"This used to be our local go to restaurant. Great service and food. We had many friends join us for breakfast, lunch, coffee and booked Christmas Treats here too. It isn't just the Lockdown issues that have badly affected this business. We found standards falling...and food not what it was before the Lockdown. we did want to support the family business here. SADLY, we have turned up to find the place closed (told it was quiet so they just shut up). No mention on social media of this. Menus were limited given issues, fine. We did comment on their own face book page making one comment about toast being placed on top f the full breakfast, but said the food was good quality. The comment was taken down by them: hence reviews there not a true reflection of all customers comments. Doesn't seem quite right as the comment was not offensive or over critical: simply said prefer toast served on a side plate Turned up for a coffee and a cake on Monday June. Arrived at pm. had a look at the displays (which a member of staff was wrapping in cling film) she has yet to speak to me, after waiting minutes a young man came to the till and said I couldn't order anything as they stopped taking food orders at and drinks orders at (it was at this point). No apology. I looked for a sign couldn't see anything. I do understand there has to be a time-limit on things but not very clear or helpful. On our way out we were asked by a member of staff at the Garden Centre Tills if we found what we were looking for. We took the opportunity to say about the timing of orders. She looked at her watch and said she was surprised they couldn't take our order as they should have been open at that time. We left unhappy. None of this makes any sense for a business trying to re-establish itself in my opinion. Grumpy and unhelpful staff in the Coffee Shop don't encourage our return. We have previously given really good feedback and recommended this place, sadly, not any more. Our advice: go somewhere else that values the customer and want's your business."

Really nice eating place inside the garden centre. Went on recommendation from a friend, had coffee and cakes. Very good selection of cakes. I had a tasty caramel apple pie and my daughter had cheesecake. We both enjoyed and would visit again

Been to Sweeps a number of times and always enjoyed the food and service. On this visit we did enjoy the food and service but was extremely disappointed to find the table tops extremely sticky. I think this has a lot to do with how...they are cleaned but regardless it's off putting when sitting down to eat.

It was my husband’s birthday today and we decided to pop into Sweeps for lunch whilst we were out. We’ve eaten here before and the food has always been quite good. Today however it was well below standard. Everything was very rushed with the food...arriving within minutes. It certainly didn’t appear to be freshly cooked. My Welsh Rarebit was lukewarm and like yellow rubber, my husbands fish was hot at one end and cold at the other with just warm chips all presented on a cold plate. It was almost as if the meals were pre prepared and warmed up quickly. Not at all enjoyable and certainly won’t take the chance of eating here again.

Today myself and friends went for a prebooked afternoon tea .When we sat down we removed our coats and did hear the people on the next table say they will soon be putting them back on The afternoon tea and staff we could...not fault but it was so tense because we were bitterly cold so put our coats back on .Not ideal to eat with top coats on.I mentioned the cold to young member of staff who apologised and said she would look at the above air system which she did.It warmed up by which time we were nearly ready to leave.I don't understand why it wasn't on.Everybody was sitting in their coats ridiculous. We were chilled to the bone and actually we were glad to get tea over with and leave. What a...

Visited at for lunch people first choice of order had sold out!! we then ordered fish and chip meals Bacon Barm and Chicken Risotto what a let down. The barm looked as if it had been thrown on plate with...no garnish at all an year old could have done better. The Risotto was more like congealed rice pudding very unappetizing no chicken to be seen could only manage a quarter of it. Fish was ok chips not good no home cooking here. Total cost with teas and coffee this included for a small bottle of water! We had visited in the past and enjoyed fish and chips so expected a lot better. We will not be visiting again or recommending we did not expect A la Carte but a butty van at side of road would...

We visit here fairly regularly and meet friends for coffee and cakes, but on this occasion visited at lunchtime and had a meal. The choice of food and the ‘Specials Board’ make it difficult to decide as to what to eat. The scampi, chips ..peas were served piping hot as was my wife’s Sticky chilli beef with salad. We sat outside on the decking, the weather was very nice and the ‘wall of flowers looked amazing. We have been again for coffee and cakes, I had the Bread Butter pudding with custard and it was most enjoyable. The cakes and desserts are really delicious and of good sized portions, they also have at least one gluten free option and gf ice cream. The only concern as mentioned by a pre...

Have reviewed Sweeps many, many times and on this occasion, we just had tea and teacakes. It was the first outing to a restaurant for one of our party, just to let them get the feel of well how they feel after of virtual isolation. We sat outside a lovely setting amongst the colourful floral displays. The place was packed (as usual) testament to their great food and service. The tea was hot and plentiful and the teacakes were fresh. The only thing was that the tables were sticky. Before committing to writing something negative, we did touch several tables and they were all the same. Maybe it's the detergent they're using? It gave the impression of perhaps not being clean which made our vulne...

Had a good lunch today. One fish and chips with mushy peas. No complaints, everything was hot and freshly cooked. One fish-finger baton. Again, everything was fresh, salad was delicious, fish was hot and fresh but it def wasn't a fish-finger'. It was a smaller...battered fish. I had chosen the fish-finger baton as I wanted fish-fingers on a baton. Not to worry. What I had was perfectly nice and we washed it all down with a pot of hot, strong tea. Lovely. Having been here many, many times, I was really surprised at how quiet it was. We arrived at pm on Friday have been for lunch many times and Fridays and Sundays are usually very busy. Today well, it wasn't quiet, but it was certainly not bus...

My last review of Sweeps was in Since then we have lunched here on a fairly regular basis although these visits were seriously curtailed during the Covid restrictions and it is only recently that we have been able to resume what used to...be a very enjoyable experience. But what a disappointment! We are aware that new management have taken over, and certainly not for the better. My original review in gave an excellent rating now I feel quite generous in describing Sweeps as average. During the past two months we have visited on three occasions, so this review is not based on a one-off situation. One can accept that prices have gone up slightly, and this is certainly not a criticism , but the...

"This is a review based only on take away food and from over take aways, so not a one off. One of the biggest surprises to us was the variation in quality from one week to the next. An example of this is that...a Tandoori mixed grill one week was so good, my partner had it again the next week, second time it was almost covered in a slimy coating and not at all pleasant. This also happened with a lamb Rogan josh, top quality one week, a few weeks later it tasted more like a pudding (more of this later). The quality of the meat, be it chicken, lamb or prawn has been generally absolutely top quality, large tasty pieces of meat, larger pieces than most other takeaways and good quality too. The side dishes have been generally good to. Price wise Holdi is expensive, there is no question about this and when the food is good quality I do not mind paying for it, the inconsistency we have encountered doesn’t warrant these prices to be honest. However, the biggest issue we have with Holdi is sweet curries, so often we have all of us) said this tastes sweet try it yourselves. It’s sweet to a point that it becomes a bit weird and not what you want from a curry. In addition to this have a look at the menu, about times it must say a sweet dish! We have avoided these and still received a sweet dish, the last one a sweet chicken jalfrezi…? Finally, when its around for a takeaway, chuck in a few poppadoms most other restaurants and takeaways do, it is a nice gesture."
