"Ok, this is a classy establishment. Service is great and they take great care to look after your every need. The wine list is enormous but help is on hand and two bottles of the most wonderful wine were chosen for us. We started with some amuse bouches which were good, but the mussels in a herb broth were over salted, the fried pizza with cheese was delicious, like a savoury doughnut, but seemed a bit out of place and a crunchy tube of cheese filled with chives was delicious, but a bit heavy handed for an appetiser in such a grand restaurant. There then followed a terrific dish of raw tuna and foie gras. This was faultless and world class. A scallop with burnt corn, morel mushrooms and its own sauce made of the same ingredients was a show stopper. There was then a dish of scallop, eel, various white fish and a large prawn. It was interspersed with courgette. Sadly, My wife and I both found this fairly unpleasant. Having eaten my prawn, I felt each mouthful to be less than enjoyable. Having whispered this to my wife, she had a sniff at the prawn on her plate and decided to avoid it. Maybe it was just context, but we did not enjoy this course. The next course was a bit mis-judged. Three fairly large Gnocchi stuffed with pesto. They were great, but one would have made the point. Three was too much. Maybe they belong with the appetisers? The next course was a complete revelation and any doubts we might have had about the cooking were dispersed with the perfect cooking of the pidgeon. Legs confit, livers on toast, breasts that melted in the mouth and a sort of KFP (Kentucky fried Pidgeon) of the other leg. This, with the intense reduction was absolutely perfect. Desserts and petit fours then followed which were nothing but delicious. We met the young chef, he is clearly very talented. I think the restaurant needs to decide if comfort food (deep fried pizza, stuffed gnocchi etc) fits with the other very high class dishes. We were given wonderful bread, but also slightly undercooked focaccia and some breadsticks along with some very classy olive oil. Generous, but too much? A few tweaks and this could have two stars, the talent is there."

The staff were super welcoming and the service was superb. Some of the food was a bit salty, but the plating of all the food was nice. The dish of scallop and raw tuna was especially wonderful.

First dinner on first night during this trip to Italy. It is a wonderful experience. We had the chef’s choice menu with the wine pairing. Everything was outstanding and uniquely prepared. Will definitely return and tell friends.

Excellent advanced cooking with some outstanding memorable plates. Service started off nicely and correctly but half way into the meal the restaurant filled up and staff got a bit overwhelmed and things got a little out of control as they stopped informing about what came on the plates and in the glasses Speisekarte ansehen

We had an absolutely lovely meal. We ordered the “surprise” menu with the wine pairing. My husband and I have eaten at some of the worlds best restaurants and there were two dishes from San Giorgio that broke into my “top ten bites of all time” list. I won’t tell you which, that will spoil the surprise. 10/10 will be back. Delighted we came here on a whim. Thank you to the team!

"Staying at the Hotel Bristol Palace we also went for dinner to its restaurant 'Giotto '. We had made a reservation for 7.30pm, when it opens. Being alone at the beginning the head waiter and his assistant had plenty of time for us, giving us all kind of information. They were both very friendly and professional during the whole evening. We also liked the atmosphere of the elegant Art Nouveau dining hall with frescoes, also on the ceiling, with real flowers in pots and with white tablecloth. From the menu card with descriptions in Italian, English and French we saw that they offer plenty of Ligurian specialities. So as antipasto I went for a 'Cima Genovese ', a very typical dish, one doesn 't encounter too often, since it involves a lot of work. It is a veal belly, stuffed with varying ingredients like eggs, intestines, cheese, vegetables. It was served cold and in slices, all covered with lettuce salad. On the side was 'Salsa verde ', also typical for Genoa, but with the main ingredient not basil as in the pesto, but parsley. My wife instead had as an antipasto a 'Scrigno di Patata nell ' Orto d 'Inverno con Fonduta di Parmiggiano ' and as a main course a 'Polpo rosticiado con su crema di Patate allo Zafferano '. My second plate was the 'Catch of the Day ' alla Ligure, a piece of fresh fish with potatoes and pine nuts. To drink we he had ordered a Ligurian white wine, a Vermentino DOC Colli di Luni, bottled for the Hotel Bristol Palace. As dessert the choice of my wife was Ice Cream, while I went for a 'Tortino morbido al Cioccolato, Panna montata al Cardamomo e Salsa ai Frutti di Bosco '. We finished the superb dinner with Espresso and when I asked for a 'Grappa ' as local as possible, the head waiter said that he has something special for me, an 'A me Rappa '. When I gave some of it to my wife to taste, she said: 'This is a ladies ' grappa '. It is a locally produced Grappa from Bianchetta Genovese grapes flavoured with honey. Thus ended a wonderful evening in one of our favourite hotels in Italy."
