Restaurant Le Guillotin La Soupe aux Choux

This was probably my fourth or fifth visit to this restaurant in the past years. Never disappoints. Wonderful meat every time! Great friendly chef. Entry pate is tasty Meat cooked just right. I recommend

We arrived late in Bourges and wanted to have a good dinner. We had appetizers and a good steak (entrecote au bleu d'Auvergne). As an appetizer the chef salad with bleu d'Auvergne, magret de canard fume, and the poached egg is to be recommended

In a bustling pavement cafe area of Bourges this place has plenty of atmosphere. Food is substantial, well cooked and tasty albeit at the French rustic end of the scale. Look out for the cote de boeuf for 2 which is huge and served rare is hard to beat.

Stopped for lunch after members of our party disagreed about other choices.Service excellent . Food not memorable but palatable.If I was back in Bourges I would campaign more strongly to try my choice rather than return here but would not refuse to try it again.

A no frills typical French by the side of the street restaurant, as in you get what you ask for and get what you pay for,excellent steak & chips nice dessert and good wine list , oh and you might want to book early for a Friday & Saturday night as it gets really busy.

We chose the restaurant by accident, as a nearby top of the charts was closed… Excellent surprise: the meat is cooked on the indoor grill to perfection, and we where surprised to receive before the côte de bœuf a very copious “paté” and a “terrine”. Better be hungry, you will enjoy it to the last bit!

Having had several gourmet meals we needed something informal and found it here. Excellent salads and superb steak! We shared the chef's salad as a starter (a good move as the portions were large) and followed this with a magret de canard (rosé) and an entrecôte steak (seignant) which was cooked to perfection. A reasonably priced bottle of Reuilly was an ideal accompaniment. All in all a great find!

The restaurant is in a great location near great pubs and with loads of people out enjoying themselves. My experience was not great. I did not think all elements of the dishes worked. I found the comfit duck strange and unpleasant and I don't think cold water melon with warm suckling pig worked. The atmosphere is ok but too dark - we needed a torch to read the menus . The service was excellent. It pretends to be better than what it is and is just too expensive. The toilets are not good and influence the experience negatively.

Having asked Madame at the excellent Hotel St Jean for a good steak recommendation, she directed us to this homely establishment. Stick to a grilled meat order here and you won't go far wrong, as Monsieur cooks over a charcoal grill in the restaurant itself. With a thick steak ordered blue, the exterior comes chargrilled to within an inch of it's life, yet the interior is so, so pink and moist - the man's an artist, and I told him so whilst warmly shaking his hand. Visit here if you can, and I heartily recommend the Cote de Boeuf, a massive feed for two - in reality enough for four (pâté & rilletes starter included in the price), served with a green salad and divine home-cooked sauté potatoe...
