The staff here are incredibly friendly, and the location is perfect in the Chilterns. Rooms: 5 stars, Service: 5 stars, Location: 5 stars.

Might have been bad luck, but it’s a bit run down, many food items were not available, no eggs in the morning, rooms a bit old, though comfy beds. Staff made an honest effort, but not much they could do. Rooms: 2 Service: 3 Location: 2 Hotel highlights: Quiet

My husband and I went out with my Grandma for a nice pub meal on Saturday evening, and we were completely blown away! The food was absolutely wonderful and they were more than accommodating with my Grandmas' gluten free intolerance. The staff made us feel incredibly welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The place is absolutely charming, and the staff is very friendly. Everything was fantastic! Our room was immaculate, and the views from it were breathtaking. It was very convenient to have an iron, ironing board, and hairdryer available in our room, especially since we were there for a wedding in the countryside. While the food was decent, it was really the rooms and the service that stood out. A lovely bonus was watching all the local dogs and their owners come together at the pub in the evening! I left the restaurant with a bad impression. I went with a group for a buffet meal that was supposed to cost £30 per person. Upon arrival, I ordered a pint of beer and offered to pay for two meals, but was shocked to be charged £73.69, which included an £8.19 service charge applied to both the meal and the beer. Since I hadn’t arranged this payment, I assumed it was the agreed price, unaware that the service charge was optional. The staff did not seem welcoming, and my repeated requests to adjust the heating were met with indifference, as if customers were expected to feel lucky to be there. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, and I won’t be returning.

We arrived on the Friday for a weekend stay as we were going to a festival nearby. The Friday night/Saturday staff were friendly and helpful, but all weekend the staff had a feel of this is just a weekend job, we 'd rather be elsewhere but still being friendly and attentive when required. Then it went wrong the sink in our en suite was blocked, clearly not a new issue judging by the disgusting gunk brought up the plughole when we tried to clean out teeth on the Friday night. We reported it sat morning and we were quickly moved to a bigger suite. This was nice but, for a new building, the bathroom had a strange musty smell.
