"Disappointing rude and thoughtless treatment by owner of this pub in the charming village of Finchingfield really cast a bad light in an otherwise lovely place. I came in with Sarah this morning to spend about an hour and a half while she saw patients at a nearby home. After spending £22 on a lunch for one the owner promptly came over and asked me to give up my table and move to the bar. I said that wasn't ok and I hadn't even digested my food. Sarah Williams was also on the way back (she's 23 weeks pregnant) to have a bite to eat as well. But this inn keeper wasn't concerned with anything but turning his tables as quickly as possible. I had an exchange with him as he was insulting and clearly not an individual with any business acumen. I was very insulted and disappoint in his treatment of me and I quickly paid my bill and waited for my wife outside instead of in his pub. Really what is wrong with people!? I strongly urge everyone to avoid this guys business."

Wonderful little inn with a cozy fireplace. We first visited here in the early '60s (we lived next door), and again in 2012. Excellent food and service, genuine English countryside atmosphere.

This pub offers a fantastic view overlooking the green and pond. It's a perfect spot for a relaxing evening in spring or summer, especially after taking a stroll around the village and checking out the windmill. The food is delicious and the service is very friendly.

Can't believe there were no reviews for this great pub. It's got a view of one of the best villages in Essex , right on the village green by the duck pond. Was there last weekend sitting out the front watching vintage cars and bikes out for a run in the sunshine . Every sort of transport passes through here . Superbikes ,supercars , and owners clubs out for a run. You never know what's coming past .good food beer and service . Top pub.

My friends and I came to this cozy pub for dinner on a warm, sunny evening in August. The service was friendly and efficient. I ordered a Bulmers red berries and lime cider along with pan-seared trout topped with a pistachio bacon crust, seasonal vegetables, and roasted potatoes. The cider was refreshing, with the perfect balance of sweetness from the berries and a hint of lime. The trout was cooked perfectly and paired well with sweet roasted cherry tomatoes and crispy baby bok choy. It was a satisfying meal, and I definitely plan to return in the future!

Situated in the picturesque village of Finchingfield, Essex, this charming pub has a storybook-like setting. However, we experienced a lengthy wait of over an hour for our food orders. The owner explained that it was due to everyone arriving at once, which was beyond his control. While I was enjoying myself, some in my group found the wait to be too long. If you're on a tight schedule, this may not be the best place for a meal. However, the atmosphere is lovely, and enjoying a pint before moving on may be the best option. I tried the BLT, which was decent, though not the best I've had. I would consider returning to try something else. Despite the wait, once we received our meals, everyone se...

"Last weekend my wife’s family held a gathering of sorts at the Mulberry Tree in Braintree. The food was possibly the worst I’ve eaten and was as far from being reasonably priced as it could be. All the little locals are now owned by chains and we pay our hard earned for frozen nuggets and chips sat with groupon vouchered benefit family’s glued to their phones whilst their half bred kids run riot and then there’s the staff of whom we are an inconvenience to. So when my sister in law and her boyfriend of whose family supply most of the genuine restaurants in the Essex and Suffolk areas with their meat instead of brake bros, they happened to mention the Vine in Great Bardfield. With my 10 year old son racing locally and friends attending to spectate we soon got talking about lunch? We happened to mention the Vine and once the track action finished we were quickly making our way to sunny Great Bardfield. The Vine looks like a traditional pub from the front and has parking accessed via the side entrance. There was a large garden with tables and play area for the kids to play. The restaurant itself is small with a quirky feel and the staff not only very welcoming but they can talk by opening and closing their mouths. There is no pre booking (according to the website) and we arrived unannounced as a group of 7 and got seated right away. The menus were clean and the food has different names so you can read it and not opt for the usual default setting so many of us so often do. We opted for Disco Brisket and The classic burgers, fries on the side with additional onion rings, mozzarella bites and a double portion of chicken wings. The kids had burgers too and this is where things for me set the standard as my youngest of whom is on occasions fussy with his food ate the whole thing before insisting it was the best burger he had eaten. I have to agree as do our friends. The portions were large enough to request a box for the chicken wings to take home, of which when asked the staff were obliging. We had an extremely nice meal with drinks and the bill was a little over £100. The Vine not only exceeded my expectations but has set the bar for other restaurants to catch up or end up as yet another curry house. Cannot wait to return for what will be an adult only evening and my only negative comment was not trying the desserts. The nearest ice cream to us is a drive to Thurrock or to Snugburys in Cheshire so a milk shake or rare flavoured ice cream would be 10/10"
