"I ordered the lamb shank with Sunday roast, and unfortunately, it wasn't impressive—it tasted like something you'd get from a supermarket's frozen section. There wasn't enough gravy, and the plates were cold. On a positive note, the staff were very friendly. However, both of the desserts I tried came out unheated, which made it clear that they weren't made in-house. As for the cost, it was around £20–30 per person. I would rate the food a 4, the service a 4, and the atmosphere a 4."

"What a lovely place this is.Situated in a wonderful location in the Forest of Dean. Very homely welcome and atmosphere, great staff and the food is amazing and at a reasonable price. We called in for lunch having visited the evening before and were not disappointed. Taste, quality and service all first class! "This restaurant is a lovely venue for lunch, dinner, weddings, and birthday celebrations. They offer an excellent buffet, making it a great choice for hosting parties or special events. The food is consistently delicious and reasonably priced. There are plenty of parking spaces available, and the surrounding area has open spaces that are perfect for young people in the city."

"We visited the Dog and Muffler 3 times during a week's stay at a local campsite. We received a recommendation from the workers at the campsite. The manager (we didn't get his name) bent over backwards to accommodate our son's dietary requirements. Nothing was too much. We had an evening meal on our first night and it was all lovely. We returned with more family members (7 of us) for a Sunday lunch and it was fantastic. I had the lamb and I'd recommend it for anyone. Our third visit was just after the kitchen had closed but they still rustled up some of the starters for us. You won't wander past the Dog and Muffler, it takes a bit of finding but it's food, service, cleanliness and decor are a large step above an ordinary pub. Thank you Mike, Saara, Aneiran and Vader"

"We visited this pub as part of our day out on the Wye. I was greeted by a really friendly young man behind the bar however that was where the good hospitality ended! We sat outside and would have loved to have ordered some food but we only had a short amount of time there. We ordered our drinks and sat outside. The landlady was extremely rude and hostile, she shouted …. yes literally shouted at us for taking a bite out of our packed sandwich. In hindsight perhaps we should have waited but we had just spent £10 on 2 drinks! She could have come over and kindly spoke to us but instead shouting at us in front of all the other customers Manners cost nothing! We watched her take a stick delivery and it is clear that she has little customer service and her very hostile attitude is “ My pub is busy and I don’t need to try and be warm and welcoming!” Shame as we won’t visit again."
