwiches, and tea. The standout feature of this experience was definitely the delicious Pariser cakes.

My favourite was the colourful Chocolate dacquoise with jasmine flower mousse and raspberry macaron. The mousse is delicate with just a hint of jasmine while the chocolate base has an impossibly light brownie texture.

I recently visited the five-star Sofitel London St James, a unique French hotel, for their new floral-themed afternoon tea. This limited edition French twist on the classic English tradition was inspired by the renowned Chelsea Flower Show. I was curious to see how a French hotel group would put their own spin on this beloved British pastime.

I love afternoon tea, in recent years have been a number that I have been blogging for some time in one of my throwback Thursday contributions. I mean, what is not to love about afternoon tea? many sandwiches with different fillings to try fluffy scones with different toppings, and cake galore! with the widest teesortiment they may be able to ask! so I was very excited when I was invited to an exclusive preview of “Le tea en Rose” afternoon tea in the sofitel st james hotel, highlighting the arrival of jump and the chelsea flower show.

I have tried the gluten-free afternoon tea at Sofitel London twice - once in the spa and the second time as part of their Chelsea Garden Show inspired menu. The gluten-free sandwiches were dry and lacking in filling, which was disappointing. However, the scones were the standout item, with the only suggestion being to offer more jam and clotted cream. The pastries were beautifully presented, but as Sofitel is a French brand, I expected more creativity and flavor. The Rose Lounge is lovely and feminine, but there are better afternoon tea options in London to enjoy. xx

On now and running throughout May is a new floral-inspired La Vie en Rose afternoon tea at the Rose Lounge at the Sofitel London St James hotel. I got a taste of this limited run luxury a couple of weeks back and very much enjoyed it. Here’s a waft of what made it such a treat for me. Maybe it was the harpist playing in the corner of the Sofitel’s comfortable yet elegant Rose Lounge? Really, where else are you going to find something like that around town these days? Or perhaps it was the chance to sip from a selection of the exquisite assortment of blends from old school French teahouse, Dammon Freres. I tried two: the especially well suited and fragrant Rose Bud and a more robust...read mo...

Mum was in town visiting and so I decided to take her to afternoon tea at the Rose Lounge, Sofitel Hotel St James. I love taking visitors for afternoon tea as I can’t think of anything more quintessentially English for a Sunday afternoon treat. The Sofitel Hotel is a gorgeous hotel and epitomises the height of elegance. We only walked through the lobby and The Rose Lounge, but you can tell this is one classy hotel. The Rose Lounge is where the afternoon tea is held and it is as pretty as pretty can be. The space is cozy and quaint, although the tables are probably a little bit too small. But we loved the décor and thought it was perfectly decorated for an afternoon tea experience. The...read...

"This was probably the worst Sunday lunch experience ever. I went here with my son and grandson and probably waited 10 minutes to just find out if they had a table for us. That should have been a warning sign as it didn 't look very busy. We were then shown upstairs by a friendly waitress to our table, we then waited another 15 minutes before she came to ask if we wanted drinks, we told her we also wanted to order food at the same time as we had a 2 year old with us. There were 2 other tables with people at them. The drinks arrived and then a while later the food arrived. I couldn 't quite believe what was put in front of me, it was nothing more than a pasta bowl with some obviously frozen veg that looked terribly soggy, this had strangely been arranged around 3 miniscule Yorkshire puddings that were the size of table spoon, on these were bits of potato that were hardly recognisable as roast potatoes and my son said perhaps they bring the potatoes separately I pointed out that the potatoes were already on the plate. The beef looked overcooked and was completely stone cold. The child 's roast for my grandson at £10 was so dreadful that we couldn 't even cut through the chicken as it was so tough. The plates were cold and so was all the food, even if the food had been hot it looked so disgusting I wouldn 't have wanted to eat it. As gravy had come in individual pots, i dipped my finger in to see if that was even hot and it was only tepid, it tasted so strange and nothing like gravy. As my son continued to try cutting his child 's meat, I told him I couldn 't possibly eat this as it was inedible to which he then agreed. The people on the next table overheard us and said theirs was also disgusting with frozen broccoli almost a puree. I 've had better food in hospital and school dinners. I can 't imagine who was in the kitchen but it certainly couldn 't have been a chef. Whoever has provided positive reviews recently can only be friends of the people running this pub now as nobody in their right mind could find anything positive about the food, it truly was disgusting. We told the waitress we were leaving as the food was cold and disgusting, she asked us to pay for the drinks that we hadn 't drunk, we had ordered wine to drink with our meal. It really was a terrible experience. The couple who ran this before the last people were great, the food was exceptional and so was the service, my son said she was French. We will not be stepping foot in The Sussex Brewery again. £17 for a roast that even the dog would have turned his nose up at. A real shame as my son lives just round the corner."
