"We tried this refurbished pub for Sunday lunch yesterday , 5th Nov as it is near my son’s house but he has never visited. There were 4 adults and 3 children and the dining time was 3 pm. This was booked online but in arrival someone else was sitting at the table and had to be asked to move. Pros: Staff were lovely, nothing was too much trouble. The pub has been refurbished to a high standard with complimenting colours. The toilets were immaculate Cons: Long wait for food, circa 45 mins. It was very busy yesterday with large groups but as we had 3 children aged 7 and 9 we felt this was a little too long to wait as we were all very hungry. Although on the App we could order beef roast, we were told this was no longer available at the counter so ordered 4 Turkey dinners, childrens roast chicken, sausage and mash and an ultimate burger. The food itself was a bit of a let down after waiting so long. Turkey was nice. Parsnips were undercooked and stringy. Yorkshire was nice, potatoes ok, carrots nice. I did not try the children’s dinners but my son said they were ok. The little pots of gravy were too small really for a roast dinner and we ended up having to ask for more gravy but this did not arrive and I had to go up again to ask. We did not order dessert as we had to leave which was a shame. My sister-in-law said she wouldn’t be returning as no roast beef left and she was underwhelmed by the rest of the roast dinner. The bill was very reasonable as per a chain pub restaurant but I do feel that if the food standard could be raised to reflect the impression given on arriving at the pub we would change our minds and we would certainly pay more for better food."

Me and my family come here every week. All the staff are fantastic, the one who sticks out is Charlie, she always has a smile on her face, funny and caring.

The pub is nice and clean lovely staff dog friendly would be nice if they did a little more for children but that’s a small point for the company as Hornchurch has no child friendly pubs

How disappointing the food and the service….waited 40 min for food to be served to see obvious signs that it had been sitting under hot plate….no apologies just excuses of “hit and miss” in hospitality from the server Speisekarte ansehen

Christmas Dinner booked with family friends we had a lovely time. The staff were friendly, food was filling and catered to vegan/dairy free alternatives. The pub had a well furbished yet cosy look feel. Would recommend :

My family took me and my husband here after a family meal to celebrate my birthday. They had pre booked a table for us and when we got there the table was waiting for us, we just had to grab a couple more chairs. The pub looks like it has been done up since the last time we see there. It wax not too packed, plenty of space in there. The toilets were very clean, it has a car park. We never ate there so I don’t know what the food is like. Speisekarte ansehen

Feeling so let down today by our local restaurant ,which I had booked for my husband 's birthday today and which 'couldn 't accommodate ' us after all when we arrived there, we got in the car and came to 'The Optimist '. It was so different in there, after I asked the gentleman who was behind the bar ,if we could possibly have a meal there. He showed us to a table and explained that it would be needed a little later in the day. What good practice to be able to 'slot in ' customers in this way between known bookings. I had the most delicious Roast Beef with all the usual trimmings and my husband had the 'Posh fish and chips '. Followed by , naughty but nice, desserts and coffee, the day ended...

Seriously Ember Inns, you cannot be serving food like that to the public! Went here for our Christmas dinner and it completely ruined our day! Having waited an hour for our food even though I had repeatedly asked the staff what was happening, when we did eventually receive our food we couldn’t eat it! It had been taken out of a packet, not cooked and was completely inedible! In all honesty The worst meal I have ever been served. A discrace to the restaurant industry! I could see that most people in the restaurant were also complaining and most people were not eating their meals. If I had eaten mine I think I would have been ill. I certainly would never consider going back! However I must poi...

