Very upmarket feel, room was great food was great, service was great and the price was less than most on Orkney, I’ll definitely stay here again. Rooms: Finished to a very high standard, very clean, great shower. Only negative thing was a noisy extractor fan in shower room. Food drinks: A good selection on the menu, but also happy to make adjustments to suit your needs. I had a pan fried fish with potato and peas instead of a battered or breaded oneno problem, and done perfectly. Noteworthy details: Close to the Pentland Ferry. The Hotel is finished to a very high standard. The staff all seemed friendly and relaxed. Hotel highlights: Luxury, Great value

The Sands Hotel is located in southern Orkney, about 10 minutes by car from St Margaret’s Hope where the Pentland ferries arrive. It’s a rather quiet area, your on,y dinner option in walking distance is the on-site restaurant (which offers very good pub food at a reasonable price). Our room on the 1st floor was simple but well-kept with a newly renovated en-suite bathroom. Breakfast was served in the restaurant and while rather basic (think packed cereals and mini containers of jam and marmalade), hot breakfast could be ordered the night before and was freshly cooked.
