"Good produce brunch let down by very poor service. Waitress was abrupt regarding my request for my poached eggs to be neither too runny nor too firm. She puckered her lips and sighed, could not understand why as it seemed reasonable to want my eggs as I like them. Waited a long time for food to arrive though it was not very busy, this was not a problem. Though I was disapponted that my request for lemon rather than milk was overlooked despite the order being checked. After waiting once again I went to the bar to collect the lemon myself. When it arrived another waitress picked up a slice by hand and put it on a saucer. Really astonished that she had not been taught to use tongs and quite revolted by her long finger nails handling it The smoked salmon was good quality and there was plenty of it. The eggs were obviously proper free range but were rock hard after my request. No hollandaise sauce was available as I was told this was the head chef's decision. Sounded bizarre as even Weatherspoons provide it with smoked salmon and poached eggs. What a pity to ruin good quality produce this way"

We had three lovely meals here. The fish was really fresh with a very light batter and plenty of chunky chips. The beef burger very good . The vegan Christmas filo parcel and veg was very tasty and beautifully presented…an excellent vegan choice Alongside this all the staff are very smiley and helpful. It gets busy so better to book a table

Lovely staff , food was good , we had to wait a short while for the food but that was understandable as it was a Saturday lunchtime and very busy . Best chips that I’ve had in a long time . Beautiful original art work on the walls . Only down side was the overbearingly large photograph of horses and hounds , as hunting is now illegal I don’t think it’s appropriate or in good taste . Apart from that it was great

Met up with a couple of friends for lunch. From looking at other peoples plates I was really looking forward to trying the food, but, it was really disappointing. My meal was pigs in blankets on ciabatta with a small bowl of Burts crisps, for £16 it was very overpriced and didn’t come out hot. My wife had a Turkey Roast and again it wasn’t hot and the gravy served on the side was actually cold. On the plus side the latte I had was very nice.

Ordered tea and a fruit scone. The scone arrived but had probably been dead for two days. They are not supposed to be reduced to a crumbled mess when cutting in half. Difficult to spread butter on a pile of crumbs. Seated next to a door that opened out to the outside. Every time people decided to leaved using that door, a gale swept in and froze me to the spot. Why have a table next to a door that opens to the exterior when it's not the main entrance. It should locked. This is not a cheap place when not comes to the cost. Poor.

Had a lovely meal at Powderham Farm Shop Bistro..bit confusing as all of the tables were reserved, but they managed to fit us in by the very drafty double doors, so everytime people went in or out the cold air came in. I would have given this place a lot higher score but their ladies toilets were really bad..they smelt of urine, the floors were dirty and the pipes behind the toilet looked horrid, goodness knows what was on them.....they need a good clean...the radiator in the toilet was all rusty...you would expect better than this at Powderham Castle...the ladies toliets need a re vamp desperately.

I cannot believe the difference in just a few weeks. We used to be regular customers until a couple of years ago, when the place was changed around, and the old staff disappeared. We've had a couple of breakfasts over the past couple of months and the last one, was certainly an improvement. We went for lunch today and it was perfect. The staff were excellent as was the food. Paying at the counter also helps as do the lots of other minor differences. Certainly we will be going back a lot more often now. We did also visit the shop and that has dramatically changed for the better. Well done the new owners.

Not as good as it once was. I have visited this bistro on a number of occasions over 5-6 -years, usually with friends and had always found the food and service to be excellent. Apparently it has recently been taken over and this was my/our first visit since then. I'm sorry to say we were disappointed. Firstly, there is now no initial table visit to take orders and one has to order from a menu sheet and order and pre-pay at the counter. Retrograde. We both ordered the Farmer's breakfast. It looked very much like the Baker beans had been microwaved on the plate and the sausage tasted dry and overcooked, yet was not even browned. Retrograde. The mushrooms weren't great and the entire breakfasts...

Have used this restaurant for many years and have never been disappointed even though there have been staffing issues over the years with long delays etc,but have always been well treated and some of the waiting staff know us as we always tip and thank them for a good meal. However saturday 6th january was different, was very quiet and had someone on the till we had not seen before,my wife went up to order as per norm and ordered 2 full breakfasts and drinks but was told we were too late by 8 minutes,we explained there had been an accident on the maldon hill and we were delayed but she was having none of it. What we struggle with is that you serve a bacon, sausage or egg bap so what trouble is...
