"Tao have been around for at least a decade, and I used to love coming in here. After a recent trip, I was surprised to discover a straightforward meal for one costing almost £20, with a large (20+ minute) wait between arrival of the starter and the main. Ignoring that, the food here is really quite excellent. I had the dumplings and beef chow mien, but portions seem to have shrunk somewhat over the years. There was some great Chinese pop music playing during my last visit, I enjoyed using Shazam to discover who the artists were. A final note, and it's been true for a long time, Tao attracts plenty of Asian folk eating here. For an Asian restaurant, in terms of authenticity that is usually a really great sign. I'd still enjoy eating here, but it probably wouldn't be my typical first choice."

HIGHLY overpriced for very mediocre food, on a Friday night the neighboring chili house (a great restaurant) was full so we came to Tao. TONNES of tables the place was almost empty. Should have been a sign. POOR food and CRAZY prices for the quality. Will NOT be back!

Fabulous food but we didn't get our main course until early 90 minutes after we ordered. There were lots of groups ordering hotpot but we were left. They apologized but not even a token gesture of a percentage off the bill or a voucher . Should have just left after the starter that took 45 mins.

This restaurant is a hidden gem in Belfast that I wish I had discovered sooner. The food is fabulous and I highly recommend it. It seems like the chef has won awards from the Belfast City Council, which is very impressive. As someone who values hygiene when dining out, I am pleased to say that this restaurant ranks in my top 5.

I visited this restaurant for the first time during my trip to Belfast. We received a warm welcome and enjoyed the delicious food. I had king prawns with fried rice, while my husband had mixed vegetables with noodles, both of which were delicious and generously portioned. They offer both dine-in and takeaway options, but only accept cash for payment.

By far the worst Singapore noodles I have ever tasted. What Singapore noodles adds frankfurters to the dish. Prawns/Shrimp were white so no idea what they are and noodles were far from fine. If I am still alive tomorrow it will be a miracle. Customer service was non-existent. Too busy cutting up garlic on front desk. Even a drunk man can not enjoy their food.

Not only did I find hair in my dish while eating at this restaurant, but they also only accept cash in order to avoid paying taxes. They offered Alipay transfers at an exchange rate of 8.5 (compared to the current rate of 7.7), causing us to pay £58 for a £49 bill. I will not be returning to this restaurant, even though I am Chinese. It's a rip-off to overcharge fellow Chinese customers like this.

We ordered Sweet and sour spare ribs, Kung Pao chicken(Fried chicken with Chilli), Signature fragrant beef and Garlic Choy Sum vegetable for 5 peoples. Food was tasty and amazing, serve hot and big portion. The staff were very friendly and the price was just right. I will recommend this place to any tourist and will definitely come back when in Belfast. My family were satisfied and happy to eat here. Full stars from us.

"enjoyed our evening in james st it was the best culinary experience of our trip! we had been happy to see this evening as we had a few hit-N-seals in the course of our trip to belfast. we were not disappointed and had the fabulous evening. we were quickly welcomed and sitting. the place is beautiful and spacious. revitalized and environment. the bar is great and would like to come back, only for drinks at the bar sometime. we ordered cocktails immediately. an Irish gin negroni and a traditional old fashion. my neger was absolutely excellent. I think the old fashion could have been done with real sugar cubes and not sugar syrup, but it wasn't too bad. we were quick to choose our wein. we chose a beautiful juicy red, the cline, the old vine zinfandel, 2019. to begin we had the ham hock terrine with piccalilli champ bread and some scallops with boar bell. the hanging-hock court was the best ham-hock I had. the homemade piccalilli was something else. really nice crispy and sharp sharp to help cut through the hammock and the champbrot was delicious crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. the scallops and black bells were disappointing, as they lacked no salt or genuine aroma or texture between them. we still ate it and shared the rest of my hammock. we both decided to go for the co. tyrone 270g fillet steak with sides of champ and truffle parmesan chips. red wine and pfeffer sauce. they were fantastic steaks. Actually, I didn't think I would finish mine, but I did. I have met the right choice with the jus and the truffle chips. they went so well together, the dryness of the parmesan and sweet, slightly greasy of the jus. the steaks were perfectly cooked. a medium and my medium rare. fantastic aroma on the grilled outside of the steak and beautiful texture when they pierce. we both agreed that the champ was the best champ we ever cost. it was hot, soft, so well aromatized with hot butter on the top of the copper serving pot melt. it was really the most incredible champ. I was too full of dessert. but my sample ordered the sticky toffee pudding sundae. the team was friendly enough to make me an espresso martini that was both decaf and not a sugar syrup. it was brilliant. we both managed to work our way, although a surprisingly light sticky toast desserts on Sunday. the team was fantastic. very friendly and chatting to us. the bar team did not stop, I had the pleasure of standing and watching them make a great selection of drinks and cocktails. the waiting staff were also very friendly when they check in with us at comfortable places to ensure that we were in order. we felt very well looked around. the service was very good, we didn't feel any hurry, it felt like such a free time in this restaurant. when we come back to belfast, we will be back in absolute terms and we will definitely recommend others. Thank you."

"I'm an American. I was invited to work at the queen’s university in a global conference. my airline has moved my baggage, so I stopped in the barking dog to use her wlan to check the status of my baggage and have a drink and a snack with my associate who has unusual allergies. the menu had nothing to call us, so we have decided to finish and move only our drinks./ at no point has anyone informed that it is illegal to have only drinks, and our server ran our review without mentioning any legal requirements. After I paid, someone who I suspect, the manager, came to the table and checked our reception. exactly what I thought was what they said before they cheated on me how it is illegal to buy drinks in a restaurant without eating. I apologised and explained that I had no warning. I offered to buy food retroactive and they refused. then they repeated that I was in a restaurant and not in a pub and that my activities were illegal. they denied my multiple attempts to apologise me while I explained that I am not out of the opposite. this experience was very confusing for me, because the night before me had drinks in a restaurant without food and it was no problem. in any case I was told that there is no such law and that the ordering of drinks without eating in a restaurant is very common. I've never been treated so badly in a customer service dynamic and I'm not sure why this happened. I feel targeted and totally mistreated for what does not seem to be a good reason. To finish it, it was my birthday. complete error in the name of what this person was. I will say the rest of the staff was very pleasant and accommodating."
