"Came here for a late lunch and it was great! Lovely selection of local seafood on the menu and friendly and attentive service. The crab sandwich had generous amounts of crab in a local Turkish bread, grilled mackerel with a punchy horseradish cream, and the chowder which was delicious and perfect to warm us up on a rainy day. Only docking a star because the Korean fried haddock special wasn't very crispy...maybe it was meant to be like that, but when I think of Korean fried anything I imagine super crispy! No room for dessert but the coffees were lovely to finish"

"I came here with my meat eating family, despite their initial reservations that I would have chosen some hippy vegan place and all were pleasantly surprised. Formerly known as The Polish Café, there are still a number of Polish specialties particularly the stuffed cabbage leaves which went down very well. The staff were absolutely delightful, especially the woman (whose name I did not get) who was wonderful, really polite and friendly. It 's obviously been recently renovated and the artwork and furnishings really make it a beautiful place. I would definitely recommend a visit. My only issue was that, despite offering vegan starters and mains, there were no vegan deserts but they do provide soya milk for a coffee/tea."

"Bruce’s tasting menu was the highlight of our 10 day gastronomic tour of Devon and Cornwall. For someone who claims never to have visited Japan, his kaiseki menu would do even Endo proud. His interpretation of chawanmushi was sublime with a fresh and crunchy shitake and caviar. Superb fish fresh from the quay and the locally grown vegetables were delicious. Even the shiso tasted like shiso tastes in Japan, a remarkable achievement given that shiso in UK is generally bland and disappointing. Three things to bear in mind: 1) try to show up at 6.45pm to get the best tables. Dinner starts promptly at 7pm. 2) don’t expect any meat. 3) Bruce leaves the kitchen between every other course to describe the following two courses. His account of where he sourced the ingredients and how he prepared them is truly fascinating. Finally, a meal at the Shore is not only a true feast for all your senses but also incredibly good value. "It could have been a completely different experience. While there's a Wetherspoons just around the corner, we stumbled upon this gem, and the sun seemed to shine on us that day. Mermaid Alley is a delightful restaurant, located just a 10-minute walk from the harbor in Penzance. The menu beautifully blends Southern comfort food with influences from South America, the Caribbean, and intriguing Asian flavors, resulting in stunning dishes. Everything was so tasty that we were tempted to lick our plates clean—please consider adding the apple/shoe wing to the main menu! The warm atmosphere is enhanced by the attentive staff, who keep delivering delicious cocktails. We enjoyed our meal so much that we immediately booked another table for later in the week."

"Just let down a bit by floor staff. Decent quality food with slightly above average price, (no complaints but staff were questionable minor, fixable gripes: Young female waiter wearing socks and sliders? Could have been a forgotten uniform but just looked unprofessional in situ. Saw another female waiter marrying two bottles of rosé wine before taking a new ‘full’ bottle of wine to a customer. Don’t think it’s illegal in the Uk to do this but unhygienic and poor form. They took it to an upstairs table after doing in on the ground floor so diners obviously non the wiser. Young male staff member checked in on us 6 times (counted over two courses, not including ordering or bringing food (how are the drinks x1, how is the food etc x2 per course to the point it was disruptive/ annoying. I get they’re told to be attentive, but just chill buddy"
