"We used to be frequent visitors to this charming rural area of Sussex and were familiar with the "old" Curlew. However, the new owners have transformed it into a pub with great food and a relaxed atmosphere. The menu, although short, displays a clear emphasis on quality and the dishes certainly deliver. Our group of six enjoyed a variety of dishes including cod with chips (incredibly fresh), duck, the house burger, and barbecued beer and chilli mussels, all of which were delicious and quickly devoured. Despite feeling quite full, we managed to make room for three desserts, all of which were faultless. The wine list is interesting and reasonably priced, and the service is both enthusiastic and friendly. We will definitely be returning to the Curlew!"

"FINE DINING EXPERIENCE ! Had a beautiful meal at the Prince of Kent for the first time after having a disappointing meal at another Indian restaurant. Let’s just say we were beyond pleased with our experience here definitely worth the 20 minute drive! We rang late notice but still managed to get a table for around 7:40 on a Saturday night. It was reasonably busy so I’d recommend booking. We were greeted and sat in a lovely spacious clean booth with fresh flowers. We were served by lovely waiters who went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed whether that be drinks, napkins etc. Popadoms were lovely and crispy and arrived within 10 minutes, dips and salad fresh. Our mains came, me and my partner were pleasantly surprised. Portion sizes were amazing and we both admitted that it was best chicken in a curry we had ever had, honestly so juicy and tender. I had a Butter Chicken which was spot on and he had a Tikka Masala (both beautiful). Mushroom rice was extremely generous and Sag Paneer was spot on too. Naan bread was very nice very light and fluffy so we both left feeling full but not bloated! The waiter who delivered our mains double checked everything with us to make sure we had everything we needed. Best meal out we had in a long while, everything was delightful, came piping hot and well presented! Thank you to your team for your service, you definitely have a loyal customer in us, our whole evening was perfect. We will bring our whole family next time as we know they’ll love it as much as we did. Would recommend to anyone as everyone went above and beyond! Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetable dishes, sides were generous too! Dietary restrictions: The menu is self explanatory and helps mark what is safe for people with dietary requirements, staff asked if anyone had allergies Parking: Park on street or Waitrose, pop in and maybe buy a drink or something small (2 hours free) Do not park in Royal Oak or you will receive a fine."

"After recently relocating to the area, some friends (both local and non-local) recommended this pub to us, and it quickly became our favorite spot. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the staff is friendly and attentive, the food is delicious with a good variety of options, the decor has a traditional British pub vibe, and they even welcome dogs. I highly recommend this pub to anyone looking for a great dining experience. The average price per person ranges from £10 to £20."

"Very pleasant pub atmosphere. We had starter of pear and walnuts goats cheese delicious although had to order bread separately to go with. Mains l had rump steak hubby had sirloin disappointing my steak was over cooked and fair bit of gristle hubby sirloin very average came with cash carry chips and little salad leaves on side. Desserts l had raspberries in pastry case unfortunately it was bought in from cash carry and quite inedible although filling was ok. Shame chef wasn’t able to make or use fresh pastry or make fresh chips. We x 3 glasses of wine and price £120 didn’t feel value for money . Will not be returning"

"I have visited this restaurant several times and there always seems to be a consistent stream of customers. It was quite busy on the bank holiday, but I was able to sit inside and the noise level was bearable. The staff at the bar were very polite when taking our orders, and our drinks and food arrived promptly. The food was delicious, we ordered a Bodiam sausage sandwich, fish finger sandwich, and a sausage roll. I will definitely be returning in the near future."
