"Must. Go. Back. Not a terribly clever acronym on my part but our first visit was sensational. It kicked off with the perfect sharpener: a Classic **** Mary rated 7 on the SALT Scoville heat scale. Then followed an outstanding Butcher's Breakfast which comprised dry-cured back bacon, Salt signature sausage, Fruit Pig black pudding and haggis, mushroom fricassée, two free-range eggs and house-made sriracha baked beans. Be sure to order sourdough toast fried in beef fat rendered on the premises with Salt's own superb tomato, fennel and chilli butter. A glass of raw, cold-pressed orange juice rounded off our perfect start to the day. If you're heading to Edinburgh later this month for the Festival and Fringe put SALT on your to do list alongside Frank Skinner at Assembly George Square and Megan Stalter at Gilded Balloon."

Like its pun-packed menu and pancake-stacked plates, Salt is full of character and taste. Aside from a banging brunch, highlights included chic decor and stellar staff. My only regret? Not asking for a boozy version of the Dirty Chai Latte. Next time.

We loved it here. The staff were great and the food was wonderful. My husband had the full cooked breakfast and I had the smoked haddock with a chessy sauce and a poached egg absolutely delightful. Salt Café in Morningside is a charming restaurant that provides a welcoming environment, excellent service, and a varied brunch menu suitable for everyone. It is recommended to book a table in advance as it has limited seating. Whether you are a local or visiting, I strongly suggest trying Salt Café for its friendly atmosphere and tasty dishes.

We made a reservation online for a weekend brunch and were seated in the cozy far end section. The prices are high and the portion sizes are not generous. While the presentation of the dishes is great, the taste is lacking. The fluffy pancakes are average and not amazing, but the yogurt and compote stand out. The full breakfast is also average and not exceptional, with only the mushrooms on the plate being worth recommending. Overall, the restaurant is highly overrated and overpriced for the quality of the food offered. If you live nearby, it may be worth a walk-in visit to try, but I would not recommend booking in advance or making a special trip to visit just for the food. There are much b...
