A highlight of our cycling touring holiday is when we can find a most enjoyable menu du jour and the food at the Terre De Loire was superb. A little more expensive than our usual lunch time meal,however, the three course lunch was one of our best during our ten week tour through France. A sign on the Canal would make it easier for cyclists to find.

The four of us stopped at this restaurant one night for dinner. Not only was the host/server the chef, he was friendly and accommodating. The meals we had were AMAZING! Very interesting menu served in the most unique fashion. You cannot leave this restaurant without having the mussels as a starter dish. Absolutely delicious!! The ambiance of the restaurant interior could use a bit of attention - specifically the lighting (too bright) and decor - dimmer lighting with some candles on the table would make the ladies happier and add to the mood of the restaurant. However, if we are ever back to this area of France again, this restaurant it on the top of our list to visit again.

Other reviews were positive, so perhaps they were having an off day. The food was very ordinary and the prices were high. Why ask how we want our steaks cooked (medium) and then make all three of them well-done anyway? Three of us ordered strawberries for dessert but were later told that there were no strawberries left. I had half a lobster (over cooked) but no claw crackers were brought until we asked. This was lunch time on a quiet week day, so the staff were not under pressure. We were really disappointed with this lunch which we arranged as a treat for our French friends. We ended up staying at the hotel at short notice as another hotel let us down at the last minute. As we didn't know much about the area, we opted to eat in the hotel restaurant and were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and the setting. Although it was a miserable rainy night on our visit, it must be lovely on a sunny evening as the patio area beside the canal is lovely (with shade available if required). We opted for the four course menu including a marvellous array of regional cheese at 28 euros. Very good value given quality of produce. We wanted an overnight stay not far from Guedelon Mediaeval Castle (about 15 km). We were not disappointed. Room (Comfort Room) very clean and well facilitated; very grateful for air conditioning on such a hot day. Small balcony overlooking canal was a bonus. Luxury shower and separate WC. WIFI worked well. Charming host/owner who spoke good English and was abe to provide our Guedelon tickets (no extra charge). We opted to eat dinner, choosing a four-course menu at 28 euros p.p.
