"We visited this garden centre for a ‘quick stop’ for coffee and cake as part of a Mother’s Day treat. We waited over 20 minutes in the queue whilst one poor waitress struggled to take orders, make all the hot drinks and take payment, so slow and hugely inefficient. Whilst I waited my wife sat at a free table with our two disabled sons, they’re profoundly autistic and don’t understand the concept of waiting, however, my wife kept them occupied whilst they waited for their cake, they did well, but we were nervous that they’d get very upset at any moment. To make life even more stressful, after 15 minutes of sitting down, but before we’d even been served, an exceptionally rude waitress came marching over and said “this table is reserved, you have to move” not “sorry we haven’t left a reserved sign on this table but these people did actually book this table, would you be kind enough to move” my wife then had to try to move all of our coats, whilst holding onto both boys, whilst she hurried us along, not offering to help. We then got turfed into two small sofas that didn’t haven enough space for all of us, so had to squash in, which wasn’t great. The boys need to eat at a table, which wasn’t possible in this small space without them sitting on the floor and eating from the coffee table. Cake went everywhere, it wasn’t fun. The drinks were nice, but we felt like we’d waited for the coffee beans to grow. Four drinks, two scones (no condiments) and two pieces of cake came to £24! Sadly we wouldn’t be back, they couldn’t handle the amount of customers and were rude, unprofessional and lacked empathy for disabled customers’ needs."

This used to be a real gem but recently it has become really bad. The service is slow and the food is poor. It’s a shame, I won’t be back

The food was OK, we only had sandwiches. Staff very slow and easily confused causing long delays and queues.Even simple orders like 2 cups of tea resulted in confusion.

An odd combination that actually works quite well. The staff are very friendly and the food and drink was flying out of the kitchen when we visited. It was very clean and tidy considering how busy it was. Speisekarte ansehen

Place not busy- 25 minute wait for soup and sandwiches- one of the soups was not what had bee asked for but I was accused of changing my mind! Bread for sandwiches both brown and white was dry and the vintage cheddar tasteless. Never again

Pre prepared, last one on the shelf so could have been better. Quite a nice selection of treats but Sarnies and Scones paid the price for time on the shelf. Staff are generally friendly and there is a nice relaxed atmosphere, certainly not rushed. An ok outside seating area but they could do with burning citronella.

Clearly a serial moaner. I was behind him in the queue when he clearly ordered one of both soups. I saw the chef bring two out and then take one back so not sure how he tasted the cheese one. I felt sorry for the girl he shouted out. I had a toastie and chips which was lovely. The restaurant was around half full with only two staff so I was impressed as the speed of service was pretty quick. I will definitely return and will be sure to tell my friends. There was a nice selection of cakes too. I also got given nice booklet of offers for January. So will be using them ! Speisekarte ansehen

We came here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. It had been recommended by my father so I expected to have a pleasant lunch. We arrived at three o 'clock expecting to be able to sit down and enjoy a nice sandwich, to be told that the kitchen had just closed, with no prior warning on a menu or any notice. A sign advertising their chips read every day any time , which quite clearly turned out to be false. We did however enjoy a reasonably priced and rather nice hot chocolate and cappuccino. I just wished their was a prior notice explaining the closure of the kitchen at 3, as we therefore had to go without lunch.

We dropped our car off for wash and polish and thought we’d get a quick drink whilst we waited. And by quick I mean choose 2 cans of pop and 1 bottle of water from the fridge then wait 20 minutes to pay! It seems customer service, efficiency and organisation are not on this restaurants and I use this term loosely customer charter. We picked our drinks then joined the queue of 1 and proceeded to grow old. We heard the person in front make three menu choices to be told at 1:30 in the afternoon! they had no baked potatoes and coronation chicken left and the staff member didn’t know what the soup of the day was, she’d go and check, Mrs Overall style. The place is obviously going through bad time...

"Our first visit. We cannot praise thank The Wellie highly enough. What a find! Peacefully rural on a quiet road to the south of Baughurst. A classic, pretty country pub, now converted to an excellent restaurant, with three rooms. What strikes you first is how immaculate The Wellie is, inside and out. The large garden is a delight. Masses of dahlias and all manner of bushes and plants. Birds, birds and more birds. Do check out the vegetable garden beyond the rear car park. You then walk inside to the warmest of relaxed welcomes from the owners, Simon and Jason, and manager, Sheila, and their lovely young helpers. Nothing is too much trouble. The first thing you’ll spot is the array of fruit, veg salad for sale by the pub bar – the Wellie Deli. Along with home made jams, chutneys, quiches, etc. I then spotted the two hand pumps! Longdog Golden Poacher Basingstoke Pride. The seating inside is for diners every session is a sell out! But I was very happy to sup several excellent pints of well kept draught Basingstoke Pride in the garden – until I discovered their Negronis! Truly the best this side of Kwant (Piccadilly). We’d opted for the room in the pub: the Apartment. Two rooms on the first floor, knocked through. Enormous comfy bed, large rainfall shower, sofa, mini bar – two TVs! Free milk homemade shortbread. One of the discoveries we made here is the fabulous tea they serve from Prince Sons. As you can tell by now, we were very happy with our first stay at The Wellie… and then we went down for dinner! A truly exceptional menu from Jason’s kitchen, which changes each evening. Highlights were the scallops wrapped in pancetta, the pollack, the lamb pot pie, the twice baked cheese souffle, the NY cheesecake, the rhubarb ice cream, the treacle tart... All so fresh, tasty, and mainly from their garden. What we loved most was it was relaxed but fine dining without the tiny portions. The Full English breakfast the next morning was equally tasty. All in all, we did not want to go home! Thank you Simon, Jason Sheila. We will be back, soon."