"this is a great place Thai restaurant that we unfortunately do not visit as much as we want. it has been an established part of my hometown hornchurch and serves fantastic Thai cuisine for many years. I am now glad to say that on Saturday we had a opportunity to visit and again eating was full of all the aromes they expect from this style of food. on Saturday we have walked on our fifteen minute walk to the heart of the city where they find the restaurant. we entered and received the usual friendly reception before we took our places. While we looked at the menu, we ordered a beautiful bottle of maison bergon 2020 a delightful French sauvignon blanc, full of citrus fruits, apple and lemongras aromas. unusual for us we decided to choose a set menu. we chose the Bangkok menu with an additional Thai salad. this started with the prawn crackers and sweet chili diving sauce. the starter was a plate consisting of chickensatai, spring rolls, huh on toast, chicken strips prawn tempura, which was all fresh, hot and full of fabulous thai aromen. we followed this with our additional plate of the yum nuar a fabulous spicy salate of cut grilled sirloin, swirl, early swirl, coriander, lemon juice, fish sauce chili flock, which I would definitely recommend. we now went to the main courses that would be with ingwer in black bohnensoße, chicken green curry, sweet with egg noodles. thai jasmin reis. the aromen and choir again complicated themselves perfectly and made every dish absolutely delicious. to finish they can have either tee, coffee or a few pots vanilla ice cream. this brought our charming Thai lunch to the end, and we hope to do again in the near future. I would highly recommend a visit here as eating is fantastic and there is always a good friendly service. also it is a long established part of our community and should be supported. many thanks for our fabulous lunch and look forward to seeing them all again soon."

"Very disappointed with food quality and service. We had booked a table for 13 people, 3 of which which were children. On arrival we were greeted by a lovely waitress who took us to our seats, but then proceeded to ask us to pass the plates and cutlery down the table to where the other guests were yet to arrive. So we set half of the tables, which is bizarre to ask a customer, but she was a lovely girl so it wasn 't a big deal at the time...until things went really downhill. We ordered 3 x £40 mixed grill platters which are meant to serve 3 4 people and asked for rice only, no bulgar. All 3 platters were brought with half rice and half bulgar; we asked the waitress to correct this, and she was apologetic and came back with a bowl of half rice and half bulgar again, we asked for rice on, so she went back and got a bowl of rice. Bearing in mind each platter is meant to serve 3 4 people, I struggled to serve the children an adequate portion they had 2 tablespoons of rice each; that 's how much rice was served with the large grill. My 10 year old niece then pulled out a long strand of hair from the kofteh she was about to eat; absolutely disgusting! Unsurprisingly, the cook wasn 't wearing a hair net, which I presume is standard?? I tried to be tactile and not draw too much attention to the situation to other eating customers, so quietly pulled the waitress aside and gave her the hair; she apologised and had another kofteh cooked (actually felt sorry for the girl, she looked mortified). The crunch came when we went to eat the chicken wings and baby chicken so many were raw pink and red raw meat! We told the waitress and she was insistent that it was cooked, but took it back believe me we have cooked chicken before and know what raw meat is. We were shocked when the same chicken was re cooked and then served back to us bear in mind, by this point the chicken had already cooled down from the first time it was cooked, centre was raw, and then re cooked and served again! There was no way we would 've touched it; also keep in mind that some of the chicken had come off different guests ' plates and were bitten into how were we supposed to know which piece was who 's?? So bizarre, I 've never had this happen, even in the cheapest small café. By this time to be honest we were off our food. The meat wasn 't great really; some was ok; the chicken shish was ok, the lamb chops were also ok; the chicken kofteh had no flavour; the kofteh was very greasy; the rice was wet. On a high note, the lahumajun was lovely and so were the dips and bread. When it came to the bill, we made it clear the chicken should be taken off, as none was eaten by anyone. When the waitress came and handed the bill over and was asked if the chicken was removed from the bill, her response was I 'm just a worker who else are we supposed to ask then? Why the attitude?! We had the right to complain after being served raw meat! The cook/owner then came over, leaned over me, with a plate of chicken hovering above my head and my face in his armpit, and started to argue with another guest that we didn 't ask for the chicken to be well done; no spacial awareness or respect for one 's space whatsoever. I didn 't realise we had to request for our chicken not to be raw; absolutely ridiculous. He knocked off £15 and for a £170 bill and the awful experience, I think that was insulting. He then knocked off a bit more, and we just accepted as wanted to get out of there. The same waitress came back and cleared the table, slamming the plates onto the trays no manners whatsoever and clearly showing she 's pissed off. Such a shame; all other guests witnessed this while they were trying to eat; could 've been totally avoidable. Why risk your reputation? I 've never had to ever make a complaint like this before, let alone write such a review. If you choose to eat here, check your meat is thoroughly cooked, or you 'll be poisoned!"
